“Amadeus? Then you definitely have a giant handful. And yes, that was a joke pertaining to how every time I see Amadeus now he’s roughly eight feet tall and green. Do you know anything about that?”

Bruce hesitated for a moment before letting out a sigh accompanied by an eyebrow raise, “--sort of? He didn’t fully explain it to me. Something about nanobots? He doesn’t seem to be in any immediate danger so I think that’s why he’s been relatively quiet around me in that respect.”

“Murdock. Matt Murdock. And you are?” He offered out his hand as he introduced himself with a soft smile. “And uh Columbia University.”

“Bruce,” he hesitated, unsure of the other’s knowledge of his reputation. Making a few mental notes of their interaction so far, Bruce took Matt's hand and shook it, firmly and deliberately, “Bruce Banner. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Murdock."

“Bill Foster was, actually. Hank Pym planned to continue to do so after his wife Janet managed to partially stabilize me. So I suppose that’s right. Quantum Energy is, at least.”

Bruce continued to scan the file, nodding in acknowlegdement before noticing the fact on the screen with his own eyes, “Right, and Hank and Janet were---” Bruce hesitated, searching for the right wording, “--taken- by the Cleanse. As well as Hank’s daughter. And Scott. Leaving you all on your own.”

“I’ll say it again: where is the fun in that? You two are quite the pair. You could accomodate each other, y’know. Compliment. Maybe that’s what I meant.” Val swayed slightly in place. “Eh. They weren’t good books anyway.”

“It sounds easy in theory, doesn’t it?” Bruce’s gaze drifted to the ground for a fleeting moment before angling back upward, meeting Val’s eyes, “And that’s a good point, but one could argue all books have some value.”

“Forward? Ha.” Val laughed. “That’s not forward. That’s a question that makes sense considering how much I drink. I think practice makes perfect in my case. I’ve been doing it for so long I’m not sure how to do anything else. Besides, Asgardian’s have far higher tolerance than you Midgardians. Your drink is far less efficient but it will, eventually, get the job done. Asgardian and Sakaarian liquor is what I miss.”

Bruce shrugged at Val’s initial response, before his expression morphed into that of mild shock and intrigue. “Remind me to introduce you to Everclear--” he added, letting out a slight chuckle before over-exaggerating a shudder in response to a sudden memory from his college days. "Not that I've ever tried, but we might be more alike than you realize," Bruce mused, taking a long, slow from the glass of amber colored liquid.

“You have any ideas for better ways to occupy my time?” Bruce asked, brow raised in question.

“Don’t apologise, I’m glad you did.” Jennifer placed her bag and keys down on the end table, shrugging her coat off. “I don’t, I was just going to work on some cases, but there’s nothing urgent that needs attending to.”

She paused for a moment. “Everything okay, Bruce?”

Bruce listened intently despite his thoughts still managing to drift, “Hmm? Oh, yeah-- everything’s fine.” Except for some issues of a greener nature.

“Totally fine. How-- how’ve you been?”

“You can see it now can’t you? Our name in lights as we walk through Tokyo Disney singing in basketball jerseys.”

“I’m not even going to pretend like I still know what you’re talking about.”

“Bruce,” Jennifer paused, a smile growing on her face. “Of course, I’m sorry, I just wasn’t expecting to see you! What brings you here?”

Bruce’s own expression melted into a smile akin to his cousin’s, “Just visiting. Sorry to drop in so unexpectedly, but I called ahead and they said you didn’t have any clients today--”

“Radiation-challenged?” Amadeus repeated replied amused. “You you cousin and I should make a band and call it that. We can even do a cover of we’re all in this together from High School Musical.” Amadeus joked trying to totally shift gears from their more serious conversation.

Bruce shook his head followed by an amused exhale, aware of Amadeus's deflection, but accepting it regardless, “That--- that conjures up quite the mental image.”

“What are you doing in my office?”

“Thought you might be a bit happier to see me--” Bruce chuckled lightly.

“I did spend two years trapped on a planet as their most prized gladiator without really even realizing it, so maybe twelve years will go by like that,” he snapped his fingers. Man, nothing like conversing with a synthezoid to make you question your entire understanding of the fabric of time and space.

Letting out what could’ve been both an exhale in amusement, and a sigh, Bruce ran a hand through his hair. There was no such thing as a future for him. This was it. This was as good as it would get.

“I’ve got Amadeus, I think that’s enough,” he joked.

Bruce scoffed, “---You can say that again.”

[hulksmxsh]

“Maybe I’m just lulling him to sleep,” Bruce let out a slight exhale in some semblance of a laugh, even though the amusement didn’t quite reach his eyes. Brows raising at the last observation, Bruce shook his head, “---that’s a tragedy.”

Bruce took another sip, hoping deep down somewhere that the alcohol would have some effect besides the unpleasantness upon consumption, “Please, forgive me if this is too forward--- but how do you metabolize all this alcohol? I’ve known Thor for a little while now, and but I’ve never really thought about how what an Asgardian’s tolerance is like...”

“Understandable,” Bruce gave a short nod before quickly putting his glasses back on and returning to the screen, “--according to your file, Hank Pym was treating you using quantum energy?”
