I already miss my garden pond, but at least I can enjoy the fish during the cold winter months.

In July every year we have an event called “ Secret Gardens ” Last year we visited some of the best decorated backyards in the neighborhood and this guy had turned the complete backyard into a pond and gardens. The backyard was about 150 feet wide by 50 feet deep and a pond covered 85% of his lot. This 3 level pond was just beautiful and equipped with a filter hidden behind some bushes. The deep end about 4 feet was at the base of the falls, so I guess he left the fish there for the winter. At least this guy had no lawn to cut !

I love to rescue feeder fish from my local pet shop. Poor fish look underfed and stressed out in the overcrowded tank. After a couple of weeks in a fully planted 50 gallon tank they look great and in better health ! They are not the most attractive fish some pink and others look like minnows but they deserve a chance !I now have about 30 of them and are growing healthy.

SECRET GARDENS 2014

It has become a challenge in this area to remove all grass from your backyard and transform the space into beautiful gardens with ponds. Every year I remove some square feet of grass and this is what my yard is slowly transforming into.

Got to STOP doing that ! Every time I visit my local pet shop I feel sorry for the feeder fish ( minnows ) and end up buying a dozen for $3.50 just to save them from being fed to bigger fish! They are in my new 30 gallon tank re-done with river gravel and branches. Pretty hard to see them as they blend very well in this natural habitat. After a week in the tank they look super healthy and swim very fast .

This is the new addition to my aquarium, a golden angel, notice the very shiny scales, he is beautiful and his buddy is kind of jealous cause his scales don't shine as much !!
