I really love the idea of Billy being like a gay mentor to Will. Like I LOVE Robin, and she helped out a lot (and definitely continues to do so), but I really think Will would've benefited from an older gay man, ESPECIALLY someone like Billy.

Imagine a little Will seeing this big tough macho man who everyone fawns over and finding out he's also gay, just like him. Him realizing that just because he's gay doesn't make him any less of a man, any less normal.

Imagine him finding out that He's also dating Steve Harrington, the jock, the most popular guy in town, and that they're both happy and in love and living normal lives (even if they had a rough start).

That it's not only the 'weird kids', the ones who get bullied that are like him.
