CHAPTER 6: THE UNVEILED TRUTH
In the darkness of a building designed to look abandoned. A warehouse unused, lifeless, purposeless. Everything about it was built to mirror its owner.
Inside sat someone who was lost. Not because she didn’t know where home was, but because she didn’t know what home is.
In the middle of the barren structure, stripped of furniture and comfort alike, sat the one who, just days ago, had been the center of everything, the star of the show, the one meant to own it all. Unphased, the cold that seeped from the marble floor.
She watched from before a glowing holographic display. Observing, Studying… her.
The crinkle in her eyes when she smiled too brightly. The way her nose scrunched with every passing emotion. Slightly crooked teeth. A laugh too loud, too sharp. Always getting awkward at the wrong moments. Why does she keep touching her ear like that? Why does she walk like that? Why does she look at the sky so often? Her eyes, they keep widening; they might pop out of their sockets at this rate. What does she even see in this place? This barren wasteland of code.
And those fools—fawning over her like she was a blessing sent from above. Clinging to every soft word, intoxicated by her voice, her presence. How revolting.
She isn’t even perceptive enough to see what’s right in front of her. The pauses. The evasions. The shifting tone. Has she realized anything about her reality at all, let alone what it means in the grand design?
Ridiculous. She was flawed, awkward, foolish, and stupid…and alive…and…perfect.
This time, she stands behind the scenes. Is this what it feels like…to play with someone as something? To reshape them in your image? To write a destiny and then bend it at will for your own amusement?
That’s what she was told, at least. The player controls the game and everyone inside it.
But she isn’t the player. She’s only a character. A so‑called main character. The MC.
And she’d be a fool to believe she could control her, not the way she wants to. Still, she will try.
Y/N will live the life she once envied—and suffer for it.
CHAPTER 7: THE HEAVENLY ILLUSION
The masses can argue all they want about the divine and the afterlife, but you…Oh, you were in heaven for sure.
On a private beach, with clear sky, refreshing water, a generous spread of your favourite food on a giant table, and surrounded by a merman, a dragon, a cyborg, and the god of annihilation, apparently all vying for your attention. If this isn't your custom-made personal heaven, you don't know what it is.
So….how did you end up here?
Yes, besides the whole accident thingy, we don't think about that too much, not when abs are being flaunted, and biceps are flexed right in your face. Shining so bright that they put Edward Cullen to shame.
Again, how did you get here in this exact position? Let's take several steps back to clear skies and a picnic spread.
Zayne had decided you needed to be under open sky and fresh air. It had been a week since the arcade day, and you were feeling depressed because you could not find a single trace of Sel; therefore, not a single clue to the mystery surrounding your sudden appearance in your beloved game world. Everything was going great: Xavier had picked you up, Sylus had booked the resort, Caleb brought food, Zayne was the unpaid babysitter, and Rafayel was in charge of planning entertainment. A smooth, structured plan.
After you all gathered at the designated spot and settled down outside the cozy huts, it was time to change. They changed, all of them in swimming trunks. You tried not to stare, but you were only human. Then again, how can they expect you not to stare when they all did it just for you…seriously Caleb definitely bent down twice right in front of you on purpose, and Zayne definitely did not need to put that much sunscreen; he was glistening far too much for your sanity. And Xavier kept lifting heavy things, moving them here and there for absolutely no reason.
Rafayel both lounged in a rather provocative way, his smooth white skin with pink hues looking a little too breathtaking. Sylus even went as far as cracking a coconut casually to offer it to you, acting all cool.
You were sure to get a nosebleed with the current display, so you got up, “okay i should go change too…” you said, and suddenly they were all alerted.
You had no idea they would all be coming with a swimsuit for you, along with them, that too from the summer banner. That is where things started to go downhill.
“Oh come on, we all know she likes this one the best, it was the first one she bought and took pictures with,” Rafayel claimed, holding the two-piece dress out. “Oh please, we all know it was a pity spend because she felt so bad about how ugly it is,” Caleb rolled his eyes. “Mine is better he said, holding out the red one-piece. “It's cute and modest, would keep her safe from you guys’ creepy eyes,” he said earning a scoff from everyone.
“Says the biggest creep,” Xavier muttered.
Rafayel smirked, “yeah it is modest cuz this is for when you go to the beach with your bro-”
“Shut up before I gut you like a fish.”
Zayne cleared his throat, not liking Caleb’s explicit threats, “mind your language in front of Y/N. Also, in terms of swimwear, it is a fact that mine is by far much better suited for it as it is more comfortable for mobility, tastefully modest, and stylish,” he concluded with a nod.
