PLEASE NOTE    that this character is chronically / terminally ill and there will be both ic and occ mentions & discussions of chronic illness, cancer, self medication, and depression. additionally, the far harbor dlc features themes surrounding cults, insular xenophobia, cannibalism, and general post-apocalyptic horror. triggers will be tagged but please follow with care.

RULES BRIEF.       please do not use heavy additional spacing between words / characters or gradient-coloured text when writing with me. in general, heavy formatting is hard for me to read. blog is nsfw heavy and therefor exclusively 18+. all triggers are tagged with #trigger /. minors will be blocked. mutuals only, all mutuals are welcome / invited to im me or ask for discord. if i don’t like you / the things you post, i will soft/hard block as i see fit.

MAIN ARC.       timeline follows a canon divergent plot in which the mariner replaces longfellow as the sole survivor's companion on the island. after arriving, avery will tell the sole to ask the mariner for assistance in traversing the island, as it is she who has more intimate knowledge of the interior of the island as well as the surrounding waters than anyone alive. the mariner will (after completion of approval-winning fetch and carry quests through which the sole proves their skill and tenacity and willingness to contribute to the island) lead the survivor on subsequent quests across the island, remaining neutral and standing outside all interactions until either plot to destroy the dock town comes to light. in order to complete any such plan, the sole will be required to defend their life against the mariner, who will become hostile. a high approval or romanced sole can convince the mariner to accompany them back to the mainland on any subsequent travels after completing the main dlc questlines, making her a permanent companion for so long as her health allows.

BIO BRIEF.       sara ann loiseau, exclusively publicly known as the mariner. she / they, mixed, lesbian. fc kaya wilkins. last living member of the loiseau family that once solely occupied the southside pier where the occupants of the island are currently sheltered. mechanic, shipwright, and engineer. built / maintains the surviors' defenses, far harbour's last remaining true survivalist. 6'0" and lanky, athletic flat-muscled & angular build, pale brown eyes with distinct sectoral heterochromia resulting in grey-to-lavender wedge dissections in her right iris. acts and appears exhausted. unfriendly, foul-mouthed, and tenacious. extremely deadly marksman. maxed intelligence and perception, waning but once near-maxed agility and endurance. increasingly low endurance and universally low luck. natively bilingual in english and acadian french. strong northern maine / faint acadian blended accent. lives with diagnosed but unclassified chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

the mariner wears a gas mask in the deep fog because she isn't stupid—in light fog she'll just wear a damp bandana tied over her nose/mouth and she isn't going to /not/ go in if she needs to but she's never unprepared anyways because she always brings a gas mask strapped to her essentials when she has to move around the island

also like—can we agree that the dialogue in regional locations in fallout games is often very overdone/bad, like the mariner's voice actor and dialogue is pretty much just bad, i will not write her talking like that

sara is mixed—her father was black and her mother was white. while her father was born and raised on the island, her mother was a trader from the mainland, further north on the southern coast of canada were heavy radiation exposure is much less prevalent. her mother drowned when sara was young, along with her younger sister, and her father was convinced, as most islanders are, that the misfortune of her death was brought about by the island itself. sara believes this as well—this contributes to her complicated relationship with the island, a deep connection that blurs the lines of spirituality, survivalism, and superstition

of all the things i know about far harbor (blah blah it's based on bar harbor / mt desert island, 108 sq miles in size, takes you 3-5 days to cross the interior, 7 days if you take the trapper-encamped ring roads to avoid the dangerous inland, etc etc) i ESPECIALLY know that there is some weird irradiated mushroom shit going on on that island, and sara is a mycology freak you know the type
