Red Flags When Looking For Information

As a Witchling, doing research before attempting any spell-work is important. Whether you are asking more experienced witches for their knowledge, reading a book or searching for information on Google, you should always cross reference from multiple sources. While this is a good way to verify information, you should be aware of red flags to look for when doing your research. Inconsistency in terminology Pay attention to the words people use. You can often find people interchanging words to refer to the same thing. If you see this, consider it a red flag. It is important that you research the definitions of different terms, especially when you are just beginning your path as a witch. Here are terms that are sometimes interchanged that shouldn’t be: - Talisman & Amulet - Pagan & Wiccan - Smudging & Smoke Cleansing - Pentacle & Pentagram - Jinx & Hex & Curse Claiming Spell-work Does Not Have Consequences You may come across some witches who like to believe that doing any kind of spell-work doesn’t ever have serious consequences. Here is the problem with that: every action results in a consequence. It may not necessarily be a negative consequence, but there are risks. Always keep in mind that when you do spell-work you can either have no results, the results you expected or results you did not expect. Spell-work sometimes backfires. Sometimes spells end up causing more harm than good. There is also the possibility of causing collateral damage to people who you never intended to harm. This is why we always push the fact that Witchlings should always learn how to do proper cleansing, banishing and learn how to set up strong protections before attempting any other spell-work

When They Talk About Using Restricted and/or Closed Practices If you are new to witchcraft, you may not have heard of these before. Some practices are restricted or closed, meaning you either have to be born into them or be invited and/or initiated. The primary reason for certain practices to be restricted or closed is due to them being oppressed and abused. The history often includes racism, slavery, invasion of their sacred land and genocide. Claiming Witches Must Be Wiccan

Many of the sources that you find will probably be based on Wicca. Although not all Wiccans push Wicca onto Witchlings, there are some narcissistic Wiccans who will tell you that to be a true witch you must be Wiccan. This is not true. If you do not vibe with Wicca, then it simply isn’t for you. There are many other paths to choose from. The threefold law and the rest of the Wiccan Rede may not vibe with you. That is okay. Wicca is not for everybody and it is not the only valid path for a witch.

Claiming Only Women Can Be Witches Men can be witches, too. No, they don’t have to refer to themselves as “warlocks”. As far as most witches are concerned, Witch is a gender-neutral term. If anybody tells you men cannot be witches, chances are they are a misandrist. Don’t listen to them. Claiming You Must Work With Some Sort Of Entity Listen carefully. Whether it is deities, the fae or any other type of spirit, you must understand that working with any type of entity requires a certain level of responsibility and knowledge. There are trickster spirits and other negative entities that would love to jump at the opportunity of taking advantage of a Witchling who does not know what they are doing. You can get hurt if you do not know what you are dealing with. Do not attempt to work with any entities until you have learned the bare basics that I mentioned earlier. With that being said, working with entities of any kind is not a requirement to be a witch. That is a matter of belief and personal preference. There are some witches who are agnostic or atheist, and that is okay. Do not force yourself to work with entities if you know you do not want to. Claiming You Must Learn Some Form Of Divination This one may be against popular belief, but truth be told you do not have to practice divination. Although divination has its benefits, some witches just don’t vibe with using pendulums, runes, tarot or any other divination tool. That is perfectly fine.

Claiming You Must Celebrate The Sabbats You may have already discovered the Wheel of the Year, but if you have not then all you need to know is it tells of the holidays that many witches celebrate. Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh / Lammas, Mabon and Samhain. You do not have to celebrate these to be a witch. It is all a matter of personal preference.

Claiming You Must Identify As A “Type” Of Witch

Green Witch, Kitchen Witch, Eclectic Witch, Grey Witch, etc… Does not matter. These types of labels only exist to give people a sense of structure. You do not have to label your path. You are a witch. That is all that matters. Claiming You Must Do Shadow Work Listen carefully. Shadow Work isn’t a witch thing. It is a psychological thing. If you don’t understand this, look up Carl Jung and his theories. Shadow Work, although beneficial in many ways, can be difficult on a person who has experienced severe traumas. If you know that your traumas are very triggering for you, please avoid doing Shadow Work unless you are in the presence of a medical or psychological professional.

