Lilo and Stitch presenting an accurate representation of Hawaiians perspective on luaus held by tourists.
#what’s sad about this is that this is actually what Hawaiians had to do when the western culture took over #a luau was a sacred practice #until the westerners took the concept and had the audacity to change it into a time to stuff your face with food and put on grass skirts and coconut bras and dance the hula #and when they had these events, they didn’t even let actual Hawaiian people in #so to make money to take care of themselves, the Hawaiians were hired to work in these disgraceful events to clean up after the tourists like slaves only to make less than a buck #so good job disney for doing your fucking research and educating these people #sadly, this still goes on even until today and it makes me sick
“good job disney” my ass, good job CHRIS SANDERS
Let’s not credit just Chris Sanders for this. This happened because they cast actual Hawaiian Actors like Tia Carrere and Jason Scott Lee to play Hawaiian characters, and allowed the actors to have input into writing the characters’ lines.
This sort of authenticity comes from accuracy and authenticity in casting choices. The fact that Chris Sanders as direct/writer facilitated that does not mean he gets credit for the actors’ experience.
This is why diversity and representation in media matters.
Dude as a hawaiian, this is like straight up what my life as a kid was. My mom worked at those fakey luaus full time to pay rent. My mom is someone who is absolutely passionate and proud about being a hawaiian, living and teaching the ways our ancestors lived and taught. See, we Hawaiians, we live by the way of aloha. And not by the way of “hello” “goodbye”, let me educate you. As Pono Shim, CEO and President of Enterprise Honolulu, the Oahu Economic Development Board, states absolutely perfectly “aloha is to be in the presence of life, to share the essence of one’s being with openness, honesty, and humility. It is a way of being, a way of behaving, a way of life. It is a commitment to accepting others and giving dignity to who they are and what they have to offer.” Aloha is more than hello and goodbye. Think of aloha as an abbreviation. Akahai: meaning kindness Lokahi: meaning unity Olu’Olu’: meaning agreeableness Ha’aha’a: meaning humility Ahonui: meaning patience This is something we all need to live by, seriously, we all should
the dropped sub-plot was that lilo hated tourists, which is why she goes around taking pictures of them like they were attractions instead of people; like how they took photos of locals
similarly there was a deleted scene where she scares tourists off of a beach by sounding a false tsunami siren to watch them run screaming deeper in the lore that kid thats a prick to her, mertyle, is the daughter of the person who runs the megamart and crushed a lot of other local businesses- when they have to do a hula to tell a story mertyle actually uses it to describe the low prices, where lilo does a hula about a traditional creation myth that was important to her mother. you may notice both lilo and nani are on first name basis with both the coffee shop owner and the fruitseller, there is big disparity between the locals and foreign interest businesses relegating them to just be tourist industry
friendly reminder that lilo & stitch is indisputably the best disney film
I have a chicken named Noodle and she’s a bit under the weather and all she ever wants to do is cuddle. It’s past chicken bedtime and she was having trouble sleeping alone, so I took her out for a snuggle and she fell asleep with her head laying on my chest and she made the softest snores and I love her
Sadly Noodle’s prognosis is not looking good and she may not make it through this. My little bearded friend has showered me with love and affection since the day I got her. I chose Noodle because she was the chubbiest, happiest little chick in the bunch. I’m so happy I got to raise this smart little goof ball. She’s such a weirdo but she’s so full of love. Below is a picture of the day I brought her home and earlier today.
Love you Chicken Noodle
GOOD NEWS
THE VET WAS VERY WRONG
MY NOODLE BIRD IS DOING FINE
She’s feeling so much better and is just loving all the personalized attention
Miss Noodle is going to remain a house chicken for a couple more days just until we’re absolutely sure she’s out of the woods and she’s honestly so thrilled about it because it means never ending snuggles
Here she is with her boyfriend Pharaoh who helped keep her calm when she was feeling really bad
Her boyfriend doesn’t even look real. he has a doll face. he was perfectly sculpted by the chicken gods.
Noodle deserves no less.

