The clap of sandals hit the old wooden slats that fell in time scuffing sneakers as the two pushed their way through the crowd of the boardwalk. Nova's hand held tightly on to Axel's as he led the way through the people. She could feel the way her skin was clammy against his, her eyes cast down to the watch the weather warpped grain pass her eyes. She was still trying to get used to everything, her budding chest filling out her top that stopped at the middle of her stomach.
Her skirt shifted with each step as she followed closely after her boyfriend. Her eyes glanced over the shops that were passing by, the people as they weaved in and out of pockets of empty space that no one occupied. The heat was sweltering in the air, the ocean added that layer of humidity that made the air stick to your skin while the smell of salt water bubbles in your nose.
Nova was lost in her thoughts before she ran into Axel's back and let out a small off as she tightened the grip on her canvas bag and pushed her orange shawl up her shoulders a bit.
"You want shaved ice? It's really hot out and we can go sit on the beach after." Axel beamed up at her.
Nova felt her heart skip a beat as Axel looked up at her through those glasses. She felt her face heat up as she gave a nod of her head. "Yeah, I think I would like that a lot." She hummed back as she gave a smile to him.
Axel's eyes lit up as he shifted his grip on her hand, their fingers interlacing as they stepped into the line. Nova shifted herself over closer to Axel as they stood in line, the feeling crept up the back of her spine. It felt like eyes were shifting onto her, picking every little part of her. She subconsciously squeezed Axel's hand who squeezed it back and she looked up at her before pulling her down and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
Nova giggled softly before they stepped forward. The shaved ice shack was a copy and paste of the many others that could be found around, the sugary smell of the syrup lingering. The employee was wiping down the small counter, a little paper in the window read: My name is Jim, Tips appreciated. With a little alien and spaceship beaming up money from a stick figures pocket.
"What can I get ya two?" Jim asked as he looked out of the shop window at Axel and Nova.
Axel let out a yum as he leaned up and looked at the flavor list before seeming to the right flavor. "Can I get a large Tiger's Blood? And…" Axel looked over at Nova to let her pick out what she wanted.
Nova's brain stuttered for a second before she was saying it. "B-Blue raspberry." She answered.
Jim gave a click of his tongue before dipping back into the little shack. The sound of ice being loaded before being put through the machine echoed loudly as Nova and Axel stood waiting for their order.
"You look really pretty today." Axel whispered to Nova.
She felt blood rush to face and shied away as a smile broke out in her face. She was still getting used to the compliments but when they came from Axel, it always felt right. She knew that was because he meant every one. He had been the one that had given her the confidence to buy this bikini and to wear it. It was such a lovely shade of yellow with tassels that swished whenever she did and she definitely didn't spend an extra five minutes in the mirror back at the apartment swishing them around before they had left for the beach today.
"Alright, hear you guys go. Tigers blood on the right and Blue Raspberry in the middle, and a little extra for the happy couple, blackberry." Jim said as he held out the massive cup.
It had those standard stock images of flowers around it with a wide brim that held the cold sweet snack together with two spoons speared through the top of it. Nova reached out and took the shaved ice from the man and gave a small nod of her head. "Thank you." She hummed out before she squeezed Axel's hand.
Axel tugged her way carefully, always putting himself a bit in front of her to lead her but always checking back to make sure she was still there. She wasn't going anywhere, their hands interlaced while the other juggled their shaved ice.
Axel led the way down the boardwalk path to the little gap in the railing that gave way to stairs. Him and Nova made their way down, the sun beating down as the smell of the ocean grew stronger. They popped out at the bottom and both peeked around.
The beach wasn't super crowded or at least this area wasn't. People always stuck to the more mian part where most of the boardwalk business was and the long overlook of the pier. But here it was a bit more quiet, a couple of surfaces several meters off to the left and on the other side a family often in the distance. Axel gave a nod of his head before he tugged Nova along.
The two moved together, a slight sway in their movements that felt like a subconscious dance between them. Where Axel went Nova followed and where Nova went Axel followed. It was not often that they got moments like this where the world seemed to just still let them enjoy their time by the ocean together.
They drifted down to where the waves lapped at the ocean. Axel let go of Nova's hand before letting her sit down, one hand held out with hers and the other taking the shaved ice so it didn't get spilled into the salty water. Nova sat down, her skirt fluffing up and shawl bellowing before she reached out. The shaved ice being handed off like a prized possession before Axel joined her down in the sand. His button up shirt flutters a bit.