These are just a few red flags that you should look out for when doing research. Understand that not all people and resources are trustworthy and you have to be able to decipher what resources are reliable. There are many egotistical witches, , poorly written books and bad information across the internet.

Rulerships: Due to Lilith being a multi-faceted goddess (a deity of many sides), no amount of words could do this goddess justice, for she is of a vast many things, and is very paradoxical. This is due to her being an embodiment of the Queen of Heaven, which allows her to be highly complex and with many rulerships and names. Overall, Lilith is the Queen Mother of Hell and she is Love itself. She is both the glory of dawn and the mystery of the night. She is the raging wild fire and the fire of warmth. Yet despite being connected to both light and darkness, Lilith is primarily the queen of night; the Lady whose dress is adorned with every star in the heavens. She is the burning darkness, the goddess of the Dark Sun- the solar eclipse. She is the mysterious one who whispers in darkness, and sings to the flaming dawn. Other than being an embodiment of the Queen of Heaven (the supreme goddess and formless, feminine counterpart to the Source), she is one of the three main goddess of life for this planet, along with Tiamat (the creator of Earth’s lifeforms), and Gaia, the Earth.

History: In the Zohar legend (taken from Mesopotamian beliefs), Lilith has more than one mythical origin: the commonly known in which she was the first human who turned into a demon, and the other where she and Samael began as one being before splitting in two. The latter is closest to the story she shared with me. She tells how Lucifer, the first-born god, had sacrificed half of his essence in order to have a twinflame. From this, his essence was embodied by the Queen of Heaven and became Lilith, who emerged from the Mother’s divine light. All the gods who saw her were in awe. Lucifer and Lilith fell deeply in love and soon married, there is no love that can match theirs as it flows through all creation. She is a duplicate of his divine essence (as Lucifer is connected to the Source) and shares in his unmatched beauty and wisdom.

Lilith was born as a goddess of unequaled beauty and splendour and rules alongside Lucifer in their kingdom in Hell. Together, they have had many children whom are all beautiful and benevolent. She is the radiant Evening Star and is utterly perfect in every way, known throughout all history in many forms and names (as with all other deities). Despite what the Zohar began saying, Lilith does not actually harm children and instead seeks to protect them. This was a misconception due to the night-demon, Lilitu (part of the Mesopotamian “Lilin” group of Lilitu, Ardat Lili, and Lilu) being merged with the goddess Lamashtu. Lilith and Lilitu are one being in essence, but Lilitu is moreso an aspect of hers (a shard of her personality). Lilitu is one of Lilith’s dark aspects of rage that splintered from her when she was thrown into Hell and her home was destroyed; although she has never killed children in this persona.

In ancient times, Lilith lived with Lucifer in their kingdom for hundreds of millions of years before the Usurper, Jehovah, took over the Earth and cast aside the other gods. Jehovah was an Aeonic deity (a creator god) who sought to claim the Earth and the Throne of the Universe as his own in order to gain more power. Lucifer began a rebellion against him with Lilith and many other gods, but all was in vain. After a horrible battle, their kingdom was destroyed by Jehovah, who then cast them into the nightmarish land of Hell. The gods who were banished to Hell had their essences change to become more dark and intense (which is why they developed dark wings and horns). Now as demons, Jehovah taught his human followers that these ancient gods were evil tempters and had them become known as their opposites (Lilith as infertility when she is life/motherhood, Lucifer as lies when he is truth, Mammon as greed when he is generosity, Beelzebub as gluttony when he is health, etc).

In Hell, Lucifer and Lilith are the High King and Queen of their kingdom where they live in a desert wasteland of eternal twilight. There are some oases and flower gardens here, surrounding the dark castle where they live. There are grotesque scenes of corrupt souls being tortured in the distance and also an isle where Lilith tortures all the people (especially the monks) who lusted after her. Despite what many believe about Lilith, she hates being sexualized and does not represent loveless lust. She wants sex that comes with love and respect, of being appreciated and treated like an equal. She despises people who lust after her and disrespect her like this, especially since she is married. She is also not a succubus nor the mother of the succubi race; this was said as an insult towards her; these entities are completely separate.