“What's with you two and modesty? We are at the beach, not a convent,” Sylus scoffed. Rafayel gave him a dirty look, “What would you know about modesty, you indecent lizard, I mean, why did you even bother wearing a swimming trunk when it's that tight, like why are your dick veins that visible?” he said, pointing directly at it.
Sylus only looked smug. “Jealous now are we? Or do you want me to give you a better look, scales?” he said, causing the lemurian’s cheek to flush. “As if I’d be interested in anything remotely associated with you, and who are you calling scales? Last I checked, dragons have scales too,” he pointed it out.
“Well, mine are better, stronger.” Sylus replied. The argument was agitating Zayne before he could speak, Caleb interrupted.
“Both of you animals need to stop this dick-measuring contest… literally and figurativelly” he said, crossing his arms. Before poor Zayne could agree, Caleb continued. “Obviously, she would not like scales at all; they are rough, she likes something strong but smooth, like metal,” he said proudly, making Zayne facepalm.
Xavier only shook his head, “I think she would prefer human skin and not any of that freakish stuff.” he turned towards you and smiled, taking all your attention. “They won't end their bickering till the end of time, which in our world doesn't really exist,” he said, putting his two-piece in your hand. “You should go and change now, little star,” he said, and one of the guys inhaled sharply, “this little punk.”
“Guys!! You interrupted. I brought my own swimwear, okay,” you said, yes, you had packed your own, some shorts and a crop top, just to refrain from something like this happening. You had picked them out from the clothes they had gifted you during your time you had been here. “ I won't be needing any of that,” you said, already turning away to go change. Hopefully, they will stop arguing when you come back, right???
Because by the time you get back, the topic of the discussion was very different.
“Obviously,” Rafayel scoffs, arms crossed, “if we’re discussing aesthetics, my myth form is objectively superior.”
Sylus snorts. “Mermaid glitter doesn’t count as superiority.”
“It’s merman,” Rafayel corrects sharply.
Caleb rolled his eyes. “You both are so ancient, we are living in modern times, we should embrace technology, not…mythical creature nonsense, it's so overdone.”
Xavier folds his arms. “You are all missing the point. All of you are unrealistic and outlandish, a king, however, is a fascinating concept; it's closer to reality, regal and with immeasurable power.”
Zayne adjusts his glasses. “This is unnecessary,” he said, “but if we are to discuss immeasurable powers, can you even afford to stand and argue with the master of fates and God of annihilation?”
“ We are talking about her favorite myths, not all of them, because then you know we can AND will kick your ass given the chance, Doc.” Caleb said.
You blink between them. “How did we go from swimsuits to myth supremacy? And my favourite ones I don't have fave-”
“Don’t lie, kitten. you do and you know it” Sylus smirked.
You swallowed. That was the problem. You did. And you had opinions. Which you were absolutely not about to voice.
Before you could redirect the conversation, Rafayel stood. “Looks like I really have to show you what real majesty looks like.”
Rafayel: Lemurian Sea God
The ocean responds before he even steps in. The tide shifts unnaturally still. The wind quiets.
When the water touches his ankles, it welcomes the one who commands it. Silver light begins to bleed beneath the surface, spreading like liquid moonlight.
You had to take a seat to witness something like that because you were too shocked to function.
He doesn’t look back. The moment the water reaches his knees, it climbs him instead, wrapping and enveloping him; the shimmering silver initiates the change.
Scales shimmer into existence, iridescent, opalescent blues and lavender catching sunlight like shattered diamonds. Pink and blue intricate designs form on his upper half.
His legs dissolve into a powerful tail, vast and elegant, the fin unfurling like silk banners beneath the tide. Water spirals upward around his torso, forming a throne of moving waves. His hair darkens, growing longer, more lustrous, streaked with luminous silver, glimmering. A tendril of water rises from the ocean, taking the shape of a shpe of trident.
When he opens his eyes…They are no longer soft.
Deep-sea blue burning bright. Endless. Commanding.
A crown of translucent coral and crystallized salt forms above his brow.
The Lemurian sea God is awakened.
You could only stare in awe.
Sylus exhales sharply behind you. “Oh, we’re doing that now?”
You turned to him and gulped as the shadow beneath him stretched abnormally.
Heat creeps into the air.
Sylus rolls his shoulder, loosening tension. The sand beneath his boots cracks. A low, resonant rumble vibrates through your ribs as blackened scales begin to crawl up his arms like living armor. Crimson fractures glow beneath his skin, in the middle of the chest, a single aether pulsed to life, glowing in hues of molten amber.
