Dried moss
As an experiment, I decided to use some of the cut grass and moss from my lawn that I had previously collected to see what sort of textures I could make from it. I was hoping for some sort of moss blanket that I would then be able to stitch into to make a natural kind of fabric. I first dried the grass in my oven on a low heat for about 30 mins, and then I used a 50:50 mixture of PVA glue and hot water to make a glue solution which I then covered all of the cut grass and moss with. I made sure every inch was covered so that it made a sticky lump which I would then be able to mould. I needed as much glue as possible because it's the pva that will stiffen and structure the grass. I used quite a large spatula to then squish the grass out and arranged it all into various sized squares. Although they haven't dried yet, I am hoping the 50:50 solution will not be too hard so that I will be able to work into the blankets with stitch and print. If this experiment works successfully then I hope to use this technique on a larger scale to make a sort of naturalistic wall hanging embroidered with stitch and print.