The two of them settled in as they began to dig into the shaved ice. The blue and red mixing together as they do it to a slush of purple that they didn't seem to mind. They sat there in silence as they listened to the waves, Nova's head falling to Axel's shoulder while they sat there.
As the spoons began to hit the plastic bottom of the shaved ice cup, Axel turned to look at Nova.
His pupils dilated as he took in the sight. Here next to him was his girlfriend. Here she was in the new bikini he had hyped her up to get and to wear, knowing that she would look good and all she needed was some encouragement to wear. But the sun was slowly sinking down which lit the water like fire with a golden hue and outlined Nova. She sat there, legs crossed as the yellow fabric of her skirt sat over her legs and the delicate strap of the top tied behind her neck. The sunlight caught her eyelashes as they fluttered, the black plastic spoon still sticking out of her mouth to lick off the remaining residue of the syrup from it.
Axel's heart stopped in that moment as he felt a massive wave of awe leave him. Nova looked like she had been heaven sent, something that would have been drawn on murals and placed in sculptures. She was so beautiful and he didn't think he could have enough words in the world to tell her the extent of her beauty.
"Baby, are you okay? Do I have something on my face?" Nova asked.
Her voice is what shook Axel out of his stupor before he processed her question.
"Yes there is." He said. Before even Nova could process that Axel was rushing in.
He pressed a kiss to her cheek before up to her temple and then her jaw. The fluffy of kisses took Nova off guard but the laughter that rang from her said she didn't mind. The two fell over, the shaved ice cup being forgotten as they fell back into the sand.
Axel peppered her face with kisses, hands cupping her face like it was made of porcelain. Nova's nose scrunched up as she laughed, legs kicking out as her hands rested on Axel's shoulders as he showered her in kisses.
"Axy! Axy! Stop, I can't breathe." Nova laughed put as the sensation of the kisses closer to her ears and her neck made her body jerk and squirm from being ticklish.
Axel kissed her a couple times more before he was taking her hands in his and holding them together. The two laced their fingers together slowly, their breathing heavy and smiles on their faces.
"You look beautiful, you always do Nova." Axel hummed out before he gently rested his forehead against hers, leaving the two to catch their breath as they listened to the waves as the sun set.
Thinking about how that I'm actually very easy to fluster and that I will crumble when I'm called pet names, complimented or praised. Like it's my guys favorite thing because I'm usually like sorta aloof when it comes to romantic things (the tism got me in the I don't notice or mistake it for being friendly 😗✌️),, but absolutely flustered when they gently hold my hips and tell me I'm pretty and im immediately sat and wagging my tail for them
[ohhhh this for nova was SUCH A GOOD CHOICE thank you so much!!!]

"I'm not sure if I can do this."
Nova gazed at the pile of new clothes currently held in her arms, the hangers draping over the front as she adjusted their weight slightly against her. Axel was holding up a simple sweater, eyeing the price tag with idle curiosity before peeking over at the woman to his side.
She played with the sleeve of one of her choices, bottom lip pulled into her mouth as she seemed to look doubtful. Axel put his sweater down and reached out, giving her arm a gentle rub before squeezing up near her shoulder. The pressure seemed to ease her shoulders back into a more relaxed state.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to." Axel smiled, "And we don't have to buy anything, I promise."
It was Nova's idea after all. She wished she hadn't put her mouth so confidently forward the first time she declared her want to shop in the woman's section of a nearby store, just to see the options. She had not expected to suddenly be surrounded by beautiful dresses and fabrics that lit her eyes up. Now, though, she was hit with the fear that lay beneath it.
"What if they look...wrong on me? I-I know my HRT's been helping but I'm still so..."
A hand touched her face, guiding it to look at her boyfriend's. A blush erupted onto her cheeks as she caught the way he was staring at her. Rubbing his thumb over her skin, his eyes had grown soft; brow turned upward and mouth parted slightly in that look of awe he always gave her. That look that seemed to make her feel like she was the only girl in the world. A look that made her feel...
Pretty.
"You're beautiful, Nov," Axel whispered as if he was lost in a fine art piece, "I want you to feel beautiful, too. Whatever that looks like for you, I'll cover you."
"...Alright. I'm going to try a few on."
"That's my girl."
The phrase made Nova blush, but the two went to the dressing rooms nonetheless. Axel sat outside the stall on a nearby waiting area, leaning forward with his hands on his knees as he waited patiently for Nova to change into her first choice of outfit. He looked up only when the door to the stall hesitantly began to push open.
"Don't laugh, I'm coming out."
