Predictions of dark forces being unleashed by an evil vixen hung over social media in Japan on Monday after a famous volcanic rock said to kill anyone who comes into contact with it was found split in two.

According to the mythology surrounding the Sessho-seki, or killing stone, the object contains the transformed corpse of Tamamo-no-Mae, a beautiful woman … Legend has it that her true identity was an evil nine-tailed fox whose spirit is embedded in the hunk of lava, located in an area of Tochigi.

Great excitement was evident in the opulant coral filled castle, colors gleaming like jewels in the sun. Every fish and citizen of his kingdom was overjoyed, watching as the little mermaid was guided by Ryujin's handmaidens to the throne room.

"His Majesty, the Great August Ruler of the Sea, Ryujin-sama, I humbly introduce to you--" One maiden introduced, before the king waved a humanoid hand.

"Yes, I know of you. You are the daughter of King Triton of Atlantica. His youngest princess. Come closer, child."

Within the mountain pass, the air was thin, perhaps thinner than most humans were used to. While one could become acclimated to the air here over time, it had to be disorienting for the weary traveler.

This particular mountain, the townspeople at the base had warned Cal, was cursed. A spirit lingered there, stealing away naughty children and returning them in a fit of insanity they often never recovered from.

Yet others had claimed the spirit was but a weary old bird, wanting to keep his territory free of mischief and rabble of the young.

The truth was somewhere in between. The Tengu gazed down upon the human, head tilted, repeatedly changing angles, beak clicking in soft confused tsks.

Finally, a human voice croaked-- old but surprisingly deep,

"You are a gifted swordsman, that much I can tell! But you are inexperienced!"

Another kind of desert-- The sands of his homeland traded for the deep, unyielding frost and snow. Only the great gales of wind could be heard in the stillness that this frozen tundra held.

Airin was completely alone out here. All the animals had hidden themselves away in warm burrows and hidey-holes, others taking shelter in warmer temperatures away from this land.

Only one creature was here. Watching. Waiting. Dancing on the snowy breath itself, cold, uncaring eyes cast upon the felidae...

The townspeople were restless. Something strange was lurking in their village, leaving behind strange mementos and wreaking havoc in their wake.

The culprit was a strange, furry creature- not quite canine, not quite raccoon either. It wore a large gingko leaf upon its head as it moved through the crowd, before seemingly sprouting several feet above...

And taking the appearance of a man with a yellow hat similar to the gingko leaf. He ducked into a nearby shop, tricky fingers searching for something to pickpocket from the foods laid out....

Nobody could explain where the cat had come from. But they couldn't shoo it away either.

No, the white long haired cat seemed perfectly content to wander the halls of the palace, avoiding any brooms swiped their way, any flailing limbs. It was found in inexplicable places as well-- as if able to teleport from space to space.

The cat knew every hidden spot. And that was how it had come upon the maiden, trotting on silent feet before rubbing up against her ankles.

A purring-mrrp left the feline, elegant feather-duster tail swishing back and forth. It wanted attention.

There were whispers of a woman at the basin of a waterfall who could weave all matter of spells. Someone who was gobbling helpless men up, night after night, leaving their poor fiancées and wives behind.

Though, sometimes, the strange woman also went after those of her own gender.

The Jorogumo had taken on her usual disguise, magic weaved with many webs to keep her spider body hidden. She watched the intruder to her territory try to climb the slippery falls...

And when they nearly tumbled over the edge, a pale hand lashed out, grasping them by the wrist.

A long, deep inhale, hands delicately moving along the sides of the tea cup. The kitsune was careful, not wanting to disturb the delicate process of the ceremony. Especially not with such an important guest in her court.

The room was silent, minus the faint hiss of the incense crackling nearby. Every now and then, quiet footsteps would shuffle past their door, but would not enter. Nobody dared to disturb this concubine when she was at work.

There were whispers of Tamamo-no-Mae's true identity. That she was a witch, or a kitsune in disguise. Slowly poisoning the Emperor. But that remained to be seen.

For now, she just smiled slightly at the visitor, pouring tea for them while also delicately holding her long, intricately patterned sleeve away.

"Please allow the tea to settle before sipping. You'll want the best flavor profile, believe me." Tamamo-no-Mae hummed.

i watched a movie called "monster heaven: ghost hero" last night, and i took a ton of screenshots because look at it: it's an absolute aesthetic treat.

there's something for everyone to enjoy in these shots, i think: a demon samurai, a clear plastic jacket, lots of good lighting, the amiga 500, a giant woman, a tanuki that communicates with guitar solos, and more~
