Email from a teacher
Just an email to say how much my class enjoyed your course this afternoon. They got a lot out of this course and even just over the course of the afternoon I could see children developing confidence.. especially to see the children who are normally so quiet have the confidence to stand up and speak in front of so many others! I will be putting a post on our school website tomorrow with a few of our pictures.
The workshop was really beneficial and I have spoken to a few other members of staff who feel that it would also be great for their year groups too.
“I really can't stress enough the positive impact I think a scheme like this could have”
Human Utopia is (in my opinion) a fantastic scheme. When we arrived I was a little dubious but the work they have clearly done with students all the way from KS3-4 is pretty inspiring. The scheme is hard to explain, but what he managed to do in one hour with some of our most challenging students was quite something, you could see the boys maturing in a blink of an eye. The lads even said "can we do this again?" They just wanted to keep talking and just let all their inner demons out in a relaxed setting in front of complete strangers and peers. I really can't stress enough the positive impact I think a short term scheme like this could have for Year 11, but also a long term scheme from Year 7. The confidence that some of students had who had been part of the scheme, even though some were in care, suffered bullying or even wanted to take their own life, coupled with their openness and honesty and passion to better theirselves was simply a pleasure to witness. This scheme works. I would get it in at all costs as it can and will make a difference and I'm sure the boys will agree!
I'm sorry if I sound over excited in this email, the impact I saw it having on our students and others was just so moving and why I got into the profession.

humanutopia - 10 Years Young
This year we turned 10 years old! To all the young people, adults, families, organisations we have met and worked with over the past 10 years - THANK YOU. We couldn't have done it without you. Have a look at our 10 year impact video and please share if you know someone who would like to see it or be interested in what we do
I was part of a group of students from that took part in one of your courses and it helped our year so much to support each other and believe in ourselves. It really had a impact on me and seven years later I have discovered that being able to have that positive impact on the younger generation is something that I would love to be involved in. So, I wanted to thank you for the inspiring lessons you taught us all that day.
An email out of the blue from one young lady who has felt the benefit of our work seven years later...

A lovely week to begin the term! We welcomed three new members to our own team, got staff thinking about the purpose of education at two deeply powerful INSET days, revisited old friends and made new ones! This week, we have worked with: 970 students 195 staff 5 schools This post was from a young man from a school in Northampton: "it was a reaally great day, made me reflect on my past, who i've hurt etc. It gave me some clarity on where i'm at right now in my life, made me feel more confident in my talking to others and in front of other people, it also made me feel good to get off of my chest - how I felt about my treatment of other people, I also feel confident about my future with my partner of 4 years almost and feel a changed man and the ability to share that today felt good, i'm confident about where I'm and and also where I plan to be in my future - with my partner, in the career we both want to do and enjoy with a family to raise and share our life experiences with and advise them on the mistakes we've made in our lives and give people the confidence they need to be who they really are and not hide or shy away from the world, be who you are for you and not for anyone else, it's your life, you're the one who is behind the wheel of your car, driving your life forward, you make the choices, and it should be for you and nobody else, sure there may be signs around pointing in different directions at crossroads but you are the one who chooses which path to take...so may I just say, thank-you for today making me realise where I'm at in my life, where I want to be who i've hurt, taken for granted and hopefully now i'll be able to focus on those in my life and try and make their life a little better, a little happier each and every day and to cherish the good things in their lives. Thank-you again."
View from a parent...
"[humanutopia] was most definitely a positive experience for my daughter and her fellow pupils, and very much promoted a decency agenda which is so often forgotten about in today's society. It assisted them with self-reflecting upon their behaviour towards each other, and made pupils recognise the level of pain they had previously inflicted on others albeit possibly not always intended, but for the purpose of classroom and school yard 'banter'."
