There is absolutely no reason why the Mask should take him seriously- even on the off chance he's not just a kid playing dress up and has a real death ray he's hiding somewhere (hey, it could happen) it won't have much of an effect on a literally invulnerable trickster.

You know the amazing thing about watching The Mask 20 years after it was made is that the computer effects looking really dated by today's standards actually works in the film's favour because it makes everything seem more like a living cartoon.
