Hello, I'm Anouk, the store manager of the Hunkemöller shop in London. Since a lot of people were wondering how we handle everything in the shop and what happens on a daily basis, I have decided to make a blog. Every two weeks you will be able to find info about us, the store and you ( our customers). I hope you will love this blog and find what you're looking for, just like shopping in our store.

  After some few busy months, I’ve decided to take a break of 3 weeks. In those weeks, I’m hoping to see something of the world. Because of that that we are hiring and looking for interims who would love to come work with us after their interim.

We want our new employees to be as excited about the Hunkemöller brand as we are. Therefore, we are posting this at here, on the blog!

 What are we looking for?

 We are looking for a new sales manager. We want someone with a lot of energy who would love to be a part of our team. Your main job will be taking track of our supply chain. Sarah, our current sales manager will go on maternity leave in one month. Afterwards, she’ll come back but only part-time. So, don’t worry about Sarah taking her job back, you’ll have enough work to stay with us.

 As we mentioned here above, we are also looking for an interim! You need to possess only a few requirements. You should be an enthusiastic, open-minded person who isn’t afraid to think outside the box. During this internship, you will follow me and everything that I do. After your interim job, here at Hunkemöller, you can join our team for a permanent function with a full-time contract. One of the possible jobs would be, becoming my assistant, my right hand.

Doutzen’s summer stories

 You may have read, a few weeks ago, that Doutzen Kroes came to London to present her new product endorsed sports line. Her line was a huge success. Because of that, she decided to collaborate again with us. You have been able to see this collaboration since last week in the stores. This new line is a swimwear line with some tunics to wear with those bikinis and swimsuits.

 Since Doutzen has such a busy schedule, we couldn’t organise a new meet-and-great contest. However, we still wanted to create something to celebrate the launch of her new line. Therefore, I am pleased to announce our newest contest. It’s a competition where you get the chance to win a professional photoshoot, for you and your best friend, shot by one of our professional photographers. There will also be a styling team available to do your hair, make up and pick your outfit. But this isn’t the only part of the contest! The 10 best winners will also win a goodie bag and a bikini of the new Doutzen’s collection.

 What do you have to do, to win? Well, that is quite easy. You and your best friend need to make a video explaining why you guys should win. The most creative, funny, original, … video will win. Those winners will be contacted peer-to-peer by me on the 30th of May.

To everyone else, don’t worry. You can always shop Doutzen’s new collection in our stores. But be aware that everything is selling fast so hurry if you want your own piece.

 Because this is Doutzen’s third line we, the Hunkemöller team, wanted to do something in return. We have decided to make this a carbon neutral collection. This means that for every product made we have planted three threes. These threes will create a complete new forest in Great-Brittan. Something that we need more than ever. For everyone being sceptical or just curious. You can find our new forest next to our famous Kielder forest.

Easter

After some weeks of crazy mid-season sales, stress management and a lot of shift work we were quite happy to welcome these two weeks of Easter vacation. Our team has put a lot of effort in cleaning the shop and making it cosy. Unfortunately, we don’t have a specific lingerie Easter collection but we’ve created something better: a sleepwear collection. A lot of people use the Easter holidays to relax. Therefore, we thought of a collection, which lets you do this in all comfort, and still makes you look fabulous.

 Of course, this doesn’t come without a small Easter present. We’ve made our own outstanding wheel of fortune. This way nobody knows what he or she will get. There are thousands of options and to make you even more curious I’d love to mention already a few of those options.

You can win: a 5% discount, a 10% discount, a free pair of socks, a free sports accessory…

For everyone something as you can see. You can spin our wheel the whole month of April. Our only rule is that you must buy something first. Luckily for everyone, our new collection is so cute and cosy that you won’t be able to leave without buying something first.

 Thereupon, I would like to whish Alex a happy birthday. A lot of you will know her for all the help and styling ideas that she gives.  She works at our fitting rooms and helps all of you with finding the perfect bra. She has now been for 7 years with us and we can’t imagine a day without her! To us she is a lovely friend and college. Therefore; HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX! And of course, a lovely Easter to all of you.

Mid-season sales

Our mid-season sales have only briefly started, I’m already dead-tired and we still have one month of sales to go. The sales periods have always an enormous workload. People have high expectations about our profit. But this isn’t the case. Christmas and valentine’s day are our most popular times. In these periods, we always make the most profit. When we have sales, tones of people come by and shop. Due to the sales, our profits are low and we should sell way more to have a great profit. As a result of this we want to put our shops full of all the lingerie that we still own. Sadly, this isn’t a great option. Whenever the shops looks too full people stay away. It doesn’t look nice to shop and people should have to look too much to find something that they might like.

