#80% reblog for the coloring #20% reblog for heahmund giving ivar attitude #i really miss their dynamic #it was inevitable that it would end as quick as it started #but i don't think there's been any other dynamic with ivar that i considered a believable character building as well as development #it certainly helped that i generally liked ivar's development during the first half of season 5 #even before heahmund waltzed into the picture #their dynamic was out of the norm #in so many cases it's about one person who is lower in status than the other person #and more often than not it's a woman who is lower in status #and i am just tired of these kinds of plots for so many reasons #because vikings keeps repeating it over and over again #but with these two it's about something entirely different and it concerns more their faiths as well as their allegiance #it was refreshing #and i miss that #i sure hope to see that kind of spark in s6b again #when ivar will return to england to raid #meaningful and developing conversations between ivar and alfred considering their history? i wouldn't mind that all #—— III. #i am not going to lie #this gifset made me watch vikings #i was only looking for resources to use alex hogh as a face claim for another muse #but in the end i watched vikings #because these gifsets looked so hilarious and intriguing to me at the same time #the way how they interact with one another?? 10/10 #plus i like jonathan rhys' acting #boy was i dumbfounded upon realizing i have to watch 4 seasons first before i'll even get to this point #no regrets though #i have a love hate relationship with vikings #but that isn't necessarily something bad #just makes you a lot more dedicated about the characters #even more so when you disagree with the decisions the show made #—— III. #THAT'S THE MOMENT I WAS TALKING ABOUT #you can literally see that ubbe is filled with incredulity on the third gif #because no one ever truly believed that ivar will actually manage to stand and walk by himself #i love how ivar stops in front of his brothers and starts to adjust his weight #to straighten up and to stand tall #to be as tall like his brothers after years of looking up to them (figuratively as well as literally)#it's such an empowering moment for ivar #and it's something he more or less announced before #by telling them that in order to be equal he must do better than them #he grew up being told he'll never be able to stand and walk and by proving everyone one it has so much more weight that #he does stand and walk now #that's really something i appreciate so much about ivar as a character #the show could have done even better about telling his point of view concerning discrimination #you can't even talk about a minority because children like him are usually killed during that timeline and the culture #except him because he still does have the privilege of a wealthy family and an infamous father #but all my nagging on these things apart #this is one of the moments i really liked #and of which i would have loved to see more #—— III. #his eyes #their eyes #love the coloring #it was one of those rare scenes where they remembered that the white to his eyes sometimes gleam blue #(i mean they talked about it during that scene they HAD to remember)#it almost worries me how one of the most heartbreaking scenes #it also among my favorites #because everyone keeps wondering and asking what ivar is about #(i am talking about people on the show)#and he explains himself over and over again #and whereas revenge is so deeply ingrained into all their nature #something they all sought for ragnar for example #they are just LALALALALALA about ivar's reasons #aslaug may not be as infamous like ragnar #(which is a whole other chapter because... let's be honest; she deserved a lot more respect than she gained... #i love and hate this at the same time #because they are both characters who i deeply love for what they represent #for what they stand #but the writing as well as the execution of the show and the fandom itself???#they villainize them both #even though they are both victims of circumstances #the result of discrimination #neither are inherently bad characters #especially with aslaug i will always understand and empathize with her actions as well as her mistakes more than with others #with ivar it's a bit more chaotic because the show developed him into such an extremely chaotic character #asdfghjkl #anyway #i love how much ivar inherited from aslaug #and how much he genuinely loves and honors his mother #more than any of her other sons do if we're being honest #long story short #aslaug deserved better #—— III. #maybe that's just me but if i'm jealous of someone #i don't tend to keep them close to me #on the contrary #i'd keep them as far away from me as possible to NOT be reminded what i probably can't achieve in life myself #but ivar does the _exact_ opposite #and he even admits it to that person (heahmund) that he is jealous of him #because heahmund basically embodies what ivar wants to be but can't be #most devout #strong and whole #'a man'#(and THAT is a whole other discussion of how ivar is made feel less like a man just because his first time was a disaster)#maybe i am reading too much into these kind of things #interpret too much into his words #but in the end it fascinated me that he's capable of admitting weakness #which goes beyond stating his obvious circumstances #because this is about an emotional weakness #too #but in my eyes it's actually a huge strength of him #that he wants someone around who's everything he can't be #that he wants to trust that someone too #for that it does not even matter to him which faith that someone is devout for #ivar is overall represented as someone emotionally unstable #but looking at all these little nuances #i can't get rid of the feeling that he's actually a lot more aware about his emotions than any of his brothers #not in all aspects but in many #he's not afraid to be truthful #overall i dare say that's really all about aslaug's influence on him #floki and helga too #—— III. #this episode? one of my favorites #can we talk about that level of determination?#how we already saw him wearing braces and trying crutches in season 4 #but it didn't pan out back then #but somehow he kept working on that concept because he knew that might be his chance #to walk #and to meet people such as his brothers on an equal eye level #can we also talk about how he stands up without anyone's help???#that's determination and stubbornness and the result of training his body #because whereas his legs are incapacitated #his upper body kind of makes up for that with muscle strength #i was generally in awe about that whole scene #the satisfaction you can basically read off of his face when he stands before his brothers #you could say he fluffs up like a peacock in that moment #standing tall - shoulders back - back straight and just being proud of himself #which he deserves to be #this is also the episode where he gets his first (?) tattoo #a powerful and empowering episode for ivar overall #—— III.