Axel would never laugh, but he simply let her slowly open the door and bring herself out of the stall with a flushed, red face. He sucked in air, eyes widening as a blush crept up his cheeks in a hot explosion. A sunspot that burned him as his jaw set, admiring his girlfriend in her outfit.
It was a yellow sundress, the white ruffles beneath it extending out of the skirt to look like edged lace. The straps were thin, but the cut gave a beautiful sight of her shoulders and arms, fit and laced with beautiful ink like a canvas with bold accents. The view of her budding chest against the low cut edge was what made Axel's heart beat faster as his jaw unhinged for a few moments.
Nova squirmed under her boyfriend's gaze, averting her eyes to the ground as she mumbled a little nervously, "You think it looks weird, huh?"
"What? No! No-No-No!" Axel had stood up, moving to reach out to Nova. She barely registered when he wrapped his hand around the back of her neck and pulled her into a kiss.
It was slow, warm, and as usual seemed to carry all of the adoration he felt towards her. All the adoration she wasn't sure if she deserved, but accepted as she put her hands on his hips and kissed back. After a few seconds she smiled into his lips, and Axel pulled away breathlessly.
"Nova you're..." He exhaled as he swept his gaze over her dress again, "You're gorgeous."
"Really?"
"We are getting you this dress no matter what."
"It's expensive!"
"I do NOT care. This is my favorite one."
Nova laughed, kissing his forehead with a playful roll of her eyes. Still, she re-entered the stall with far more confidence than the first time, and Axel smiled as he listened to her hum a pleasant tune in the dressing stall.
Summary: Axel, Blurry, and Spooky get high and then go
You were red, and you liked me
Because I was blue
But you touched me
And suddenly I was a lilac sky
“Move it.”
Axel groaned as he looked up from his spot on the couch, lounging back into the shoddy leather material to count the mysterious stains that none of them had dared try to question beyond a google search of how to make them less obvious. It was one of those couches they had pulled from the side of the road. Jim had helped Axel carry it up the stairs to their apartment, where he promptly wiped it down and cleaned off whatever layer of dirt and other grime remained. When he and Blurry were laying on it together, though, the other always seemed to make it a habit of pointing out old and faded spots. Just to guess what might have caused it.
Now, though, the other was throwing Axel’s favorite red lighter at his head as he leaned back. Looking up with a frown, he saw Blurry standing by the television with his own joint hanging loosely from his lips as he watched Axel with a neutral expression. At his side, Jim was wrapped up in one of his own sweaters; one of those ones they had gotten at a tourist trap with a UFO and ‘I Want To Believe’ written and stained by many months of use. He watched Axel from the door as he tapped his shoes on. When Axel spotted a joint hanging between his lips, too, it was easy to figure out what was happening.
“I need to put my jacket on, gimme a sec.” He sighed as he forced himself up, pocketing the lighter in his loose pajama pants before moving to scoop a spare hoodie off of the nearby pile of clothes yet to be washed. It didn’t smell any worse than weed, what was a few hits more in it?
They three walked out of the house together, the chill of the night air tickling Axel’s nose in a way that made it feel cold and runny. He lifted one hand up, tucked it deep into the fabric of the jacket, and blew into it. The heat bounced from the fabric and sunk into his own face, relieving some of the chill before he felt Blurry’s hand shove itself into his unguarded pants pocket. The action made Axel stumble, face flushed as he looked over at the smirking man.
“Dude!” Axel reached out and smacked his arm, and Blurry barked out a laugh.
“I need the lighter,” He shrugged without much remorse, “We’re gonna go to FPE Mart while we’re out.”
“Oh thanks for telling me at home,” Axel’s sarcasm dripped out in what he hoped was the stickiest and most annoyed tone he could allow, “I definitely wanted to wear my pajama pants into a dirty store.”
“You wouldn’t have gone if it meant changing pants,” Spooky was the one to speak up now, the pipe of his words said to be helpful as he plucked the lighter out of Blurry’s hand. Blurry glared over at him, but allowed the action as the red head flicked on the little flame and held it to his joint. The tip glowed rosy orange as he inhaled, puffing for only a few times before smoke clouded the sky over them. As Jim inhaled, the smoke fell from his nose when he sighed out. Axel thought about those cartoons where characters were so angry smoke blew from their nose or ears.
Spooky was the exact opposite of angry, though. A smile was playing on his lips as his shoulders relaxed, head tilting up to look at the lack of stars in their city home. They all knew he missed them a lot. Still, he seemed just as pleased with the glow in the dark ones on the ceilings of their apartment.