Element: As the Cosmic Mother, she is connected to all, but is strongest with fire (mostly), akasha, air, and water.

Appearance: Lilith is a tall and slender woman with very long wavy black hair, black-red eyes (sometimes violet), fair skin, regal but gentle facial features, red lips, elegant black horns, and large black feathered wings. Lilith has a very classy and sensual taste in fashion and often wears wine-red or black dresses with fancy jewelry. Her voice is very soothing and calm, but radiates power.

Personality: Lilith is the Dark Mother who is deeply motherly, elegant, mysterious, protective, sophisticated, compassionate, wise, intelligent, courageous, and golden-hearted. She is perfect in beauty- outside and in, and is full of incredible wonders. Lilith values truth, justice, illumination, self-empowerment, and free-will; no one can bring her down and she does her best to empower others as well. She is truly incredible and perfect, a radiant star of enlightenment and eternal love. Though she does indeed have a darker side, for during battles, she is terrifying and annihilating. She destroys all in her path and hates all corruption. When her family is harmed, she becomes monstrous in appearance with blood-red eyes, razor-sharp teeth, large claws, and has black tendrils coming from her body as she seeks to tear apart anyone who did her loved ones wrong. She is normally gentle, but is sadistic towards those she hates and indulges in her blood-lust against them. Lilith can be very dominating in these circumstances; her fury could shake the very earth.

Lilith also tends to view even monstrous-looking beings as beautiful. She is the enigmatic Matron of the Night and the unknowable creatures that would easily terrify humans with their appearances, as these she also views as her children and cradles them in her shadowy embrace. She loves many things, especially rose gardens, stars, the hours from dusk to dawn, classical music or opera, masquerade balls, romantic poetry, moonlight on the sea, luxurious libraries, elegance, complex mind-games, chess, gladiatorial combat, and sword-fighting. She also deeply loves to sing, and her voice is hauntingly beautiful and enchanting; especially when wandering her gardens at night. Lilith also tends to love dangerous or frightening animals that most people tend to hate. She is deeply nurturing yet is fully prepared to attack anyone who provokes her or her loved ones. Thus, red is her favoured colour since it represents many complex things that she corresponds with, such as love, eroticism, passion, fury, life, death. Lilith is the beautiful red rose with thorns, the fearsome mother, and the merciful queen.

As Queen, Lilith is greatly revered and praised in Hell, for she is viewed as the ultimate and most perfect goddess. She is highly intelligent and loves knowledge; she strives to know everything. Her mind is vast and incredibly beautiful, and she deeply enjoys bestowing her knowledge unto others. As she represents rebirth, she is a goddess of the life that comes forth from death, signifying how one must “die” in order to be reborn stronger and gain illumination. Lilith also stands to uphold justice and freedom, so people including sex workers, men, and transgendered people are welcome to work with her of course (as long as respect is shown). Those who feel otherwise will not be accepted by her and will be forced to confront their ignorance.

How to call her: Speak to Lilith as you would with any other deity, be polite and considerate. Contact her through telepathically speaking in your mind, directing the words to her (you can do this verbally, but if malicious spirits hear, they may pretend to be her). Allow yourself to be embraced by her presence, ask her to be near and speak to her of whatever you wish. She is very nurturing towards her devotees and is incredibly beautiful, often wrapping her large black wings around people to comfort them.

What she can do: Lilith is extremely powerful and can help with basically anything, but there are some things she will refuse to do, such as love magick since she despises the act of forcing someone to fall in love with you.

