I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with

But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. Hi! I’m currently reading your sidgeno fic from 2011 and am really enjoying it. I read a number of your recent posts on hrpf and from a few years ago, and I completely respect your decision to no longer write it, for a whole host of reasons you’ve mentioned. (I say this as someone who knows very little (but enough to understand why you wanted to stop) about hockey and for whom hrpf has existed only as a category for me to scroll past on ao3 until very recently when i fell down the sidgeno rabbit hole— it was a whole thing). But I just wanted to let you know that im so delighted to discover and read them even 15 years later. There’s no expiration date on your ability to move me! And i always want to let people know when ive enjoyed a work of theirs from waaaay early on in the backlist. :)

BUT. as much as the fandom pisses me off, i did also meet my wife through hockey fandom way back in 2013, she plays women's rec hockey and we did figure skating lessons together, and the carolina hurricanes are my #1 follow them forever to the ends of the earth team. all of which is to say, as time passes and i get older and seasons come and go and all that, i appreciate the past that wore its grooves into me, the memories i made, the friendships both kept and ended, all of that. and i am very happy that my fic made you happy. so thank you <3333