His right eye glowed. Black marking spirals on his skin. Wings tear outward from his back in a burst of ash and ember; enormous, leathery, spanning wide and bat-like. The sky darkens slightly, clouds curling inward as if wary.
A horned shadow frames his face, sharp and regal. While two of them grow on his head, a crown for the cursed. When he flexes his hand, sparks rain to the ground like dying stars.
He does not smile. He warns. The air smells of smoke and something ancient.
“Guess we’re going full banner showcase.”
Caleb: Ultimate Weapon X-02
The sound begins as a mechanical hum.
Panels of light split across his skin, lines of neon circuitry illuminating under the surface.
His right arm shifts first. metal folding outward, restructuring, transforming into a sleek, black weaponized limb.
His eye flickers. Then recalibrates as a sli visor covers them a small orange symbol at the corner of the visor glows.
Panels of light snapped into existence around him like a digital halo. Armor assembled piece by piece over his body, fusing to become one with his body, his pecks and abs defined over them. seamless and mechanical, lines of electric orange racing along the joints. Energy blades materialized on his forearms. Two flaps cascade down either side.
The ocean reflection catches the chrome plating along his collarbone and ribs, machinery seamlessly fused with flesh. The sleek black
Holographic projections snap into existence behind him, wings made of shifting data streams.
He tilts his head. A small smirk on his lips
The ultimate weapon had assembled
Your brain short-circuits, and you let out a small croaked unintelligent sound.
“What was that, pipsqueak?”
Xavier: King of Darknight
The temperature drops. A shift that caused you to shudder.
Light gathers around him, not bright, but heavy, almost tangible.
Dark armor materializes piece by piece over his body, ornate and battle-worn. A long crimson cape unfurls behind him, moving in wind that does not exist. His hair grows long, turning him from a sweet-looking guy to a ferocious, battle-hardened man. Xavier raises his hand.
The sky parts and crackled a beam of dark light descends from heaven, blade forms in his hand, radiant, carved with celestial script. His usual softness disappears. In its place stands something solemn. Something that has seen empires burn. A halo of dim light hovers behind his head, materializing into a crown.
Behold, The king of DarkLight.
You are seconds away from collapsing.
Zayne: God of Annihilation
Space bends and reshapes into a ruinc pattern, and from it a cloak emerges, wrapping around him as if to trap him, only to melt into an archaic attire oozing divine splendor. Gold patterns form on his shoulder, forearms, and feet, making him look otherworldly. His glasses had dissolved into a thin, sheer blindfold that veiled his eyes.
Symbols orbit his body. Till a bow and arrow appear in his hands readyto destroy anything and everything in its wake once aimed and shot. Reality distorts around his fingertips. Where he steps, the sand crystallizes.
And he looks at you as if you are the only thing anchoring him from destroying it.
The God of annihilation had arrived.
And you…yes…you, my dear lovely reader. Stood there in your croptop, shorts, and pink flower flip flops. Holding up a handkerchief to your nose because, yes, yes, that was blood.
Zayne was obviously the first one to notice and shatter the silence, “You got a nosebleed…from that?” he sounded half amused half accusing. Caleb, however, was delighted.
“Of sucking course, she gets a nosebleed, you see this ass?” he ask smacking his own butt.
“Scrumptious,” he grinned.
You finally burst out laughing…all that tension evaporating from your system.
Do you have shame? Yes, a considerable amount.
Do you have it right now? Nope. None at all.
After having a very detailed “observation” of them all, checking out their weapons one by one, Sylus gives you a brief ride in the sky, his strong arms wrapped around you as he soared through the sky. He felt so warm…and safe. The rest of them looked up from below, their jealous gazes fueling his arrogance. “Hmph, look at those idiots.”
Nestled against his chest, you counted, there were three of them. Zayne, Xavier, and Rafayel…where was Caleb?
Just then, something blurred past you, soundless but dark. Before you know it, Caleb stole you mid-air like a kid stealing another kid's favourite toy and running away gleefully. Prying you away from Sylus, arms into his own embrace. “He ain't the only one who can fly, ya know,” he smirks.
You were now sitting by the shore, Rafayel curled around you as Xavier dug a hole with his sword. Offering you more wet sand to help you construct a big life-size sand castle.
And yes, all the guys were helping. Some more than the others.
“Rafayel, get up and help like the rest of us,” Zayne scolded.
“Can't, dun hav legs,” Rafayel replied lazily, his tail swaying left and right.
“Doesn't give you the excuse to sit around looking pretty.”
Zayne could only take a deep breath as he went back to the sand castle. Both Caleb and Sylus were flying, fixing the top of the castle.
