K-Uber-A is a 4-panel fan comic I started drawing for the July 2018 Kubera FanFest, and for various reasons I never finished it until now. In the webtoon “Kubera”, on two occasions Ran Sairofe hitched a ride to travel a long distance (with Yuta in Season 2 and Shess in Season 3), but both events were off-screen. Here I imagined that Ran used an app to get his rides, with unexpected results. N-16 and N-23 are the years the scenes take place.
I used PaintTool SAI for the art and Adobe Photoshop for the speech bubbles and the tree. My current laptop does not play well with PTSAI, unfortunately. 😭 My motivation to finish now was because I want to quit my subscription to Adobe because it’s too fu€%ing expensive.
If you have a tumblr, please post it on your blog with the appropriate tags and I will reblog it. If you wish for your fanworks to be included in the fanfest but you don’t have a tumblr, please send this blog a message. If you haven’t read the instructions for specific tagging/submission information about submitting fanworks, please refer to this post.
Thank you for voting! The prompts are now set for Fanfest Week 2019, July 22 to 28.
For instruction on how to post, please refer to the guide from last year.
Day 1: Fairytale AU
Once upon a time the universe of Kubera suddenly became very Grimm indeed. Adapt an existing fairytale or creating a fairytale-esque setting of your own.
Day 2: Specie Swap
The sura as gods, the gods as humans, the humans as sura.
Day 3: Those who live long, love long
Love that transcends the boundaries of a short human life, for better or worse.
Day 4: Organized Crime AU
Whether it be the yakuza, the mafia, or the triads: pick one and set the characters inside a world of gunsmoke and money.
Day 5: Role Swap
How would the characters be in each other’s situations? What if Leez was the one offered Asha’s deal? What if Maruna was the one who had his village destroyed?
Day 6: Their 7 Years
Cover the time skip between season 2 and 3.
Day 7: Actors AU
And it’s a wrap! What if they could stop filming and the characters were simply actors who could go about a mundane life?
Kuberafest will begin in one month. Please do your best to submit and may the fanworks be bountiful!
For any questions please refer to FAQ or shoot me a question.
Congrats everyone, we made it. The first Kubera Fanfest week has come to an end! Thank you to everyone who submitted something–without you, fanfest week would’ve been the same as any other week!
Day 1: Beginning of the Universe
Day 2: Primeval
Day 3: Kindergarten AU
Day 4: The Finite
Day 5: Modern AU
Day 6: Cataclysm
Day 7: Genderbend
The week may be over, but it’s never to late to submit a fanwork for the fanfest! I’ll still be reblogging/posting anything submitted for fanfest week, so keep an eye out. And of course, even if fanfest week is over, it will never be a bad time to fill the Kubera tags with more content.
It was fun! I had to be a bit more creative than normal, and I think my drawing skills have improved a smidgen! And I wrote my first (mini) fanfic! Thank you for organizing this!
Names—In this universe, they mean everything. They hold destinies that could be joyful, tragic, or anything in between. But most importantly, the best names hold unimaginable power.
Dark mists slowly swirl in a space that seems to stretch into infinity. The silence itself seems endless, until it is broken by a nearly inaudible sigh. Soon enough, a dark, mysterious vortex rises from below and begins to churn. A humanoid form slowly emerges from it—a young teen boy with black hair, pallid skin, and pink, crazy-looking eyes. He coughs some of the mist from his lungs before noticing four barely-visible figures watching him. One of them claps, and the voice of a similarly-aged boy announces loudly, "Shadow Shrimp!"
Several groans erupt from the other three figures, including a deep male voice that grumbles, "You gotta be kidding, Vishnu."
Vishnu winks at his colleague before replying, "Why yes, yes I am, my dear Shiva." He pauses, clears his throat, and announces, "Chandra!"
The newly-minted Chandra glares back and hisses, "What the hell...?" He then rolls his eyes and vanishes. Vishnu grins for a moment before muttering under his breath, "Don't get too attached to that hiding ability. Just saying..."
Vishnu turns his attention back to the vortex, which begin to swirl and coalesce again. When the solid form of a woman with blue hair and claw-like fingers finally takes shape, the familiar boyish voice enthusiastically announces, "Homicidal Penguin!"
There is dead silence for several seconds. A loud cackling sound coming from the woman behind Vishnu is accompanied by the irritated voice of a second woman, who snarls, "Can't you take this job seriously?"
The boy chuckles before replying, "Okay, okay, Brahma." He then draws in another breath and announces, "Varuna!" The blue-haired woman nods to acknowledge the one who bestowed the name upon her, then utters, "Beach, please." A wave of water appears and carries Varuna away.
The next form that appears in the vortex is a woman with fox-like ears and a large, bushy tail. For what seems like an eternity, it is dead silent before Vishnu finally chirps, "Shuri!" Two voices sigh in relief, but a third one whispers, “Boo,” followed by an “Ow!” along with “Shut up, Kali...” Meanwhile, the foxy lady politely bows her head and leaves.
After a brief moment the vortex swirls once again, and this time another young teen boy forms into being, with long, seafoam-green hair and blue skin. Vishnu loudly announces, "Bitch Stole that Name!"
Getting the word out! Coming in July! See https://kuberafest.tumblr.com/tagged/kubera - also visit @kuberafest because hashtags don’t seem to be working there.
I love this pic, but isn't it a HUGE spoiler for those who only follow the English version on webtoons.com (where the boy is still little and doesn't have a name yet)?
