The Great Story of How My Job Fucked Me Over Again:
In the beginning, in September 2016, our store was populated with management from another location.
All of the new hires at that time, including myself, were told that since our company is so small, we would all be given opportunity to move up if we so desired.
Iāve worked in our warehouse from the very beginning. Almost a year and a half.
When our first VAA (warehouse manager) left, I was excited to interview and train on the position. No. They selected Jodie, who was the first new hire in our store to be promoted, to be VAA, without posting or interviewing at all.
Thatās been a few months now. So now Jodie, as well as another person who was hired on with me, are relocating to a store in Tennessee, leaving management positions open again.
Naturally, I get excited, because Iām a dumbass. At this point, everyone in the store knows I want VAA. Hell, Iām one of two peopleĀ who have been warehouse crew since setup, ergo weāre really the only two qualified.
Today I find out that yet again, they chose someone without posting and interviewing. And itās Charlene, who came from the other store, whoās already the shoes department manager, and whoās also at least in her mid-50s, disabled, and nowhere near completely physically able to handle the VAA responsibilities.Ā
How do I know this? I do all her heavy lifting for her in the back.
However, if sheās moving to VAA, that leaves her department open. So I was talking about that open department with Susan, also warehouse crew.
She confided in me that she was approached to train on shoes.
Iāve been with the company an entire year longer than her.
I ask,Ā āwill you be mad if I say Iām pissed that they approached you before me?ā and she says no and we get to discussing it, and she says,Ā āwell, maybe even though you can obviously handle the physical side of it, theyāre worried about stressing you with the responsibilities because youāre autistic.ā (which is common work knowledge, nbd).
I respond,Ā āYeah, but they know that Iām willing to do a trial period and train with someone for a while to see if I can handle it.ā
She says,Ā āYeah, thatās what theyāre going to do with me.ā
This is the fifth time Iāve been smacked down from other positions. First they denied me the accessories department, then they trained me in the cash office and never put me in there, then the first VAA left and they put Jodie there, they continually deny training me on the register even though we alwaysĀ need cashiers, and now this.
