Nope (2022)
Yes liberals, you can demand better.
A lot of liberals in the following months will lash out wildly at everything and you will see leftists such as myself stand on a high ground for being proven right yet again. I don't want to act like a gloating camp sitter and I think anyone who has repeated the inevitable out come of this election that wants to take this time to say "I told you so!" Needs to reevaluate what it is they're actually doing.
I want every woman who had their abortion rights stolen from them to look past the blatant misogyny from the reactionary right or whatever excuse the democrats come up with to move the narrative along to something else and remember the reality. Kamala Harris ran a terrible campaign and said all along the way that "Democracy is on the line" "Your rights are on the line." and now i'm writing this as trump is not only being confirmed the predicted winner but has also WON THE POPULAR VOTE. How could a party lose both the electoral college and popular vote and tell themselves and their base that they gave it their all, that they ran like your rights were on the line and they really did care to save them? The Last time the popular vote was won by a republican was Bush after 9/11 and spending 3 years revving up the reactionary hatred towards muslims as a result.
Kamala Harris is a failure. The democratic party is a failure. Because of their incompetency, you still don't have your rights. You didn't need to settle for "harm reduction" and you still don't. You can demand a candidate who wont spend your money glazing Liz Cheney and seriously thinking that will win them the election. Incompetent failures don't deserve your vote just because they've become comfortable you'll give it to them regardless. Kamala Harris targeted a voter who doesn't exist for 6 months and lost you your chance at getting your fundamental rights back because of it. She doesn't deserve a pat on the back or a "it was close", she deserves to be remembered as running one of the worst campaigns in US history and you don't need to find an excuse for the democratic party incompetence. Get mad at them because they failed you.
If you want to point your anger at anyone, point it at the incompetent, lazy, party of people who have gotten comfortable for 15 years now with just needing to say "harm reduction" and expect you to settle for whatever they give you.
It wasn't the "tankies" or the rampant misogyny of the patriarchal structures we're under currently that dropped the ball against an 80 year old convicted felon running simply to avoid a prison sentence. It was the party that expects you to settle for even worse in 4 years because they've never been pressured to purge the failures they share a table with and give you a candidate that tries to secure your rights.
Please remember these 6 months for the rest of your life. Please remember them whenever the democratic party are calling leftist protestors "spoilers" or someone is demanding you vote for harm reduction. Please remember when this party demands your vote for the person they want to be in charge next no matter how out of touch their campaign is, Donald Trump won the popular vote in 2024.

i don’t know who needs to hear this but learning about disability justice will make you love yourself more. even if you don’t have a disability. training yourself with ideas of radical acceptance and celebration of all ability levels will help you treat yourself with patience and compassion because at the end of the day everyone has limitations. a rising tide lifts all boats
also, even if you don’t consider yourself disabled now, you can acquire a disability at any time in your life. you could develop arthritis in 40 years or you could get a concussion tomorrow. doing the work now to uplift and support disabled people around you and fight for disability justice will make you feel less helpless if you do acquire a disability later. fighting for disability justice is not only a moral human imperative, it’s so good for your soul and inner peace as well

