FULL GROUP OUTCOME
FULL ANIMATED SEQUENCE
Since I rendered the backgrounds separately, I added some effects to them in Premiere, such as making them out of focus as if there was an actual camera focusing on the foreground. I also added some blur onto the foreground of the last shot to hide the texture distortion
Fully Rendered Sequence
I set aside the day to render the scenes of my animation in the previously discussed post. I made a few changes by the suggestions of a tutor to the acting of the character before making it final.
I rendered the animation in stages of foreground action and background action so that I could do some work in post.
Sound Mix
Improved vocal recording. Since I recorded the lines again to improve their quality, they no longer sound randomly cut up
I also added some sound effects, some of which were made by me (the falling sounds of the panel) but the others were sourced from freesounds
https://www.freesound.org/people/humanoide7000/sounds/329028/ - vortex/airportal
https://www.freesound.org/people/denao270/sounds/346373/ - swoosh
Both sounds have a public domain license , but I will be sure to credit them when we compile our sequences together,

Week 9 Evaluation
30th April - 7th May
So far, everything on my side of the project is in good standing. I have finished the animation stage and shall move into rendering, compositing and editing in the next week. I am confident that I will accomplish everything that I need to do for the deadline.
I am a little concerned about whether or not the rest of the group will be finished on time, but I have faith in them to finish their sequences with enough time to edit and finesse.
SEQUENCE PLAYBLASTS
- Improved lighting from previous blog posts
- Added actions at the end of the final shot
- Improved transition from ‘surprised’ to ‘sad’ poses
- Improved camera move out of the production pit
- Better continuity with boxes moving in other shots
Titlecard Looping Animation 4
I held on the walleyed keys and extended the sequence. As a result, he moves into the final resting position a lot smoother.
Titlecard Looping Animation 3
I held the walleyed eye’s positions longer, but I still feel like this could be held a bit more to make it clearer that this is what is happening. I will extend the loop more to accommodate for the hold on the eyes.
Titlecard Looping Animation 2
I have increased the anticipation on the head so it turns the opposite direction before spinning, and overshooting and snapping back into position after spinning. I also added more movement on the face, on the eyes and the mouth.
I think I will do more with the eyes and the mouth to develop the loop more.
Titlecard Looping Animation 1
With the sequences in a good place, I started working on the loop for the titlecard. I wanted to have a spinning head as my animation loop, so I can take full advantage of my rigged face.
I think this could be improved by having more anticipation and overshoot in the head spin, so the animation feels a lot less robotic. I think I will include more bounce to the head as well, as I have done for when the character blinks.
Work in Progress Production
Here is the current work in progress film featuring everyone’s work so far.
Lighting Tests
I did some test renders of the scene to see how they were turning out, as for the most part I have been working off what the playblasts look like. I found that the lighting I had set up was distorting the colours of the set, making the light orange more red and turning the dark blue black.
With the help of a fellow CG person, I tried out different settings for the animation to render out at a satisfying quality. The above screenshots are the gradual process of finding the right settings.

SEQUENCE PROGRESS
Here was what the current sequence looks like at this point in the project.
SUGGESTIONS MADE BY TUTOR
- Smoother camera move on the pan up out of the pit
- Continuity of the character not standing in the right place in the overhead shot
- Work on the posing towards the end so there is a smoother transition between ‘surprised’ and ‘sad’ poses
- Timing of the dropped panel, maybe a fraction of a second later to increase comedy
SHOT 2 - 5
I am happy with how this shot looks now, as you can now see the full diagram in the shot before in zooms in.
SHOT 2 - 4
I splined the animation. I feel like the head is in the way of the diagram at the start of the shot, so I shall move the head’s placement.
I also tweaked the weight painting on the wrist so it looked a lot more comfortable.
SHOT 2 - 3
Now with the improved panel animation. The next step will be to spline the rest of the animation as it is still in its stepped state.
