Kíli scoffed lightly, not at all feeling sorry for Gandalf. It was his own fault for deciding to hire a hobbit after all. The wizard’s reasoning was sound, even to his young ears at the time, but he would have thought that Gandalf would realize the trouble he would be causing in the Shire for doing so. “He’s probably off sticking his pointed hat into someone else’s business,” the dwarf muttered. But his attention was grabbed the moment the hobbit mentioned Bilbo having an heir. That was news to him. He hadn’t been aware that Bilbo had married. He had heard Balin, before he went to Moria, and his uncle speak about some little hobbit that had a connection to Bilbo but he hadn’t paid much attention to it. Now he wished he had. “Aye, I would like to speak to this heir of his. Though I don’t remember hearing he had married and had a little one.” And not have been invited to the wedding. He would have thought that his uncle would have wanted at the ceremony at the very least.
The Shire may have ill will towards Gandalf, but Merry didn't. He was a Brandybuck with Tookish blood && that certainly said something for his adventurous side! Though, he did not exactly think he would ever have a chance for such things now. But now the next bit of speech was rather funny. Bilbo? Married ? ? Wouldn't that have been a sight! The Brandybuck could not help but smirk, though he was careful enough to stifle laughter.
