It's My Party - Lesley Gore
Heaven Can Wait (1943)
Literally why is the Science section of “News” on YouTube empty and why has it been for a while? It’s totally blank. Has been for days, weeks, or longer? Maybe I just didn’t realize? I tried to look it up, but thanks to search engines nowadays, couldn’t find anything about it.
season 4 roach:
Having now read up to Time of Contempt and having played The Witcher 3, I've been rewatching the first season of the Witcher tv series and I'm actually appalled at how horrifically they butchered the dynamic between Geralt and Dandelion/Jaskier.
TV!Geralt treats Dandelion as if he's no better than a rock in his shoe and it drives me insane. Dandelion is Geralt's canonical best friend and for some reason they thought it would be a good idea to make Geralt (famously averse to unnecessary violence, may I remind you) hit Dandelion shortly after they first meet??? What the actual hell??
I've a feeling they reduced Geralt and Dandelion's dynamic down to "grumpy and sunshine" for comedic value entirely and that drives me insane. They cheapened an incredibly compelling and beautiful friendship. Geralt loves Dandelion. He doesn't constantly glare at him with derision and annoyance. Dandelion is in fact one of the very few people who are privileged enough to see the genuine fondness in Geralt's eyes when he looks at them. Geralt laughs at Dandelion's jokes. He enjoys Dandelion's singing. He's almost always happy to see him.
I beg of any Witcher fan whose only exposure to The Witcher is the show: please please please go read the books. They did these characters so dirty, you can't even fathom how much more wonderful they actually are.
The show is set before most of the books take place, right? And the first book of short stories? Part of the point is Geralt’s development. Also making him and some of the other characters more realistic, frankly. The game takes place after the books, but erases Geralt’s character development and seemingly… a whole lot of the books lol. I think people don’t allow the show to be complicated or developed its own story.
To me, it made sense that Geralt would be mad at this guy who is so much younger and more oblivious about many things. As opposed to calm and even keeled all the time. When Jaskier gets a little older and wiser, and Geralt is in a better place, their relationship eventually improves. But it’s also not as male centric as, for example Witcher 3, which I appreciate, so it doesn’t focus as much on their dynamic.
If you only care about Jaskier and Geralt’s silly (and inconvenient! Jaskier goofs up so much lol) but sweet relationship, then sure, you can look elsewhere, or later in the show. In context, I didn’t see it as butchering the source material in favor of cliches. I feel as though the writers worked with what they had (er like Cavill).
People interpret the show ungenerously, but all evidence, including interviews and the show’s actual text, demonstrate how much the writers know, think about, and love the books. They just don’t prioritize fantasies about white male antiheroes (which Geralt isn’t) or even Jaskier, making him more important than other characters.

Fringilla: With all due respect, sir, genocide is the bulk of your foreign policy.