I can't keep having the same conversations about love languages, mbti, iq, bmi, "brain fully formed at 25" and shit over and over again...
these things exist on a spectrum from untrue to straightforwardly racist btw. so if we could retire them forever that'd be nice.
“Love Languages” are just common couples therapy techniques mangled and repackaged by an unqualified homophobe. Relationships generally need all 5 love languages to be fulfilled, which is to say, everybody needs to communicate with, spend time with, and do things for their partners, and that’s got nothing to do with any special way you communicate affection.
MBTI has been proven completely ineffective at predicting anyone’s success at a particular job, and half the people who take it twice will get different results. Reputable psychologists do not recognize it, and the company that owns the rights to it uses it to scam people. People don’t adhere to strict binaries in basically anything. Very few people are going to be exclusively introverted or extroverted. It’s just astrology repackaged as pseudoscience. Shockingly enough, you can’t boil the complexity of the human experience down to a dozen Types of Guy.
The concept of IQ is flawed from the start— “intelligence” is an abstract concept that encompasses many different skills, from social intelligence to emotional intelligence to the very narrow kind of problem solving intelligence IQ tests generally measure for. It cannot predict how fast you learn, how much you know, or how logical and well read you are. It mostly measures how good you are at solving puzzles. Coincidentally, it’s also a pretty good predictor of income and education level, take a guess why. Most people’s IQ will change throughout their lives, because it’s inconsistent bullshit we’ve only held onto this long because we’re still kinda hoping we can breed the ubermensch. IQ tests and the way they attempt to categorize people are explicitly eugenicist and racist.
BMI was developed by a man known as the grandfather of eugenics, who first of all was a mathematician, not a doctor, and second never intended the formula to be used to categorize individuals. It’s intended to give a rough estimate of obesity in populations, and it’s not even good at that. It hangs around because of fatphobia and insurance companies who want it as an excuse to charge fat people more.
The study which determined people’s prefrontal cortex was still developing at 25… stopped measuring at 25. Evidence suggests your brain probably never stops developing. Stop infantilizing grown adults. This is a branch off from the larger mess of misinformation surrounding fMRIs.
If you haven’t put together what all these things have in common yet, here’s the moral of the story: STOP TRYING TO CATEGORIZE PEOPLE. STOP TRYING TO PUT PEOPLE IN A GODDAMN BIOLOGICAL HIERARCHY. EUGENICS IS BAD, AND WILL ALWAYS BE BAD, NO MATTER WHO’S DOING IT.
do genuinely find it fascinating how indeed.com is like the biggest job-hunting website out there and yet manages to be profoundly useless in every possible way
i apply for a job. i never hear back.
i search for "entry level jobs". i am shown listings for things like "military intelligence officer", "senior veterinary surgeon", and "forklift engineer".
i search for "jobs in bookselling". i am told that there are 9 bookselling jobs in my area. when i read the listings, 8 of these 9 jobs are care assistant roles and the 9th is a pyramid scheme.
i search for "jobs within 5 miles of my location". i am shown jobs that are on the other side of the country.
i type in "proofreading". i am shown listings for "ai training".
i search "creative industry jobs". half the listings are for finance companies and the other half require a degree in data science.
i receive an email. "based on your profile, indeed thought you would be a great match for this opportunity!" the linked job requires a degree that i do not have and 5 years of experience in a field that i know nothing about. the email does not explain why this opportunity would be "a great match".
i receive an email. "based on your profile, indeed thought you would be a great match for this opportunity!" underneath, in the body of the emaill, it warns me that i will not be able to apply for the job it has sent me because i do not meet the criteria.
i apply for a job with a temp agency. i never hear back. 2 weeks later the agency website goes down and never comes back up again.
i apply for a job. 6 months later i get a stock email telling me my application has been unsuccessful.
i apply for a job. i never hear back.
indeed (and most job sites) absolutely suck but im a veteran of their bullshit so here are the tips i can offer to you
take advantage of indeed's tools and configurations. i know this sounds condescending but theyre easy to miss. when you search for a job, you can make a pre-set configuration of job search filters on the top of the UI for a search. this allows you to edit for location, how much it pays, education required, etc. indeed will save this configuration and you can just click on it every time you go
indeed also allows you to completely remove a company from results. this is very useful for the "ai training" listings, which spam up editorial jobs at any level. click the three dot button on the job listing, then "not interested" on browser, or the thumbs down icon on mobile. this will give you the option to completely remove that company from future searches. you can also hide specific job titles and pay rates.
MAKE SURE YOUR RESUME IS ATS OPTIMIZED. I cannot stress this enough. ATS is the automated system most companies use to parse resumes and sift through hundreds of apps. if it's not able to parse, you'll get auto rejected nearly every time -- this happened to me for weeks before i changed mine. Try to keep it to one page and keep it plain if you're not a designer. Resume dot com has ATS-friendly templates you can use for free.
Make your resume bullets achievement-focused and use numbers. Don't just say what you did. Say what you accomplished. Instead of "Managed morning shift at Kroeger," put "Managed 12 cashiers in a fast-paced retail environment." Instead of "drove delivery trucks," write "Drove over 30 daily deliveries across three states." Use whatever resources you have at your disposal to punch up what you did. Brag a little. "Was named employee of the month for June 2023 through August 2023," "Turned around [x number] of deliverables in [time] for [project]." This is probably the biggest mistake people make with resumes.
Have a cover letter template that you can easily tweak for your desired job. Lots of places will ignore your app without a cover letter, but they're time-consuming and annoying extra work -- in my experience, slightly tweaking a standard template will do just fine and save you energy.
don't bother with the indeed emails theyre bullshit, just unsub lol
again, I hope this doesn't sound condescending -- I say this stuff because I made all of these exact mistakes a billion times before other people gave me this advice, and it's worked wonders for me. I hope it helps, sincerely.
there’s a guy in my neighborhood with a cyber truck and i see him standing around it sometimes in the morning and when i do i always make it a point to walk right by him and then start checking out the completely normal car next to it. and the second or third time he shot me a look that said “i know what you’re doing motherfucker”. absolute best moment of that week.
There's a guy with a cybertruck in my small ass rural southern town, and there's a private local facebook page where all the country guys with jacked up pickups (or any pickup actually capable of doing hauling and work) just park directly beside it to take pictures making fun of how small and inferior the cybertruck is to any real truck and it pisses the guy off SO bad
GENUINELY genuinely some of you are letting teenagers on tiktok bother you wayyyy too much for people who claim that theyre too old to use the app. if you were a #REALCODGER like me you would watch 1 tiktok video a month via your friends sending you one and having to open the completely defunct website version by sliding the vase puzzle piece into the picture 5 times before it lets you in

"That sounds like a good idea......."-"Is there something bothering you with the idea?"-"No, the idea is GOOD.....🙂"
Can someone explain this to me?
Old people use quotation marks to indicate emphasis, as a substitute for italics (which many of them could not produce on the old typewriters they learned to write on), whereas young people use them to indicate sarcasm or falseness. They’re used as “scare quotes”.
And old people use ellipses simply to indicate a pause, or for some other incomprehensible reason I’m not aware of. But young people use ellipses to indicate passive-aggression.
So an old person could type something like:
how are things going with your “boyfriend”….
and what they mean is
How are things going with your boyfriend? [Im so excited for you, sweetie, and I wanna hear about it]
But a young person would interpret that sentence as
How are things going with your so-called boyfriend…. [I say, while seething with contempt for him and possibly for you too]
The linguistic difference across generations is beautifully explained here thank you
perhaps the antidote to overconsumption is thankfulness. I am thankful for one notebook at a time and I am thankful for the coffee and tea I have at my house and I am thankful for the books I havent read yet and im thankful for these clothes I can make so many outfits with
