Inspiration fit in my puzzle today
During the February 2016 school break, Peace Corps Volunteers \(PCVs\) and an NGO will host a five day 2016 "Youth Ultimate Frisbee and Leadership Camp" for 55 Panamanian youth from all over the rural parts of Panama. Very few of the youth will have
Hello everyone! I will be co-facilitating a Youth Ultimate Frisbee and Leadership Camp for kids from all over Panama in February, and we are in need of some funding in order to help with transportation, nourishment, housing, and all that awesome stuff! If you're interested in helping us out, please check out the link below?! Cheers from Peace Corps Panama! ;D
One month until it's GO TIME!
Oh boy, so May 30th of 2013 was the Peace Corps application deadline for serving in 2014. It is now January 24th of 2015 and I will be on my way to Miami, FL on February 24th for the Staging Event and then to Panamá on the 25th to start the intensive pre-service training.
Adding up all the time from when I started filling out my application to finally closing in on go time, it's been more than a year! This process teaches the workings of bureaucracy, how to have
more patience and determination, and on top of it all, stepping up and making huge life choices.
Not many people just decide one day to apply to work as a volunteer for 27 months of more in a country completely unlike their own. And then, not many of those people that apply even get the opportunity to do so.
So far, I am extremely proud of myself, and I haven't even started PST yet, nor have I even been inducted yet! There is no doubt in the world that I am completely but calmly freaking out, as it takes a certain confidence and strong field experience to be ready to teach communities how to better conserve their environment. But hey, I got this far, so I must have done something right to show the PC
that I'd be a good candidate to serve as a volunteer. HOORAH!
For those of you who don't know much about me, I am a dual citizen of France and the US. I speak English, French, Spanish and Italian and very much plan on perfecting many more languages in the future. Yes, so I have travelled a lot on my own, mainly Western and Northern Europe, making my way around by couchsurfing, WWOOFing and volunteering at Pride and Music Festivals. So far, I have lived in the US (CA and CT with my family), Canada (Lennoxville for University), Spain (Alicante for one year on exchange) and Norway (Oslo for 5 months to work). But what am I passionate about besides language and travel? All creative forms of expression that build culture; film, music, cooking and art... and then there's soccer too. More importantly, there are human rights that are thrown under the bus more than they are protected and in effect.
Getting back to GO TIME though... Since i'm only a month away from my departure date, I'm getting to the point where everything I do, I keep thinking how much I need to appreciate it even more because I won't have it again for a long time. Like what you may ask? Just about everything. Running potable water, a flushing toilet, 24/7 Sonos playing Pandora and 8tracks, walking around the house comfortably in pjs and/or naked all day, 24/7 internet access, taking the car out for a spin
, cooking whilst dancing with my mom, drinking a nice ginger beer or cider with my dad, hugging my parents several times per day... the list never really ends.
I plan to write this blog fairly regularly (depending on internet access) in order to inform you all about what I am up to in Panama. All I ask of you is to please stick by me. Send me a letter or write me an e-mail, share ideas and stories and spread the love, happiness, passion and strength. Please do not hesitate to do so, okay!?
Cheers my friends,
-Steph

I'm not a big fan of memes, but these study abroad memes are actually perfect! :P If you've studied abroad, you could probably relate to most of these.

Each time a word becomes prohibited, you remove a stone from the Democratic foundation. Society demonstrates its impotence in the face of a concrete problem by removing words from the language. And I say that society is as cowardly as the people in it, who in my opinion are also too stupid for democracy.

“Be brave and be patient. Have faith in yourself; trust in the significance of your life and the purpose of your passion. You are strong enough to sit in the space between spaces and allow divine inspiration to shed some light. When you put positive energy and productive effort into the world it will come back to you. Occasionally in ways you might not immediately understand and on a time frame you didn’t expect. Look. Listen. Learn. Stay open. Your destiny is awaiting you.”

:o oh my goodness! Another great new film I'd love to see. This time it's about falling in love while travelling.
Katerina Plotnikova takes beautiful photographs of models with other trained beings of nature. Let humans and nature be eachothers companions.
Virgo for the win :)
“Make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty.” - Jon Krakauer

haha! Katerina's work is hilariously cheeky. Reminds me of work by Chema Madoz. :D
wow, I can't wait to see this one!
Thoughts...trains of them.
I lay contemplative... dreaming of my options. What can I do? Where can I go? Who cares about me? In the sense of more than more, not just any odd-ball. Is it worth it? Going home can't be the solution... it's the easy way out, of unsuccessful spontaneity. But then what? If I stay, will I find my way? Will I be able to survive? Money... money is the most important object unfortunately. Without it, comfortable city survival is non-existant... It simply does not exist. Where am I though? Does travel make something more of me, or does it make something less of me. Do I question more? Or, does my life become more incomplete? And then there's love... love and travel, travel and love. I don't have the answers... I just lay nervous and contemplative. -SHB