“Still a dick move.” Axel pouted, but it was more of a huff to himself as he took the lighter, now offered to him, to light up a joint for himself. Soon the three jumped between the glowing street lamps, the sound of cars picking up the closer they reached a nearby busy intersection lined with gas stations and snack stops. Dingy with little lights flickering ominously over refueling stations, they stopped at the edge of the parking lot to loiter with their joints. Another nippy wind picked up, and Axel shuddered with a huff.
“Should have worn a better jacket.” Spooky’s tone was concerned, “You’re going to freeze.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Axel huffed, bringing a string of smoke out of his mouth alongside it, “Sue me, no one told me we were walking this far.”
Though it was a complaint, Axel didn’t hide the way he moved himself closer to Blurryface. The other man, with his beanie tucked neatly near the line of his eyebrows, let his gaze linger on Axel before he blew another puff of his weed into the luminescent skyline. Axel pressed their shoulders together, hand reaching out through the fabric of his hoodie to paw at the other’s black-inked palms. They were sticky, a little gritty from the roughness of their use, but not unpleasant. And, certainly, very warm.
Blurry didn’t say anything as he reached out in return, taking Axel’s hand in his before bringing it to his own hoodie’s pocket. Tucking them both in, Axel tried not to blush at the feeling of Blurry’s thumb brushing gently across his knuckles. With their hands tucked together, they continued on with their joints. When Axel tilted his eyes over to the other, he was simply holding the joint between his free hand, looking over at Spooky as he balanced on the higher up curb of the parking lot spaces.
Soon the familiar hum of a light high hit Axel’s brain, lifting him up onto the cloud that came with it. It hit the others too, judging by the way Blurry’s fingertips were now drumming on his palm and how Spooky was sitting on the asphalt drumming on his thighs. The tail ends of their joints faded out, easy to be snuffed and slid into a nearby trash can as they approached the convenience store smelling like sativa and sweat. Axel’s mouth had curled into a smile, the texture of Blurry’s hands fascinating even as he pulled them out and let his go. Spooky, in turn, wrapped an arm around Axel’s shoulders as Blurryface held the door open for them both. Sober, the action of public affection might have made Axel upset, but in the state of his mind Spooky’s weight felt good. Kept him grounded. From flying into the air with whatever high this was.
The automatic ringing of the door was followed by a bored greeting from a tired person behind the counter. None of them said anything back. Instead, Spooky separated from Blurry and Axel, moving down the candy aisle of the store with eyes full of fascination (and hunger). Axel watched him for a few moments before the man next to him, with their hands still in his pocket, began to pull them towards the slush machine. Grabbing two cups, Blurry finally removed his hands from the sweater to pour his own red cherry slush into the waiting cup. It glooped out in a shaky icy strand, the machine stuttering as it wheezed out its last drops of slurry for the day.
Axel pulled on the blue one, the blue raspberry scent emanating from the frozen treat as he smoothly slid it in. It wasn’t unusual for the blue slush to be still full, barely anyone seemed to like it as much as he did. Even the man at his side wrinkled his nose in distaste towards the flavor. Axel threw one of the clear plastic slush lids at him before popping one on top of his own drink and sticking a straw in it. They each bought an extra snack, whatever their current munchies had drawn them to. It was Jim who had appeared with the most snacks, mostly chocolate candies and caramels that seemed to tickle his fancy. His antennae bounced atop his head, clearly pleased, and soon the group walked to the front to check out.
“I don’t have enough money.” Blurry tilted his head at Axel, “Cover me.”
“Like fuck I will.” Axel made a face, but he had pulled his own wallet out to hand over what wrinkled bills he had. The cashier gave him the pitiful change of less than fifty cents and sent him with wounded pride out of the store.
“You owe me five bucks.” Axel kicked at Blurryface’s leg as they found a spot nearby the back dumpster of the store. The overwhelming scent of garbage was not Axel’s favorite, but the smell of their weed covered it up enough to allow him to nearly chug half of his slush drink in one go. Blurry had been doing the same thing, while Spooky was standing up and stuffing what appeared to be donuts between chapped lips. He seemed pleased by his purchase, with a wrinkled smile and the slight iridescence of the marks beneath his eyes. They were more like outer carapace than human eyeshadow, if Axel was being honest. He didn’t care much, though, at least the guy looked happy.
“I don’t get why you like blue so much,” Blurryface had removed his drink from his mouth, his lips stained artificial red under the yellow street lamp. The shadows cast across his face made him look stark and angry, his eyes glowing that frustrating shade of red that held tight to his iris. Axel stuck out his tongue, revealing it to be as bright blue as the slush in his grip as he retorted with equal frustration:
“I don’t get why you like red so much. It tastes like cough syrup.”
