The felinoid ancestry of Vulcans still peeks through despite millennia of evolution. Sarek is apparently an “up” Vulcan.
Spock just straight-up curls up on the desk
Several years later on the Enterprise, Jim comes into Spock’s quarters for something and nearly jumps out of his boots when he finds his first officer curled up on the top of a bookcase

So if I’m understanding it right, this is basically the equivalent of stopping by a coworker’s house to pick up something and next they disappear and their toddler comes out of some room with a sticky toy phone and hands it to you and you’re just left there like an idiot like UHHHM THAT’S NICE and THANK YOU? and also ANYWAY IS YOUR DAD AWAKE YET? HELLO? ANYONE? and walking into a door as you try to get away.
Also the whole thing is super interesting?
Some cold, wet mornings, you’ll find the hornbill, sitting atop the termite mound that the Mongoose have taken refuge in over night, waiting for it’s band of companions to rouse. A little impatiently it seems, it sometimes taps on the mound, quite insistently. Before long, the band of mongoose start to emerge from the warm interior, ready to start searching for a morsel or two.
As they forage through the shrubs and grass, the hornbill perches on branches above, snapping up any unfortunate insects, disturbed by the mongoose. What does the mongoose get out of this, apart from a rude awakening? Well, since the hornbill gets an easy meal, the mongoose gets in return, greater safety that the hornbill’s higher vantage point gives them. Should the hornbill spot something dangerous, an eagle or another ground predator, it will utter an alarm calls, sending the mongoose scurrying to the nearest shelter.
This is known as mutualism. Both species are benefiting from the other with neither being negatively affected.
spock’s room decor is actually fucking bonkers. The weapons??? the big red velvet curtain??? like ok phantom of the opera go crazy.
for reference jim’s room has some photos and a plant so we can surmise this is uniquely a spock being a dramatic weirdo thing
You are judging Spock’s room through human associations tastes. Remember, Vulcan blood is green and the planet Vulcan is red (Discovery even adds to this by showing red trees around Sarek’s property).
On Vulcan, red is the color of nature, so (assuming Vulcans even assign meaning to colors), red is likely a very calm and soothing color choice. Green is probably the Vulcan color of passion and/or danger.
From a Vulcan perspective, Spock’s room is a cozy cottage core with some historical knickknacks hung around.
Kirk’s green carpet, green plants, green lighting room is the Vulcan equivalent of a boudoir at best or blood-stained slaughterhouse at worst.
so what you're saying is Vulcan children's hospitals-
When they say Dick Grayson family move was the Quadruple flip they mean this trick:
(Video from Cirque du Soleil's instagram)
for context, there are only 3-5 people alive right now who can do this
average friend group of ppl in their mid to late 20s consists of someone who just got married and bought a house, someone’s who’s already a divorcee with a kid, and someone who still hasn’t recovered from that one thing that happened when they were 12
case in point
I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
Are there any other particularly egregious examples?
This book already exists, sort of! Or at least, it’s a biology textbook but I bought it for writing purposes:
It starts with a chapter about freezing to death, and it is without a doubt the scariest thing I’ve read in years (and I read a lot of horror fiction).
This book can be downloaded for free on Researchgate, posted there by the author himself:

(ID: The book cover to "The Biology of Human Survival: Life and Death in Extreme Environments" by Clause A. Piantadosi.
The background is of several people with rope tied to their waists pulling on a sled with the rope, in the snow during a blizzard. An empty boat is nearby. End ID)
