Scent Glands
General information
Scent Glands are skin areas on a body that hold and release a smell.
Scent glands vary in location based on secondary gender and age.
Different scent glands vary in sensitivity regarding how well they release and hold scents.
Scent glands release pheromones that impact the behavior of receiving individuals, whether it be to warn them, soothe them, express how the person is feeling, or other.
Alphas
Because Alphas have the biological urge to protect and, before civilized societies, were almost always the leaders and protectors of the pack, their scent glands cover more skin on their body than the other dynamics.
Having more of the Alpha’s scent on the pack kept them safe.
Alphas’ strongest scent glands are typically located on the neck and shoulders and on the inner thighs.
Having more scent glands allows Alphas to scent mark multiple pack mates at one time, satisfying their needs and keeping everyone safe.
The downside of having more scent glands is accidental scenting. Alphas have scent glands on their fingers and on the side of their torso, so brushing against people can cause unintentional scenting.
Alphas often have the most control of their scent out of all the secondary genders.
Omegas
Omegas have the biological predisposition to be the caretakers of the pack, so they developed the most sensitive and reactive scent glands.
On a biological level, Omegas’ scent glands have billions of nerves that relay information to the brain in record time so Omega’s can quickly respond to situations.
Certain scent glands, such as the ones on the Omega’s inner thighs and neck are as sensitive as lips or genitals (depending on where they are in their cycle). Many Omegas use numbing gel to take the edge off.
Omegas are prone to subconsciously respond to situations with their scent glands before they actually process them. For example, if a pup gets injured, an Omega will instantly release calming pheromones before physically reacting.
Scent glands on the breasts and stomach only develop once an Omega becomes pregnant. Scent glands on the stomach fade after pregnancy but the ones of the breasts remain.
Betas
Betas have the weakest scent glands out of all the secondary dynamics, however, this can make them more pleasant to be around and makes them excellent peacekeepers.
Betas’ strongest scent glands are on their neck, inner thighs and behind the ears.
Betas scent glands are generally weaker in terms of releasing pheromones and scent, but they can hold scents for longer periods of time than the other secondary genders.
Betas also have scent glands on their breasts, however, they only appear during pregnancy and fade in under 2 years after the birth of their child/ren. Scent glands on the breasts only appear on female Betas.
Pups
All Pups start out with about the same base scent glands. When they present and age, their scent glands develop to accommodate to their secondary gender.
A pup’s strongest scent gland is on the crown of their head.
Unfortunately, pups’ scent glands do not hold smells for long periods of time, so they need to constantly be scented by their parents and pack mates. Evolutionarily, this ensured that a pack would not leave their pup alone for long durations.
Specific Glands
Inner Thighs
It is only proper for mates and partners to scent mark each other’s inner thighs (for all secondary genders). Scenting inner thighs without consent, especially if the people are not mates, is considered highly inappropriate.
Aggressive scenting and biting to the inner thighs can trigger heats and ruts.
Aggressively scenting (such as licking, biting, etc) pups on their inner thighs is considered as rape.
Crown of Head
The scent gland on the crown of the head is called the Pup’s Crown. It is most sensitive during childhood and becomes the weakest scent gland as the person ages until it holds very little scent or fades completely.
Wrists
Wrists are the most respectful place to scent mark someone. Friends often scent each other on the wrists or after a successful first date, the people in question may scent each other on the wrist.
Rubbing one’s wrist scent glands may be a sign of anxiety or stress.
Wrists are also where pack bites are placed, this includes siblings bites, close relatives, or pack leadership.
Cheeks
Cheek scent glands are very similar to wrists in terms of respect.
Pups often rub cheeks with their friends to scent mark.
Cheek scent glands are usually not very sensitive, but when stimulated can produce minor scent.
Neck
The scent glands on the neck are the most sensitive for all the dynamics.
The neck is where a mating bite is placed. Parents may also bite their pups on the nape of the neck to solidify pack and parental bonds.
Scent marking that occurs on the neck also holds smell longer than on any other gland.
How do you feel about a/b/o where all three are needed to reproduce?
Alpha (male) > Beta (intersex) > Omega (female)
Where the alpha has the sperm, the beta has the eggs, and the omega has the incubator.
Betas could still be male or female (just talking sex characteristics here, not gender) and I see that playing out like your alpha females and omega males.
AM > BM > OW or AM > BW > OW to make a baby, basically.
...Okay, yeah I just want some threesome love. CAN YOU BLAME ME?
Immediate thoughts: WOAH That is so cool and original if you decide to write this, or if you can find someone who has, Please let us know so I can promote their fic on this blog. I think that is such an interesting concept and I agree that poly relationships don't get nearly enough love in the abo genre.
I am also really interested in how that would affect the omegaverse society as a whole, as it would essentially normalize nonmonogamous relationships in the mainstream and bring all sorts of new dynamics to the table.
