Playing a fun game of trying to guess which map belongs to who for the DLC Emblems. Heroes' Sanctuary must be Veronica, because of course. Underground passage I think should be Camilla, I remember a map like that from Birthright. Based on the bits I know, I think Berserkers' Hollow should be Hector. Then Altar of Destiny is Chrobin? it looks like the premonition/final Validar fight map. But then the lava would have to be Soren? Am I forgetting a lava map in Path of Radiance or what. Hang on. Something's vaguely coming back to me but that might also be the Awakening volcano map. No I'm definitely thinking of the Awakenint map. Why the FUCK is Soren in a volcano. I'm starting this paralogue just to look at the map and see if this helps me at all.
Is there a lava map in Radiant Dawn I'm forgetting. This looks vaguely what I was visualizing but it also looks vaguely the shape of the Awakening one so I genuinely do not know. If anyone knows more than me please help me.
hikes are very good yes but a deluxe hike is when you are accompanied by a freak with niche nature knowledge. they’re like omg stop there’s a horned valerian varmint beetle here and then you both get to crouch down and look at a bug like :)
I'm thinking about it again and it is so funny that Crimson Flower has no older advisor figure to help us. No one like Judith or Rodrigue, or Seteth, or Gilbert. We can recruit Shamir and Alois and Manuela and Hanneman, but none of those guys are helping steer the ship. We will cut our own path to the future, guided exclusively by the plans and tactics of a couple of 20-somethings. We have Edelgard and Byleth and Hubert as the only people fully in-the-know about what's really going on. We have Lord Arundel, but he's like an anti-advisor in that we don't want to do what he recommends. He hates us and we hate him and he is trying to make us stay in line by blowing up cities as a threat and we are are actively counting down the days until we can kill him. And we have Jeritza, but like. He's Jeritza. He's not helping.
I’m shocked I haven’t talked about Blood on the Clocktower yet. It’s been over half a year since I started playing and I love it.
I’m also the most chaotic little shit while playing it.
examples:
• Claimed goblin everyday as Leviathan and self nominated everyday (somehow won)
• Outed myself as magician immediately to put suspicion on several players for being evil.
• After promising someone I wouldn’t die as Farmer, I immediately nominated myself the moment someone spun a wheel on who to kill and I was the one they landed on, which led to the Judge killing me. (Still don’t know why I did that)
• Claimed Goblin in order to hint towards mutant, was told that I was probably gonna die for that, which led to me publicly claiming Mutant and somehow not dying afterwards cuz no one believed me. Then Ravenkeeper died that night and chose me so they learned I was mutant. (This was a script I made btw)
• As evil deviant I said I was evil in the chat (I play over discord btw) but no one noticed. Eventually I wanted to leave (to go to bed) but wanted to go out with a bang. So I self nominated and told everyone to scroll up to my message. I was going to be voted but the storyteller decided it was too funny so I was protected.
• I was permanently poisoned (or was I drunk?) cult leader and made a pact with an evil player to only form the cult when I was evil. Then that player was being voted and claimed Goblin, and despite me being good I didn’t out him as evil which resulted in us losing.
• My YAG phrase was “cause chaos” and literally no one noticed until I started to say it over and over again.
• I once became Grandmother to the gambler so I told them the wrong role in hopes of killing them before the demon could kill us both.
•Trusted someone who told me I was their marionette despite the fisherman getting a message basically saying “SHIMO IS BEING MANIPULATED”
When my cousin's then-boyfriend texted her that he would be coming home late because he would be stopping by the department store on his way home from work, she, knowing full well that he hates going there, never buys clothes there if he can help it, and generally asks to stay home whenever she goes, knew instantly that he could only be going for one reason: To buy an engagement ring.
Practical-minded, she responded: Don't forget the coupon we got in the mail, there's a discount on rings. Ever helpful, she sent him a photo of the coupon code.
He left her on read. When he came home, he was cagey and grumbling, and when she was like "Did you remember to use the coupon" he was like, "I don't know what you're talking about, why would I be buying jewelry, etc.," not meeting her eye.
Few weeks later he took her out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, spent the entire night grumbling under his breath and shaking his head in disbelief, before going "아이씨" and pulling the ring box out of his pocket and slamming it down on the table. "How the hell did you know," he said, begrudgingly impressed.
She was like, "It's really not hard" and then was like "Did you use the coupon" and he was like "Yes I used the coupon"
Hello! I came across a post you did a while back analysing how Tatsuya and Katsuya speak to each other. I was wondering, are there any differences in how they interact in IS and EP? I know Katsuya isn't hugely in IS (And we don't see Tatsuya's dialogue), but I do remember Katsuya being slightly harsher in IS in my memory (possibly because in the IS timeline, Tatsuya was attacked as a child, maybe influencing Katsuya's protectiveness?). Thanks for your time, and no worries if you can't answer
Hi Anon!
I'm happy to answer anything regarding Katsuya so no worries!