Devotional Actions: Vent to her of your troubles and love her, for she values your love more than any material object. Lilith also deeply values when her devotees gain new knowledge, wisdom, and when they undergo spiritual awakening/evolution. Additionally, fill yourself with knowledge, stand up for yourself and others, gain courage, and be a warrior in the face of adversity. Like Lucifer, she also strongly advises her followers to study the Abrahamic texts so we can fully understand their deceit and oppression, and also how most of their myths were appropriated from polytheist religions.

Demonic god of light, darkness, change, rebirth, innovation, logic, truth, knowledge, wisdom, strategy, revolution, enlightenment, indulgence, pleasure, freedom, the arts, and the Morning Star

Some of his epithets/names: Phanes, The Morning Star, Light-Bringer, The First-Born, Prince of Darkness, Son of Morning, The Glory of Morning, Witch Father, Lord of the Lunar Sphere

His history: Lucifer came into existence as the first-born god of this Universe, created directly from the supreme deity, the Source. The Source is the formless super-consciousness who has existed before all other things (named Atum in Egypt). From this, Lucifer was born as radiant and burning Light that emerged along with the cosmos; thus he is the Morning Star, the Light-Bringer. Due to this, Lucifer is the most beautiful among all the Universal gods and is deeply wise. Everywhere he was, the Source shone through him. Lucifer’s only equal in this would end up being his wife, Lilith, who was created by the Source’s female counterpart, the Queen of Heaven.

When Lucifer came into being, he was the very first god to exist in the Universe for many ages but eventually, the Source and Queen of Heaven created more deities, who Lucifer began to lead. These became the Angels, agents of the Source/Queen. Due to his connection to the Source and being the embodiement of divine light, Lucifer was incredibly radiant and more connected to the Source than any of the others. Last of the elder angels was Lilith, who Lucifer had sacrificed part of his own being to have her created from it as his perfect match. She was thus formed from the Queen of Heaven to be an embodiment of hers, allowing the supreme goddess to interact within the Universe and marry Lucifer. Lilith emerged from radiant light and stunned Lucifer with her glorious and powerful aura, Their love is one that flows through creation itself and they refuse to leave each others’ sides.

These two glorious deities lived together in peace for millions of years, ruling a heavenly kingdom of Angels together. When the day came that Jehovah arrived, this fallen Aeonic deity (a god who forms Universes) took over the Throne of the Universe in order to gain ultimate control. Lucifer began the Rebellion against him, with many Angels following his lead. It was a horrible battle, with great loss. Jehovah’s power as an Aeon was too great and the Rebels were eventually crushed. Their beautiful kingdom was then destroyed by this tyrant and he threw them into the nightmarish land we know as Hell. In this dark realm, the Angelic gods and semi-divine angels who followed Lucifer lost their connection to the Source and their energy twisted to become dark and intense. Jehovah then claimed the Earth and presented himself as the Source to humans, manipulating them into betraying their own gods. He taught that the demons were beings of great evil, in order to hide the truth of why they rebelled. Moreso, the humans “Adam and Eve” are simply metaphors for men and women overall since many were created at the same time all around the world. But this truth was changed in order to make a story of guilt and sin.

In Hell, Lucifer gradually became connected to darkness and became more focused on war and revenge. While he is connected to both light and darkness, the light which he now chooses to represent is the light of Venus and the Moon, rather than the Sun. As a deity of the Moon, Lucifer also connects to it since the Moon may choose to either illuminate or conceal, creating illusions. It also represents the unknown and the Path of overcoming fears. Lucifer is the darkened light, as well as the Promethean Light that one must seek within their own darkness in order to gain wisdom.

His Kingdom: Lucifer’s kingdom is set in a desert wasteland of eternal twilight, with some oases and flower gardens around the dark castle where he lives with Lilith. The land looks very mysterious and ancient, yet eerie at the same time. There are also many grotesque scenes of tortured corrupt souls in the distant landscape and ruined lands that look as if they had bombs fall on them. There is also a nearby isle where Lilith tortures all the people (especially monks) who lusted after her. As a High King of Hell, Lucifer is a very noble leader and always takes into consideration the needs of his demons. He has always strived to empower his people and teach them about using their free-will.