“Blue raspberries aren't even a real thing.”
“The Red Dye 40 in your brains makes you stupid, not that you aren’t already.”
By this point, the two of them were glaring at one another. Their highs made both of them bolder, and Axel felt a stirring in his gut more like excitement than anger at his boyfriend. Was that what they were? It was what they said when people asked, and it often got looks of shock on anyone who found out. He didn’t blame them, though, especially not when he and Blurry were already snapping at one another how they did. Still…It felt normal. Nice. The anger turned into something warmer and made his legs squeeze together as he bit his lip.
The other man noticed. Axel knew by the way his glare let up into a smirk, cocky and amused at the way he discovered the sight. Axel glared harder, trying to keep his bottom lip from trembling as his dry throat longed for another sip of his drink. Instead, he was reached out to. A painted hand grabbed a fistful of his hair behind him, and Axel could only yelp in surprise before he was pushed forward.
Blurry’s lips tasted like that artificial cough syrup flavor Axel hated. He groaned and grimaced, but that only seemed to let Blurryface draw his mouth closer, hand finding Axels and tugging it to fly to his own hoodie, gripping so neither would fall off balance. It never took too long like this for Axel to give in, exhaling a breath as he let his eyes flutter closed. As he submitted to the impatient bite of Blurry’s teeth as he tongued his way into Axel’s mouth. Weed made him more pliable to the guy’s strange habits of control. Sometimes it was nice to let him bully him around when he was barely aware of the jelly of his bones. High was a good time to let others take the lead, and every swipe of his wet and hot tongue inside of Axel’s mouth made him whimper and moan.
Drool had begun to spill between their mouths, and took a long while for its sucrose-laden strings to fall down and break off against the concrete below. He dominated Axel’s tongue, biting down on his lip and sucking his teeth in the process. Claiming it as his own. A challenge that Axel had no energy today to deal with, but his nip to Blurry’s mouth as the other retreated was a sign that there would be revenge. Their tongues continued to stay connected by a thick, slimy string of what Axel would call purple in the poor lighting. It snapped and he felt it dry on his chin.
“What was that for?” Axel snapped.
“I wanted to see what all the fuss was about,” Blurryface made a disgusted wrinkle of his nose, “I still don’t get it. It tasted like bubbles or some shit.”
“Says the cough syrup breath.” Axel shoved at him, sticking out his tongue in the process. For some reason, it made Blurry burst into laughter, covering his eyes with his beanie as he seemed to reel from something Axel had done. His cheeks burned in embarrassment as his head shot up to Spooky, who was watching them with a sip of his own Mountain Dew bottle. After a momentary confusing expression, he started to laugh and point at Axel.
“Your tongue’s purple now.”
“What? Like, for real?”
Blurryface stuck his tongue out, revealing his own purple shaded tongue. The blush it brought to Axel’s face made him smirk in amusement as he slid it back in.
“You made it too easy.” Blurry laughed, not with cruelty but with amusement. A little cruelty, maybe, but it was kind of his thing. Especially when Jim began to laugh with him, and the high in his system made Axel join them. Soon the three of them were cackling behind the dumpster, snacks and weed momentarily forgotten as they tried not to scream above the noise of traffic. Axel threw some of his slush at Blurry in anger, and was met with the other throwing himself at his body and pinning him down on the floor.
The two tussled in the dirty back of the store for a while, simply too entranced with one another to consider the time and place. Spooky watched as a grin spread on his lips.
“It’s nice you two are getting along!”
“I'm not.” Axel snapped, despite the flush of red that he wore as his arms were pinned by Blurryface’s wrist, and his hips were straddled by tight black pants.
“OH, I think we are.” Blurry teased, but bent over to bite Axel’s nose playfully and give him another bruising kiss before standing up. It was Spooky who offered Axel a hand to stand up, the group of them quiet as they gathered their things and fished a second round of joints from the pockets of Blurry’s jacket. With items in tow, they were quiet on their walk back to the house. Simply smoking. Eating. Watching the neon lights of The City shine ominously above them. Axel felt weird about them sometimes, like they weren’t meant for him, but he knew that was dumb. The City was meant for everyone, no matter what they thought.
It was easy not to think, though, when Blurryface found his hand and brought it into his jacket pocket once more, holding it as they smoked alongside one another.
When Axel drooled around his joint, the spit was still purple.