I'll only use his introduction scene in Innocent Sin for this because I'm p busy ;;; I can't play around my save files to look for dialogues like I used to <//3
To answer your question, yes! There is a big difference in how they interact in Innocent Sin. Personally, I think Katsuya is harsher in Japanese. I can't really talk for Tatsuya since he doesn't have dialogue and when he does, it's the player's choice.
The things I talked about in my original post about Katsuya's word choice still applies, particularly his pronouns and how emotionally he talks to Tatsuya.
BEFORE YOU READ THIS PLEASE CHECK OUT PART 1
This is what Katsuya says when we meet him in game. The meaning of the sentence doesn't change but the nuance for how Katsuya chooses his words in Japanese is very particular.
First dialogue.
English: Tatsuya... Don't see you here often. But you probably didn't come to visit me.
Japanese: Tatsuya... It's rare for you to come here. But it's not as though you've come to see me, your elder brother.
The first line is very interesting to me. First, in Japanese, Katsuya goes "珍しいな (that's rare)", it's very observational and calm. It's subtle but you already catch that there's distance between them.
Then it further hammers that feeling by Katsuya using "兄の僕 (me, your elder brother)" to refer to himself. As if he wants to point out that Tatsuya is normally disrespectful and he doesn't really give Katsuya, the person of authority between the two of them, any time of the day.
He also uses "わけでもあるまい(It's not as though)" which has this self deprecating vibe, as if to say "OBVIOUSLY, you didn't come here for me."
He doesn't just directly say that Tatsuya doesn't visit him. He specifically points out that it's impossible that Tatsuya went out to see his elder brother.
English: What's up? Did something happen?
Japanese: What brings you here in the police station? Did something happen?
In Japanese, Katsuya is direct. Straight to the point. Professional. He understands that Tatsuya needs him for his profession as a police officer and acts accordingly.
But then he follows with,
"何があったのか? (did something happen)" Which shows that he's worried and attentive still.
Second dialogue.
English: Hmph... You never change. How much longer are you going to keep worrying our parents?
Japanese: Hmph... Still the same... Honestly, that's exactly the kind of guy you are. How long are you going to keep making [our] parents worry?
There's a very obvious change here. Katsuya judges Tatsuya's character in Japanese. He uses "お前というヤツは (Someone like you)", I translated it according to nuance in the sentences though. I'll break down the word choices.
お前 - you. Extremely blunt and familiar. Shows familiarity but as I mentioned in my original post, Katsuya doesn't normally use this.
ヤツ - there are a lot of translations for this. Some people just use guy, some people say it's bastard. Personally, either way, I think it's a rude way to refer to a person. Seeing the context here, we can tell that it's used to show how Katsuya looks down on Tatsuya's character.
Then we get to the last line which is Katsuya pointing out how worried their parents are.
But with the background context we have in the Japanese, it's not a matter of question anymore but a rough way of saying "How long are you going to keep doing this to [our] parents?"
Notice how I've been putting brackets in "our". Japanese doesn't require the usage of subjects or pronouns so the "our" is implied. Another interesting take on this is to say that Katsuya may not be using "our" but saying "your" as an extra blunt way to attack Tatsuya's character.
As if to say, "They're your parents too remember? Show some respect."
Third dialogue.
English: I'm not asking you to understand me or our father's position. But you have nothing to gain by running away.
Japanese: At this point, I don't expect you to understand someone like me or someone like father. But if you merely run away, you won't gain anything.
This is extremely loaded. Let's start with how Katsuya refers to himself and their father.
Katsuya says "この僕の事 (kono boku no koto)" to refer to himself. The usage of "kono" here is interesting because it shows that he isn't referring to himself but rather, he is referring to his stance or positionality, particularly from Tatsuya's perspective.
He does the same for their father he says "父の事 (chichi no koto)". That's a very formal way to refer to your father. He's not talking about their father as a familiar relationship but rather the position that their father is in.
There's distance in how he describes the both of them, especially in regards to Tatsuya. This is further pushed by how he says "今更 (at this late stage)" because he understands how distant Tatsuya is now from him and their father.
Then he goes to "理解してもらおうとは思わん (I don't intend to ask for your understanding)" as a sign of resignation. He understands that it's too late and they've gone too far. He knows that he can't do more for Tatsuya. The usage of 思わん is unconventional too, it shows that he's quite stern and old fashioned in how he's saying things.
Then we're hit with the last line, "But if you merely run away, you won't gain anything. " This is Katsuya's final plea to his younger brother. I just want to point out he uses "ぞ(zo)" at the end of the final line. It gives the impression of "hey, I'm telling you this seriously."
Similar disclaimers as the first post. I'm not formally trained in Japanese, I learned by consuming their media! All interpretations are biased to my understanding.
a character who truly, legitimately goes “but why does that matter?” about their feelings when someone who cares about them asks. and the sudden falling of everyone around them’s faces as they realize that this person doesn’t recognize themself as someone who needs or should be taken care of. i want Everyone to hurt. surprise at the idea, worry for them, horror at not having noticed. do you see this person who doesn’t think of themselves as a person?