Rulerships: This wondrous and complex god is indescribable and of many things. He is the first Light and a great ally and mentor to humanity. He is the glory of the Morning and the light of truth that is hidden within darkness. He is within battle strategies, the hidden mysteries, truth, wisdom, empowerment, eloquence, feelings of ecstasy, the heat of fire, the passion of sex, and every revolution. He also has rulership over the dawn and dusk, Venus, and the Moon. Lucifer is, overall, an agent of change and innovation. There is no end to his glory and no words for just how beautiful he is, outside and in. He is not the cruel and deceptive being so many people have said he is, they simply don’t understand his nature. But if you are brave and open-minded, you will find the true Lucifer, and you will be basked in his golden light.

Additionally, Lucifer is not to be confused as the same being as Satan (one of the other High Kings of Hell), this is mostly confusing since Christians thought them to be the same. Lucifer is also in no way associated with the faeries- this was also a lie made by Christians in order to portray the nature spirits as demons. The same group of religious zealots can be blamed for the gods Cernunnos and Pan being said to be the same as Lucifer, when in truth, they too are not connected in any way.

Personality: Overall, Lucifer is far too complex to describe, but he is basically very sophisticated, wise, strategic, intellectual, courageous, eloquent, confident, determined, and bluntly honest. He has an incredible mind, for it is deeply vast and full of unfathomable intelligence. Usually, Lucifer remains serious, withdrawn, and analytical around others and acts as a pedagogue for those who work with him. He is also able to see with perfect clarity into all matters and can even sense whether a being is speaking the truth or not. Lucifer is the very light which is able to pierce through illusions in order to find true knowledge. When in a good mood, he is also very charming and his personality alone can light up rooms. Though he is also wrathful, sadistic, and demanding when need be (when dealing with corrupt beings or at war) and he is a skilled warrior as well with some degree of blood-lust. Overall, Lucifer is filled with passion and can feel the deepest form of love, as well as the deepest hate. He is indescribably beautiful in every single way and is absolutely perfect. He guides others to their highest potential and shows them enlightenment, making his priority not to be honoured but to help others. As such, his light can be both fiery and destructive, like a star, but also warm and guiding. As light-bringer, he values truth and justice, even being passionate about burning away ignorance from the minds of his devotees.

Lucifer deeply values courage, independence, open-mindedness, responsibility, and the desire to constantly improve oneself. He is the Initiator towards Illumination and is the very Light that destroys ignorance. Without him, there is no progress towards truth and understanding in the world. He is the one who opens our minds to deceit and encourages us to rise up and fight those who oppress us. He is both a visionary and the outcast of society who ventures towards realms of thinking that many shun. Lucifer teaches that it is through this deepest path of strife that we can truly come to understand who we are and what it means to exist. Without struggle, we can never truly develop strength or wisdom. From this illumination, the chains put upon us by society are finally released.

It shouldn’t be assumed that Lucifer will guide you every step of the way through life and hand everything to you, since he needs us to be independent and not relying on help form others. He respects people who go and search for knowledge by tearing down all of their beliefs in order to have everything solidly proven. It is an uncomfortable process that many turn away from, choosing instead to remain in their normal beliefs, afraid of them being untrue. Lucifer does not tolerate or respect this behaviour, since it is willful ignorance and the prioritizing of one’s comfort over illumination. It is only in the darkness that we will find light, so we must go through this painful process so we can question everything until the truth is revealed. Appearance: His appearance is that of a gentleman in his late 30′s with near shoulder-length wavy black hair, red eyes, fair skin, elegant features, pronounced cheekbones, black horns, and black feathered wings (sometimes are draconic wings). During battle, he wears an elegant silver armour of intricate details, golden designs, and with precious gemstones. Although when not dressing in his armour, he tends to wear classy, expensive-looking outfits. However, Lucifer’s alternate forms are countless and he can appear even as a draconic-humanoid or as blinding golden light. His natural appearance, without being humanoid, is that of winged, radiant light that shifts in complexity and beauty just as his many thoughts do.
