Hey. Wanna hear my crazy Deltarune weird route interpretation/theory of ch5?
I pondered about Noelle being depressed, suicidal, and wanting to go out of the game to escape the daily life. As they feel utterly disconnected with it.
But it didn't truly click on why.. Noelle wants to stop being "Noelle".
But as I thought harder I think..
Noelle is transmasc/non-binary coded.
Before we go any further.. let's agree that Noelle most likely has the same thoughts as well in the normal route.
In the normal route Noelle expresses wanting to leave the town. That they were weak.. (or maybe they weren't strong enough).
We never get the reason why Noelle feels this way, and the weird route's monologue IS Noelle's explanation on why they felt like they want to "leave" in the first place.
It's just that in weird route.. we never give them a reason to stay. Noelle never got Susie's reassurance that they were strong, to even handle all the stress they had been dealing with.
So it's why in the weird route, Noelle wants to escape. Escape from the town.
..Escape from their role of being "the girl" in the prophecy. Or the lover.
Noelle does not want to do Noelle things anymore. So they spent their last days doing the things they wanted.
It's why Noelle wants to change SO badly. In both the normal and weird route, Noelle so desperately want to have agency to a life they felt they had no control over.
A role they never asked to have.
This might sort of explain Noelle's fascination with Susie at first, as Susie breaks down the rigidity of being a "woman". It could be gender envy at first then a crush later on.
(And it's why Kris also likes susie since she is very gender non conforming and don't conform to the rules unlike Ralsei)
Another context is Noelle likes breaking the game and glitches from it's intended route, esp in dragon blazers, (which is from the Lord of the hammer and that's also from the prophecy..)
it changes the story from the intended path it's given. It breaks the game on what it's SUPPOSED to be.
To break the stories prophecy by going to the unintended route.
And when Noelle seeing Kris "changed"?
Noelle remarks that Kris is INTERESTING now.
It's vague but we don't know if Noelle actually understands that Kris and the PLAYER are one and the same or two seperate beings.
Noelle knows that US and Kris are "different", but also don't know US as well.
Noelle definitely knows "someone" is speaking through Kris. Noelle has no other explanation on what happened yesterday. Especially with us reading Noelle's mind.
AND Noelle saying "Kris, with your dead pan mumbly voice.. Kris. You're back!" And Noelle becomes grateful that you tell them that it was all a prank/joke
But .. there is no mention of this change of mindset after you put that thorn ring inside Noelle.
Just like how ERAM mentions that Kris enjoyed ch2 knowing that they can excuse themselves that it wasn't them for doing this.
There are 2 explanations. Either they are groomed to wanting it as a trauma response. Like they want it because it gives them the illusion of control by having power over a powerless situation.
Or.. they had always felt powerless, so this illusion of power makes them feel like they are in control of their destiny-- sort of like how ideating for your death gives you control over the life you have.
Even though that just means, you feel totally out of control. That illusion of agency, that you had a choice of the matter to "die" to "leave" to "fly away" is the thing that gives any agency.
When someone finally gave you that excuse to "do it", then you can do "anything".
Or.. maybe both is the explanation
Also I know ThornRing has the trance effect but.. being in a trance state means a person is not fully self aware-- meaning that it wouldn't have changed Noelle's thoughts and personalitty, it just removed some kind of filter Noelle had been having this entire time. But idk the rings true power in the light world.
I think Noelle also relates to OUR desire to break the game or the prophecy.
Noelle highly likely thought that Kris has the same feelings of dissociation as Noelle (as Kris was seen with the horns when they were young).
And now the undeniable proof that Kris IS a different person underneath being "Kris" it's the proof Noelle needed...
That someone can stop being their own predestined "role" in their society.

This is what Noelle thinks happened:
The glass is the metaphorical layer of dissociation.
Like how Noelle sees life through glass. WE are seeing Kris' life THROUGH A POLARIZED GLASS SCREEN. The monitor.
Noelle thought the horned Kris. The Kris that was supressed, The imagery of the Devil, was the one that was talking to them.
Whatever it is, whoever WE are, we took control and changed Kris. And THAT is what Noelle finds interesting.
Kris stopped being the role of the HERO that they were told to do. (But also still being a cage for the SOUL.)
Kris stopped being Kris and Noelle thought that was by their horned counterpart.
On another note of no one noticing Kris has changed, that no one wanted to acknowledge it, that people just "stay on the path"
Is very reminiscent of how people just stay in their own roles assigned when they were born with into this world.
The narrative of how to be a woman or a man. How to have "love". Like Heteronormativity, Amatonormativity, etc. Get married, 2 kids, and a dog
Unaware of the narrative on where it leads to. The rules that were never questioned.
And the one who breaks this path is always met with challenge.
With Noelle being highly repressed in the weird route. (And in life in general highly likely due to Carol, and Noelle feeling guilty that Carol would 'lose' another daughter if they said anything)
Not being allowed to be someone other than an archetype.
And being forced to hold the Thorn ring. Kris and Noelle being lowkey hetero-fied.
Yeah. They are repressed (because of us). And think the only way to escape this "life" that Noelle certainly knows that it's a "game".
Is to take agency from the prophecy/narrative itself. By removing themselves from the town or .. break the game like they used to in dragon blazers.
Even if it means hurting others.
Even if it means Noelle hurt themselves.
Unlike the normal route where Noelle DID slowly change from the archetype of "Noelle" with Susie supporting them and love them. And Queen listening to them.
In the weird route.. Noelle couldn't take it being just Noelle anymore. And now the only way to do that is to "Fly away from this stupid town". As there is no one else to anchor them down.
This makes sense thematically cause the DR is about changing the prophecy, and Noelle's desire to break the prophecy, the will, their determination.
Also this is not real evidence but look. trans colored bedroom!! -- it's like Kris' in a Ch5 cutscene..
Based on what Flowery said.. Ralsei also likes pink and blue too and Ralsei confirmed it saying "how did you know?" So.. I think the 3 of them are trans too not gonna lie. LOL
I dunno. What do you all think?
I don't think the word trans would be out right said in the game, or if this was intentional tbh, but it would be cool to see transmasc and more enby rep, if it happens :3
