i still can’t believe that the incredibles is likely set in the 1960s
the entire film is designed with classic 50s-60s art styles, a lot of the interior design of the parr household is in 60s style, fashion is generally reminiscent of the 60s, in the beginning of the film all the photographs and video are grainy and shot in 60s style, the technology in bob’s office is very dated, when edna is going on her “no capes” rant she cites superheroes who died from cape designs and says their deaths were in the 50s, all the cars in the film have 60s models, any advanced tech we really see is seemingly kept secret from the general public, here’s a newspaper from the film:
may 16th, 1962
some people are saying that the technology on bob’s desk was too advanced for the 1960s but not really, in the 60s computers DID exist they were just big and bulky and small screened, which matches bob’s:
you could argue that some of the fashion isn’t very realistic to the 60s as some of the women wear pants, but women did wear pants in the 60s even if it wasn’t common. as for the mens fashion, it’s kinda spot on. the business suits with short sleeved button ups and skinny black ties, the turtlenecks, and for more dressed down looks wearing a t-shirt and jeans isn’t very unrealistic (and that little boy on the red tricycle, wearing a baseball cap, and chewing bubble gum is like classic 60s imagery)
some outfits were likely oversights and/or them not wanting the time period to be too glaring. the sequel looks like they’re going to be making the womens wardrobe fit the stereotypical 60s timeframe better, as you can see in the trailer:
the writer and director of the incredibles has even said that he based the film on classic 60s superheroes and comics like god guys please use google search, why would i lie about this
Also in the original version of Syndrome meeting the kids he didn’t say the “Busy” line he says “I didn’t think they let you guys breed?!” Which, aside from being incredibly dark all on its own, suggests that America took fascist measures to control the populace of superhumans, making Bob’s struggle to keep the family hidden and everyone’s elation at Jack Jack not having powers utterly depressing ALSO the age of Violet puts the prologue scene somewhere in the 40s which forces the viewer to consider two possibilities, one that World War 2 never happened because of the existence of superheroes in America as a deterrent or two that superheroes were created by America as a weapon for use in the second world war
I was hoping that they’d change the art style between the pilot and the full series. Canon Tulip still looks cute
Also, looks like Jessie Wong gave us the official look a day early in her tweet yesterday
New original 3D animated movie: Ducks. The secret life of ducks when humans aren’t looking.
Whenever ducks fly south in the winter, they’re actually flying to a big city of ducks where they talk and have jobs and have traffic lights with pictures of ducks in them and every billboard and storefront is a bird pun.
A generic duck guy is a young adult who feels inadequate because his dad is a big broker in the bread stock exchange.
He accidentally reveals the secret life of ducks to a human child, and now he must take her south with him to duck city. On the way they get into hijinks and find out about a big duck conspiracy or something.
I was thinking at first this was an actual movie
It will be if you just give me 3 years and $150,000,000
How many times would “duck” be confused between the physical action and the animal in question?
12 times for comedic effect. 1 time used ironically in a sad moment in the end of act II. And 1 time in the last act when the protagonist has to say something badass when he defeats the bad guy.
This winter, ditch the binoculars and rediscover bird-watching with the hot new movie…….DUCK!!!!
If this post gets 100,000 notes I’ll start working on the script.
Well then…
Let’s get to work.
Without further ado, and over a year in the making:
The final draft of the script
put this in the fucking moma, the louvre, the guggenheim, the whitney, and the motherfucking prado

Long Reasons Not to Trust Moira in Retribution
“One of the things we really like doing with Overwatch is playing with perspective. We utilize perspective when we analyze or when we tell stories about characters, what they’re thinking, what their goals are. And we have a lot of unreliable narrators. We want people to pay careful attention to what characters think about in particular situations. We want them to use their judgment and their knowledge of a character’s thoughts to come up with their own ideas about the universe.
“[…] The world needs heroes, but it also needs villains. And we have a number of villainous characters in Overwatch. And what’s important to us is that their internal motivations are not purely rooted in ‘being evil,’ despite how they might seem on the surface. You know, as we reveal more about these characters, we want people to be able to empathize and understand their beliefs. Because sometimes what makes a villain a villain is the extent to which they’re willing to go to reach their goals. And one thing that we find most important when we’re talking about our villain characters is that there is nothing to say that a villain cannot be as charismatic - or more charismatic - or as likeable as a hero character. Because like the old saying goes, ‘Every villain is the hero of their own story.’”
- Excerpts from Michael Chu’s GDC talk, “Thinking Globally: Building the Optimistic Future of Overwatch,” April 2017 (source)
“We stand on the brink of a breakthrough in human evolution. I have dedicated my life to unraveling its secrets. I take risks that others would consider to be ‘unwise,’ for I do not share their caution. Overwatch held back the pace of scientific discovery for decades. They believed my methods were too radical… too controversial…
“And they tried…to silence me.”
- Moira, Origin Story (source)
———
It begins with an experiment.
It is thirty years in the future - approximately 2046-2047. Facilities of the defunct company Omnica Corporation have suddenly gone back online. In a moment of surreality, armies of robots are unleashed from these Omniums and begin to attack humanity the world over.
But national militaries struggle. And fail.
And so, in a gamble for the fate of humankind -
They begin to experiment.
Some countries use cybernetic augmentation. Some countries develop highly specialized armor.
Some countries take normal soldiers -
And “enhance” them.
And at least one of those soldiers -
Gets a little…too experimental.
(A lot more under the cut. I’m not joking. Turn back now.)