Old News
So I just discovered something from 2018 that I definitely should have known about concerning a lawsuit between two omegaverse writers. I'll spare you the details because honestly I don't care all that much about some petty plagarism claim thats totally bogus, but what I DO care about is an official court document laying out some of the main rules and characteristics of an omegaverse fiction. You can read the full court document at the link provided here (https://www.virginiadefamationlawyer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/53/2019/11/Amended-Complaint-Quill.pdf), but the highlights I want to share are as follows:
THE OMEGAVERSE LITERARY GENRE
24. The AU omegaverse (or “Alpha/Beta/Omega,” “A/B/O,” or “Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics,” as its slightly broader category is called) is a collection of related literary tropes that have tended to develop and evolve in fanfictions written over the course of many stories by many authors, including anonymous and pseudonymous authors.
25. Frankly, omegaverse stories are not for everyone, although they are broadly popular and sold in major retail outlets. The overarching dynamic is that humans in the AU omegaverse are categorized not only by gender but also by a second dynamic: whether they present as Alphas (dominant, physically large, quick-tempered, natural leader) or Omegas (submissive, delicate, calm, peace maker), with an undetermined number of “humans” being default Betas.
26. Omegaverse stories often involve romantic, sexual, or other pairings between males. However, male and female pairings have existed in the sub-genre for some time and, in particular, before publication of either of the series involved in this case.
27. Omegaverse has been described as a “perfect storm” of several popular fan fiction (and romance) tropes, often including form-shifters (especially werewolves), soulmates, “breeding” and hypersexuality, empathic or telepathic bonds, and biologically deterministic hierarchical societies. As a term of folksonomy (rather than taxonomy), omegaverse is collectively created and used by its fans, who are at liberty to include or exclude any aspect they like. No one owns the omegaverse or its tropes.
28. To be recognized as an omegaverse, at least several of a large number of the usually-recognized common omegaverse tropes need to be present. These include:
• Imprinting (the mythology within omegaverses often assumes there exist certain “true” Alpha/Omega mate pairings, a perfect match of eternal love, and the Alpha often “imprints” on his mate);
• Scenting (pheromones are excessive for Alphas and Omegas often displaying their moods and affection);
• “Omega Heat Cycles” and “Alpha Rut” (a biologic necessity to procreate);
• Mate Bonding (a permanent bond between the partners, often because of imprinting and claiming bite);
• “Claiming Bite” (the Alpha marks the Omega during mating);
• Knotting (a physiological condition experienced by the Alpha during mating to aid in impregnation);
• Pregnancy (on the part of males – often called mpreg – as well as females).
29. Omegaverses share many other commonly used terms and ideas, such as “nesting” (the need to prepare a place for heat and conception), “heat suppressants” (often used to hide one’s Omega status or simply not to experience heats), and Omega “sanctuaries” (a place where Omegas may experience their “heat” without the intrusion of Alphas).
30. By most accounts, omegaverse arose as a specific sub-genre in 2010-2011 and acquired its name late in 2011. A/B/O started as an anonymous fan fiction community for the television show Supernatural, and quickly grew popular enough to become an identifiable genre with its own recognizable tropes. Within two years, the sub-genre had spread to dozens of other fandoms. For example, on the multi-fandom collection, Archive of Our Own, about 2,000 stories were tagged A/B/O by 2013. The sub-genre’s popularity grew exponentially; by 2018, more than 40,000 works had been tagged A/B/O.
31. Although the majority of omegaverse stories employ a male-male sexual dynamic, by 2013, about 10% were labeled male/female. A June 13, 2011 story is recognized as the first male/female story that followed clear omegaverse tropes and terminology. Archive of Our Own hosts several longer omegaverse stories about Alpha males and Omega females written in 2012, including novel-length male/female stories from 2014. In 2014, the mainstream feminist blogging site Jezebel featured an article explaining omegaverse to its readers.
32. The quick dissemination of omegaverse tropes across many popular fan fiction fandoms helped spread the popularity of omegaverse to male/male commercial romances (often written by fan fiction authors). Meanwhile, some established male/female commercial romance also grew in popularity in the 2000s, including that of the shifter (often werewolves, such as Patricia Briggs’ ALPHA AND OMEGA Series [2007–15]) and that of the hyper-masculine Alpha hero, which romance writer Doreen Owens Malek describes as a “strong, dominant, aggressive male brought to the point of surrender by a woman.”

マウントマッシブ10周年おめでとう🖤
We don’t always agree on everything, but it’s funny how almost the entire fandom has decided that:
-Waylon is a blond, Miles is a brunet, and Blake’s hair is black
-The Walrider is so protective of Waylon that no matter how much Miles says he hates him, Wally won’t let anything happen
-Lisa is a badass, and would probably fight Jeremy Blaire with her own two fists if they met face to face
-Miles is a shameless gay (and rightfully so)
-Waylon is super short, Miles is fairly tall, Blake is like too tall. Tall and clumsy. What are you doing with your limbs, boy, do you now how they work?
-Blake is bi and probably cheated on Lynn (and that’s a fact)
-Way is the oldest and Miles is the youngest
-Val is probably a trans woman but we’re tired of LGBT+ people being treated as sexual deviants so we just pretend we don’t know