“Done!” You jumped to your feet and rushed the castle being buil near by. You hold out your arm, and Sylus comes and picks you up, taking you to the tallest tower that was at least 8 feet tall, and that's where you perched your makeshift flag, a territory conquered.
“Great work, you guys!” you said, beaming as you entered through the sand door. It had some space to walk a few paces. “Gosh, this is like a dream come true.”
“If you like this little star, wait till I show you my castle in philos” Xavier said, taking your hand and kissing it.
“I can buy you a castle, kitten.”
“I will build one with my bare hands, pipsqueak.”
‘I don't think she needs that many castles...”
“Boo! Who let the boring guy talk? Don't listen to him, cutie. Lemurian castle will blow you away.”
You took a deep breath. “no i like this castle more because we made it together, so it means a lot more to me,” you said.
Syulus chuckled, “You know exactly what to say to keep us in line, huh?”
Caleb landed right behind you puling you in a hug. “yeah pips gettin real good at handling us... all at once,” he spoke the last part in your ear, and your stomach flipped at the innuendo. Heat crept to your cheek, flushing it red.
Before you could even forma thought, zaynes bare chest was in front of you. “You are too touchy with her,” he said disapprovingly. “Maybe you are not touchy enough,” Caleb said, not moving an inch. His face buried in the crook of your neck, “he is the most frustrated one out of all of us…trust me,” he whispered loud enough for everyone to hear. Making them all chuckle, and poor Zayne was flustered, “It's called having restraint.” he said, peeling you away from caleb and this time he lets go easily.
You felt bad and rubbed his chest. “It's okay zaynie…he is just kidding.” The action was intended to soothe him, but he only blushed harder. Under your palm, you felt his heart beating faster, and for a second, you swore it synced to the rhythm of yours.
You quickly pulled it away, stepping out of the damn castle. Meeting eyes with 3 other jealous men who were very visibly feeling left out already. “ ehm as I was saying, thank you so much for helping with this, I really could not have done it without you guys using your…powers to help me make it. Which I understand is kind of a lame use of such cool superpowers.”
“Please, if it made you happy, it was the most meaningful use of our abilities,” Sylus said, patting your head with his claw-like hand. “More like first ever,” Xavier corrected as he sat on a big rock and pulled you in his lap.
“Though I must say rafayel doesnt deserve a thanks, he barely did anything besides lying in water,” he added pettily.
“Excuse me i helped! I helped make all the seashell necklaces you guys are wearing and all the decor for the castle,” Rafayel exasperates.
“See i told ya, he is only good for decorative purposes.” Caleb snorted.
“Yeah, the water particles quiver in your presence,” Sylus said, mostly to egg him on further.
The moment he said it, the waves got a bit rough. Sensing the tension once again, you jumped into action. “Alrighty i am gonna go in and bring everyone drinks, so no one better be dead when I come back,” you said, rushing towards the resort. One of them mumbled, “I wish they could die…” butyou were far enough to not be bothered with scolding them. Though you did turn back and call out, “oh and change back. I had my fun, thank you!”
The sound of their bickering died down as they changed back, lounging on their respective spots. Finally relaxing.
Inside the resort hut, you were busy making the drinks for them by the kitchen window when suddenly, some movements caught your eye. You looked out and in the near distance stood a figure, a tall, slender woman-like, her skin though smooth was a dreary shade of grey. She was faceless, no eyes, nose, or mouth. For a second, you almost screamed, thinking it was a wanderer, but no, it wasn't. Something told you it was her…
“Sel is that-” you started in a voice loud enough for her, but were interrupted.
“Don't call me that ridiculous name, that's not who I am.”
You stiffened, not because of the harshness of her tone. But because the voice had rang inyour head. The woman had no mouth, and yet she spoke crystal clear.
“Surprised?” the voice rang in your head mockingly, “surprised I can speak without you controlling me.”
You stumbled back, “What are you-”
“A little birdy told me you were looking for me. Good, it's about time we had a little chat ms. player”
“hey star, we heard your voice. Were you talking to somebody? Or were you calling me?" Xavier entered, looking around instantly noticing something was wrong, followed by Caleb, he was wet as he had been surfing, shaking his head to dry off his hair, “yo pips, those drinks better be damn delicious for you to take this much ti-” he noticed the glasses and broken jug, and that was all it took them to completely switch to serious mode.
“I'll track her movements, go alert the others, we got no time to spare,” Caleb said gravely. Xavier, without arguing, turned and left, leaving Caleb alone. “ damn it, MC…”