Are Russians European or Asian
Ah yes, the elusive Schrodinger’s Russian…
Ok, well, in all seriousness, it depends on the Russian.
What I mean by that is, Russia spans across two continents. Many people tend to think of Moscow when they think of Russia, and thus think of Russia as a European country…. but the geographical truth is, most of Russia is actually in Asia.
Europe and Asia are split in Russia by the Ural Mountain range. Everything east of those mountains is Asian Russia…… also known as Siberia.
Some people don’t even believe that Asia and Europe are two separate continents, and refer to it as the Eurasian continent block. Which is just preference, I think.
But I suppose you’re asking about like, race or something?
European settlers - specifically Slavic settlers originally expanded into Asian Russia. Right now, the country is populated by both ‘European’ (slavic origin or mixed-european heritage) Russians and “Asian” Russians.
“What does that even mean?“ you ask.
Well, a lot of people assume all Russians look like this:
*Russian squat not included
But the reality is, there are a lot of Russians who are indigenous to the Siberian part of Russia, who have been here way before the Slavic settlers, and who are more closely related to Mongolian and Chinese people.
They look like this:
(Udegeh people)
(Ulcih woman)
(Dolgan girl)
There’s a LOT more, you can start on Wikipedia if you’re interested, but in general, a lot of these people have now either lost their language (most people speak Russian, even though there were originally many, many indigenous siberian languages).
And for many more people that live in Russia who have both Slavic AND Siberian-indigenous heritage, the line is even more blurred. There are Russian traditions in Siberia that may seem a lot closer to their Asian neighbors than to the western side of Russia. For example, (sorry, just pulling this outta my ass) when I went back home to visit 3 years ago my family dragged me to a friend’s place to make pelmeni.
Pelmeni are just dumplings, basically, that are made by hand and then boiled.
They closely resemble chinese dumplings. They’re a staple food in Russia, but they’re not European.
SO ANYWAY back to your question.
Are Russians Asian or European?
DEPENDS ON THE RUSSIAN!
A lot of Russians will identify as European. Especially if they’re white, and they live in Moscow.
Some Russians, who live in Eastern Russia, and are indigenous Siberian, would probably identify as Asian.
I personally was born in Asia… as were my parents, and grandparents. But I’m white, and I don’t have any right to call myself Asian. I can’t call myself European, either, because… I’m not from Europe! I’ve never lived in Europe. My grandmother is half Ukrainian, which, I think, is as European as I get.
I just call myself Russian, and that’s it? I guess?
Idk, I don’t think Russians think about this that often.
Other Russians? Weigh in?
A condor has struck up an unusual friendship with a man who saved the huge creature’s life.
The man nursed the condor back to health after it reportedly fell from a nest as a baby.
And the condor clearly didn’t forget his rescuer, as video footage shows the pair greeting each other with hugs and one big warm embrace, after the condor returned.
After being rescued, the condor – the largest bird in North America – was then able to learn how to fly and return to normal life.

“I asked all of the gay male students in the room to raise their hand if in the past week they touched a woman’s body without her consent. After a moment of hesitation, all of the hands of the gay men in the room went up. I then asked the same gay men to raise their hand if in the past week they offered a woman unsolicited advice about how to “improve” her body or her fashion. Once again, after a moment of hesitation, all of the hands in the room went up. These questions came after a brief exploration of gay men’s relationship to American fashion and women’s bodies. That dialogue included recognizing that gay men in the United States are often hailed as the experts of women’s fashion and by proxy women’s bodies. In addition to this there is a dominant logic that suggests that because gay men have no conscious desire to be sexually intimate with women, our uninvited touching and groping (physical assault) is benign.“”

These attitudes have led many gay men to feel curiously comfortable critiquing and touching women’s bodies at whim. What’s unique about this is not the male sense of ownership to women’s bodies—that is somewhat common. What’s curious is the minimization of these acts by gay men and many women because the male perpetuating the act is or is perceived to be gay.
An example: I was at a gay club in Atlanta with a good friend of mine who is a heterosexual black woman. While dancing in the club, a white gay male reached out and grabbed both her breasts aggressively. Shocked, she pushed him away immediately. When we both confronted him he told us: “It’s no big deal, I’m gay, I don’t want her– I was just having fun.” We expressed our frustrations to him and demanded he apologize, but he simply refused. He clearly felt entitled to touch her body and could not even acknowledge the fact that he had assaulted her.
I have experienced this attitude as being very common amongst gay men. It should also be noted that in this case, she was a black woman and he a white gay male, which makes this an eyebrow-raising dynamic as it invokes the psychological history of white men’s entitlement to black women’s bodies. However it has been my experience that this dynamic of assault with gay men and women also persists within racial groups.
if you’re irish and you complain about britain “erasing culture” but can’t even speak the language/ don’t know shit about ireland before 1910 then just shut your cakehole nobody cares
Them being Irish and not being able to speak the language/not knowing shit about Ireland before 1910 is a direct result of Britain erasing culture, you goddamn Vitamin D-deficient circus clown
JK Rowling only said Dumbledore was gay because there weren’t any risks, the books were finished. Now she’s decided they aren’t, there are risks again and she’s chosen the same spineless path she’s used to. She is no LGBTQ ally.
the saddest death in harry potter is my respect for jk rowling.