Due to all the people shopping in this period we must hire more employees, even consultants. We still want to provide a nice shopping experience. This is hard to create when people need to wait for a long time. It’s the biggest bottleneck during our sales season, the waiting time.  Of course, we can’t change the time that you’ll need to wait at fitting rooms. But at the registers or in the shop itself we make sure that we have enough people walking around to help.

 The sad part is that some people don’t see all the effort that we put in it. They allege that we could do a lot more. For example we get a lot yelled at because they’re frustrated that they can’t find something, that they should look for employees or that our waiting lines are too long. In their eyes, we’re accountable for all the inconveniences. We can understand that shopping in these circumstances are less agreeable. But we hope that with this blogpost people see that we try hard to make everything as perfect as possible.

We’re fortunate enough that Hunkemöller has a loyal public and that they don’t mind waiting 5 minutes. This makes our work so much nicer.

 With this post, I want to thank everyone. Our great team without a doubt the best team I have ever worked with. They work their ass off and don’t complain. Most of all I want to thank you, our customers. Without you we wouldn’t love doing our jobs so much as we do now. That’s why this year our mid-season sales are -70% instead of -50%.

Doutzen meetings

Last Monday, some of you were able to meet Doutzen Kroes. She came to the UK to announce something big she has been working on. A once in a life time opportunity for a lot of us.

 Doutzen came to present her new collection in her famous line, called; “Doutzen’s Stories”. As a result of her successful line, we were asked to not make any publicity. Therefore, there weren’t any publications of her coming, online. Only people who bought during this month something for at least £50 in our store, had the chance to enter the competition. On their receipt, they could find a code to enter on our site. The codes were linked to the Hunkemöller-accounts of the buyers. Only people with access to that account could enter the code.

 The goal of the competition was to enter the media and express why we would let them meet Doutzen. A lot of creative and funny links were send to us. It surprised us how much effort some of you had put into it. That’s why we decided to let 50 people meet Doutzen instead of 40.

Besides all our lucky winners, the press was also invited, and some famous bloggers. Doutzen’s line is, as a lot of you know, extremely popular. This is the reason why the chiefs of Hunkemöller decided to give her a second line, a line of sportswear. Just like we foresaw, the mob was super enthusiastic about the collection.

Doutzen created this fresh sports line not only because she wanted to, but also because she was asked to. It was a long time ago since Hunkemöller had such a huge line of people waiting to buy something. Her collection has made us young and new again. We saw this as a win-win situation. Since Victoria’s secret is becoming more and more popular, more people go to London to shop in the VS shop. This causes a smaller turnover in our shop. Of course, we don’t have this problem all over the world. However, in every city where there is a VS shop, we see less spenders in our shops. We hope that Doutzen’s collections will help us bounce back.

We had some goodie bags ready for the winners. They also had the chance to take a picture with Doutzen. Afterwards, there was a small after-party with a private shopping session. The whole collection was available, new and old pieces. Our styling team was present to give everyone an unforgettable look for the evening.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, the time to celebrate love. From chocolate to jewellery to romantic dinners, who doesn’t enjoy a nice Valentine’s Day gift? Apparently, shoppers agree.

 The last few weeks, we’ve been preparing to make the whole store shop ready for you. We have hired extra employees to make your shopping experience as pleasant as possible.

Even though Valentine’s day is a busy day for us, we still hope to provide the perfect shopping experience and service. Lingerie is a piece of clothing that needs to fit perfectly. Therefore, we try to have enough engaged employees to help you achieve this goal. Unfortunately, last Saturday didn’t go so perfect.

We were off to a good start and had a lot of pleasure in helping everyone. Shortly after lunch, Linda, our head of sales manager, who oversees everything, didn’t feel well and needed to go home. This caused some stress due to all the people shopping.

We were fortunate enough to have Charlotte. Who had, luckily, a lot of leverage to save the day. She has been a co-worker for the last 6 years and took the whole sales department for her matter.

Next to that we had a contest to win a complete shopping voucher with a value of 150£. Everybody who wanted to enter the contest needed to share our Facebook page. At the end of the evening, we randomly selected someone. This person, who would like to stay anonymously, got the voucher in his/her mail inbox. Next to the voucher the winner had the opportunity to come shop on a Sunday. This means that the winner had our entire attention to his/her self.

People who didn’t win, don’t worry! In a few days, we will announce a new contest.

Lastly, we still have a lot of lingerie from our seasonal collection left. These will still be available in all our shops and next Saturday, March 4th, 2017, all the Valentine products will have a discount of 25%.
