as much as i poke fun at “tumblr prose,” i will acknowledge that sometimes when you’re writing and you’re really in the groove, you’re really feeling yourself, you’re on your capital-a Author shit, and you write a line that makes you go, “oh yeah, this is the Good Shit. this is so Subtle and Says So Much. this is Characterization. this is Themes and Motifs. you could write a whole essay about this one line. the master of the craft strikes again!” and then a month or whatever later when you’re editing you read over it again with post-write clarity and you realize you wrote some real “people die when they’re killed” bullshit
His hand was warm, fingers trailing through his hair. Then again, it was always warm.
“It’s getting long again,” Derek murmured softly.
“Is that a problem?”
“An observation.”
There was a comfort in his voice, soft and relaxed. It made Stiles’ heart lighter every time he thought of how much it took to get here. How many nights were filled with pain and struggle and nightmares.
“Will you shave it for me?” asked Stiles as he tapped his fingers against his chest.
“If you want, but not right now.”
Stiles smiled in agreement, barely moving at all. “Not right now.”

It’s interesting to me the entire first season Stiles who was trying to support new werewolf Scott, and was worried Derek was truly evil because of superstitious beliefs. But in the back of his mind he was trying to also figure out Derek. The scene between him and Argent where this 16 year old son of a sheriff tells the hunter to his face that his sister killed an entire family of werewolves for no reason took a lot of balls. And Derek was so grateful that someone believed him. That scene where Stiles and him are at the nursing home and Derek is in disbelief that this kid just continues to believe in him. Stiles misses the first game he would be able to play at for Derek is very emotional. It’s also emotional that Derek went head to head with his uncle to defend Stiles. Just as he defended Stiles from the Kenima and Isaac. Or stopping Stiles from using electrode pads. Stiles always believed in him. And Derek never stopped protecting Stiles.
Shane like. idk 2014 post Boston winning the cup, meeting his future self. his future self in an Ottawa Centaurs jersey. with no C on his chest. and 2014 Shane sees that and he thinks I failed. I failed I lost so badly they traded me to the worst team in the league. they found out about Rozanov and they traded me. they stripped me of my captaincy and I will never be anything again and his future self, with his wedding ring to Ilya hanging around his neck and looking happier than he's ever looked, looks at 2014!Shane and goes no. this is what winning looks like, kid. this is what we have always wanted, you just don't know it yet. things will be hard but I'd do it all again because it got me here. and then future Shane thinks for a moment and goes I never thought I'd get to be myself in this league. I also never thought I'd get to play on the same team as my husband. But now both things are true. and 2014!Shane looks stunned, tears in his eyes, and future Shane smiles and starts to walk away and then 2014!Shane calls back to him wait! just tell me one thing and future Shane pauses and 2014!Shane steels himself and goes just tell me. is it Rozanov? and future Shane looks back over his shoulder with the biggest grin ever and goes no. but it is Ilya and then he's gone
