Stanford study says fossil-fueled cars will vanish in 8 years as ‘big oil’ collapses

A new study published by Stanford University suggests that within eight years, citizens will have no choice but to invest in electric vehicles or similar technologies.

Erre azért kíváncsi leszek 8 év múlva. Állítások:

EVs have an expected lifespan of 1 million miles 

in less than a decade, it will become very difficult for consumers to find petrol stations, spares or mechanics 

modern-day car dealerships will disappear by 2024 

the long-term price of oil falls to $25 USD a barrel

the “tipping point” will occur in the next two to three years when EV batteries surpass 200 miles and electric car prices plummet to $30,000 USD. 

By 2022, the low-end models will be sold for as low as $20,000. Following that, it will be the death of big oil.

New Weapons for the Next War

The excellent photograph featured above was taken circa 1930 for use in recruitment advertisements. It shows a diorama of US soldiers using a variety of weapons in the field ranging from an M1917 Renault light tank to a 37mm light gun to an M1917 mounted on a cart. In the background a soldier mans a howitzer, another readies a rifle grenade. 

In the foreground four men demonstrate the infantry’s principle small arms, the M1911A1 pistol, the M1903 Springfield Rifle, the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (mislabeled submachine guns) and the hand grenade. 

The photograph is interesting as it was taken near the middle of the Interwar Period between World War One and World War Two. The weapons the troops use are all weapons of the first war. This photograph was initially taken for recruiting purposes. The Modern Mechanix article which features the photograph entitled ‘New Weapons for the Next War’ actually discusses some hypothesised weapons which might be used in the ‘next war’ including a gas which could suffocate engines, death rays, poison gases and high speed armour piercing bullets.
