queencfheart:
It was a new territory, to lay next to him with clothes on and no intentions to take them off. Her body was aching out of exhaustion and while she enjoyed pleasure mixed with pain, this wasn’t the type of pain she sought from him. She always told herself that she only wanted one thing from him, all she needed from him was bruises after a violent argument and equally violent sex. It was all he was good for but that moment in the shower caused a chain reaction with too much for her to handle. Her need for him, that had been purely sexual, had shifted without giving her the chance to prevent it. It was why she had stomped over to him after her jail visit and why she wasn’t shouting at him now. Something was changing.
“Exciting,” she teased with a smile on her lips. It was a very them scenario and one that made more sense than whatever this was, whatever it was inside that enjoyed their intertwined fingers. “I think I would’ve told them to take you with them. Big scary man yelling in my beautiful face — off with his head.” It was definitely what she would have done considering what had happened the last time they saw each other but she didn’t have time to think back when his words caught her off guard. Don’t know why I stayed. She didn’t want to go there, it made her nervous and Scarlet was never nervous. Still, her hand grasped his harder when he tried to pull away. “I woke up before you had time to raid my liquor cabinet, that’s why.”
The tightened grip around his hand made Hunter’s brow furrow, but rather out of confusion than anything else. They had somehow developed their own unspoken language and what he could communicate from the squeeze of his hand was that she wanted him to stay. He knew trying to decipher why that was would have been beyond him, hell, he knew that even if he’d asked her she wouldn’t know either which was why their communication stayed silent. It was easier that way, and they didn’t have to make sense of it or question it. It just was, and so were they.
Her usual jest that would have led to playful banter didn’t fall on deaf ears, but he for once found himself not sure of what to say. To play along made such normality out of the situation that he wasn’t sure if it was safe to do so - how could he handle this being normal when it was so far from it? He simply followed his gut despite his head trying to interfere, letting go of her hand this time but only to move his arm around her and pull her in to him. “Speaking of liquor, we should have a drink to get you back on your feet.” It would probably have the opposite effect on most people but with Hunter he tended to drink before doing most things nowadays. “But not yet.” He added quietly, softly even, as he pulled her closer.
