Something Something "it's too dangerous for Jaskier to follow Geralt" leads to Geralt thinking he needs to abandon Jaskier, because the bard would never leave on his own. So in the middle of the forest Geralt tells Jaskier to "stop and wait here" while he needs to check for something up ahead and then he rides off, leaving Jaskier behind
And then- And then he realizes what he just did and immediately turns Roach back around and rides back, just to find Jaskier still in the same spot, happily waiting, none the wiser of what just happened
Later that night, when they're tucked away into their bedroll, Geralt's arms wind around Jaskier and he presses his face against the bard's back and cries, overcome with the horrors of what he was about to do and how easily he could have done it because if how much Jaskier trusts him
