Things on my ‘Touhou Chaptered Fic To-Write’ list:

That Merry/Sumireko/Doremy fic that I’ve literally tried to write 3 times and keep changing because canon. It’s supposed to be partially based off the Diao Ye Zong album ‘utsutsu’ but not so much anymore? I have no idea where this idea’s going tbh.

Five things that never happened to Marisa Kirisame. Five ‘what if’ stories exploring Marisa as a person and the decisions she makes. Lots of ReiMari.

Merry and Renko are co-dependant and have no idea how to stop and it’s messed up and horrible.

A serious story in which Merry and Renko go too far with the Dr Latency thing and they unknowingly start a cult. Things get messed up. May be merged with the idea above.

Alice and Marisa bury a corpse. Pain and suffering. Might be a long one-shot.

The “Mega Fic”, or, Mima comes back and plays chessmaster mind games with Yukari. Yes, I too want to write one of those MIMA RETURNS AND SHIT GETS REAL stories. I actually wrote a synopsis for ‘part one’ of the fic about 5 years ago and the synopsis was 17,000 words long so... I think it’s gonna need a lot of pruning and shifting around before it’s even close to writable.

Post-GoU SeiShin. Probably another long one-shot.

Something cute and fluffy to balance all the sin...

Will any of it get written before 2020? Let’s hope so!

I should probably post here more actually, about... something. I suppose as a quick update: I got a job in Tokyo and have spent the last two months settling in and doing normal life stuff. Went wild at Reitaisai and bought Surrounded by Enemies’ 1000-page touhou novel among other things (it was quite a sight seeing it piled up on the table at their booth, like an actual wall). Might try writing again once I’m settled into a consistent routine because I have a giant list of things I want to write and it’s been way too long.

Also, I’m gay. But we all know that already.

Yes, I am alive! Just running around trying to find a job before my student visa expires in early April.

I took the JLPT N1 in December but didn’t pass, because bloody hell. I thought the N2 was tricky, but the N1 was like a whole new level of evil. I got 64/180 points though, and you need 100 to pass, so for my first time I think it went okay. Unsure if I’ll take it again in July because there’s so much uncertainty in my life at the moment (I don’t know which country I’ll be in around July, so I don’t know where to apply!) but I definitely want to do it again come December.

Anyone remember that booklet that came with one of the touhou magazines last year, previewing the next Grimoire of Marisa-eque book with Reimu and Sumireko and friends judging danmaku at a fireworks show? Well, Amazon is currently listing the title as "The Grimoire of Usami" with 25th March 2019 as the release date.

The seller listing it is amazon.jp itself, so it’s most likely legit, but obviously we won’t know for sure until ZUN or someone official announces it. Less than two months to go though!

Tumblr is updating its guidelines to completely forbid all things NSFW, and all NSFW things will be flagged for deletion. Problem: false positives have DEFINITELY been sighted, and a lot of Tumblrites are deciding to abandon ship because they know its a load of BS. What plans do you have for facing it when it gets implemented?

Well… I don’t really post much here anymore, and a quick glance over what I have posted this year tells me nothing’s flagged for deletion, so... I’m in no hurry to do anything.

I suppose now’s a good time to mention that I do have a twitter account! I use it to practise Japanese and talk to friends, but I retweet gay art and take pictures of things too, so there’s stuff to look at even if you can’t read anything. And ofc I announce new fanfic (in English) when I upload something to AO3.

Be warned that my sin levels are significantly higher over there than they are on tumblr, but that’s only a problem if you can read Japanese... lol

What do you think of the fangames released on consoles?

I don’t know because I haven’t played any of them! The only console I own is a 3DS (and a computer, I suppose).

A lot of them have really pretty art and graphics though. Or at least, the screenshots look pretty lol

Speaking of Marisa dying her hair, what do you think of her being a redhead in Story of Eastern Wonderland?

Young Marisa going wild and dying her hair RED like the teenage rebel she is. Maybe Mima dyed it for her.

Actually I remember hearing a few theories a while back that her hair is naturally red. All these fun hair colour headcanons.

so what's your thoughts on the sealing club fan-animes? (especially that new one being produced as a collaboration with tumeneco and surrounded by enemies?)

I dunno because I haven’t watched them. I don’t really watch anime... lol

While I am a fan of 四面楚歌/Surrounded by Enemies, that anime bundle cost 5000 yen and I was only interested in the novel, so I didn’t buy it. I might have bought it anyway in the past because I was loaded back then, but I’m a poor student now... ah well.

I think it’s cool that it exists though. All the Sealing Club fans I know love it.

Quick question from a Tumblr newbie (but I'm a Touhou veteran): Do you think that Marisa might be (half-)westerner?

Hmmm I feel like talking about race headcanons on tumblr is asking for trouble lol but the short version is no, I don’t think she is. I think she either has naturally blonde hair because that’s just what happened and genetics are weird in Gensokyo, or she dyes it.

I’ve seen a few interesting doujinshi about her hair colour, like a whole collaboration book dedicated to Marisa dying her hair, and I read one a while back where her natural blonde hair was proof that she was ‘cursed’ in some way. I can’t remember the title though.

New to this blog, are you studying abroad in Japan now?

I am, yes! I’m studying Japanese at a language school in Tokyo.

How I ended up here is a long story but basically, two years ago I was seriously ill, and thought I was gonna die for real and stuff, and that prompted lots of deep life questions. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is learn Japanese in a classroom setting and get seriously fluent at it, so once I was better I looked into the options. It turned out learning Japanese in Japan would cost exactly the same as learning it at home, in London. So I thought “Fuck it, I don’t like anything about my life right now and I’m not gonna use my savings for anything else. I’m going to Tokyo.”

And now here I am in Tokyo! No regrets.

what do you think of butaotome?

I don’t actively follow them or listen to their CDs, but the few tracks I’ve heard from them were quite nice. I thought the Forbidden Scrollery album they released a while ago was good. Maybe one day I’ll listen to more.
