Vermont Avenue Halloween 2018
“Recently I traveled to India where I kind of went through a breakthrough emotionally. I was just so caught up in the everyday mundane tasks of life. It really opened my eyes to be more peaceful, forward thinking and now I'm all about the love. I went with my two girlfriends. We just let go and dove into something new. It was so great to have these feelings of openness, acceptance and peace. We traveled with just a backpack, slept on the trains, in local people's houses and ate the street food. I wanted to immerse myself in another culture so that I could come back with a new perspective and appreciate what I've got and what I can do for my community. It helps be able to step back and be aware of what other people don't have. The people we met were so spiritually rich but so economically poor but there's so much beauty in being around them.” “What would you tell people that need to find themselves?” “If a trip to India is not your thing, then find your 'Inner India”. Find your place to reconnect with what's important.”
In a strange turn of events I present a Christmas Miracle! Singer/songwriter and all around amazing human (and a HOA alumni) Jane Kramer appeared on my toast this morning. For God so loved the world she gave us strong women. A heartfelt Happy Christmas to everyone!!! Thanks for making the last 4 years so wonderful!!
While this photo does not contain any humans, the humans behind this cracked me up. Great sign.

“I'm born and raised in Asheville. I find it extremely difficult to live here. I love when people come to visit and experience Asheville. It's a beautiful city and lots of beautiful people that live here. I want them to experience that. But as a native living here most of the time I can't make my rent. A lot of establishments don't pay a living a living wage. I know they want to make money but...”
“This is Jolene J. I got her before I moved to Mexico. We've been to Reno, Portland, Seattle then here. The past few years I've been moving around trying to get my shit together and she's a fucking trooper. She does everything with me. She is just awesome.”
“I've traveled all over the world, Asia, Europe, I grew up in England, lived in India for 2 years. Everywhere I've been in the world, the grass is the same, the mountains are the same, the lakes are the same, but what makes places different are people. That's what I love about Asheville. There are so many fucking cool ass people here.”
“I've started taking better care of myself. My physical self, more so in the last couple of years. I've been working in kitchens for like, 15 years. The older we get, our bodies are machines, we need care. It helps me to to achieve everything I have to do everyday. I try to remember everything isn't a life or death situation. I try to work with people's different personalities and instead of focusing on myself I've been focusing on my team. If they're happy, then I'm happy. I remember in my 20s all I was focused on was what am I doing? It was my life, my bubble. And now that I 'm getting older I realize that I don't matter that much. I feel like what can I do for the world, what can I do to help this group of people I'm working with. How can I use my skill and help do something good in my community.”
'What are you are thankful for?” “Family. They are my lifeline. When I was going through school I was lost. I didn't know what to do or where I wanted to do it. They helped me. They are just so supportive about each place that I hop to. I'm happy to say that I've graduated and feel like I'm on the right path.”

“Literally I was just hanging out, not sure what I was going to do and then bam! As soon as I put my mind to it...there's some kind of magic here in Asheville. I felt drawn here and it's just kept me here, the mountains, the forests, the people. There are so many great people here. Now all of this exciting stuff is happening. I've started a business it's called Rove and Feast. We prepare dinners, a five course, sit down dinner. environment, no more than 20 people. The idea is to build community around food. We use local farmers. It inspires me and to have those ideas come together is so amazing. My partner, he's an amazing chef. I was so lucky to find him. It's great to see the people that come to these events leave as friends. I love asking people what brought them here to Asheville.“
Fall in love with Asheville
"How far have you taken it out?" "Just here in Asheville. I just enjoy having it on Haywood and letting people come by and look at it. So many people seem to know about it which is unusual for me because I'm a little bit of a wallflower. So the attention, that's what I'm getting used to. People ask me how long I was planning to buy something like this and I'm just like, I saw it. I bought it. I own it because I like it. It's not that deep."
