Champion reveal their spring/summer ’16 collection.
Taking inspiration from 90s Americana and the “blue-skied” power campaigns of that era, Champion headed to world-renowned space-like backdrop of Dungeness National Nature Reserve. The protected area is patrolled by armed guards and is home to only a handful of residents – many of who are noted creative themselves. Littered with driftwood sheds and derelict boats, the area is a favourite of photographers the world over.
This season, Champion uses clean whites and spectrum of nostalgic pastels and bold branding. Stars and flag colours feature throughout, using the synonymous Reverse Weave fabric as its canvas.
Having been a pivotal influencer in sportswear and popular culture for nearly 100 years, Champion returns for Spring/Summer ’16 with a selection of staple sweats, t-shirts, joggers, jackets and accessories.
Established in 1919, Champion is noted for creating the first-ever hooded sweatshirt in the 1930s – originally created for labourers working in the freezing warehouses of upstate New York – in addition to pioneering the first athletic sports bra in 1977 and the iconic Reverse Weave fabric back in 1938. Champion’s patented Reverse Weave technology uses a heavier, higher quality cotton, which ensures the garments avoid vertical shrinkage, eliminates stretching and promises years of durability.
Over the last few seasons, Champion has collaborated with heavyweights such as SUPREME, WOOD WOOD and STUSSY, in addition to the long-standing collaboration with Todd Snyder NY. Nearer to home, Champion has been working with creative agency and magazine LAW, along with a host of other leading creative and influencers. The brand is now working on 2016, and has some amazing projects in the pipeline.
