Forget breakups. Have you ever met someone you had an insane connection with for a short period of time and then life decided that you weren‘t meant to be?
How long have you been a tech for? - Hales
Hi love !! ♥︎ I'm actually still training! I did kennel for about 2 and a half years and have been slowly transitioning to tech the past 4-5 months. But even while I was kennel, I was basically a vet assistant on the side and held for x-rays, blood draws, sub fluids, ultrasounds, and went to VMX before I was out training!!
That's so cool!! I'm so happy for you! Vet tech is the bomb. How are you liking it so far?
I'd say it has its ups and its downs-! As does any job, I suppose. The best part is probably the learning. I adore being able to learn from the techs and doctors at my clinic. I feel very privileged that all of the Dr's where I work are AMAZING people. I'd say if it weren't for them and the techs being so willing to teach about what they're doing, I'd have a lot more apprehension about it. I witness things and feel SO privileged to be watching it all happen? Watching the techs intubate patients, refill and fill medication, catheterize, euthanize and take it in stride as the day goes on, work with drugs so efficiently. Ugh. I know it sounds weird but I admire it a LOT and hope to be as well versed in the field. Its amazing how we're basically dentists, nurses, pharmacists, ultrasound techs, and more.
The cons are probably how demanding and stressful it is? My grandma calls it feast or famine. Nothing could be happening one day, then the next we have 4 work in euths, someone ruptured a spleen...no wait. 3 dogs did....we have to send one to the emergency room. We're all staying an hour past close too sometimes, etc.... sometimes working with patients can be stressful when you need 6 people to get blood from a 16lbs dog! But I think having a really good team kinda makes or breaks you. In my case, it's making me. I've had my little scuffles with the team, but they're receptive and listen and do their best too
It sounds like you have a wonderful team. And it's not weird at all to admire this! If that's weird, then I'm weird. (Still true)
That reminds me I had a very similar issue the other day with getting a catheter in a small dog with 4 other techs (small team). They're crazy!! 🫠 Just why won't you stay still. 🫠
*What's with the spleen ruptures lately???*
Let's see.... I've been in vet med since 2019. But schooling from 2019-2022. And working in a clinic since '22. So 6 years working but 8 years total? I've had my CVT since the end of '23.
Do you have to get your cert in your state?
You know its over when the head taps don't work and they aren't interested in peanut butter 😩
I DON'T KNOW GIRL we have had so many patients come in with a ruptured spleen, which is disheartening because usually that means the owner opts to put them down:(
You do NOT need to be certified in the state of FL — I know there's a lot of controversy about it though. I don't think we have one certified tech on our team....? Just techs who have either been doing it for 20-30 years and the people they've trained 😩
The poor peanut butter. Wasted by a trouble pup. *Sigh*
Yea, we just had the local mobile ultrasound techs (super nice duo) come by and dx a 13yr Husky with mets on the liver. It's so sad. In the last month we've done like 4-5 splenectomies on large dogs.
Here in AZ, our techs DON'T need to be certified either. I have no issues with people not being certified. It just means you went through schooling. We don't even use a lot of the stuff we learned. Lol
What's your favorite part of the job? Or part that you enjoy doing?
Interesting omg! I'm starting to wonder what the point of the spleen is 😩 what are you here for!?
Hmm the part I enjoy doing the most is probably the hands on stuff. I really wanna learn to pull blood as I've only done it once. I enjoy pulling up vaccines and watching Dr's do wound care, how they all have their own little methods. I really want to be a surgery tech one day too, but that'll come much much later I'm sure!
What's your favorite part? What part did you struggle with the most while you were learning?

oMG AND ALSO BUILDIMG A BOND WITH PATIENTS. I mentioned him today, but I never stop talking about this dog and when he passed, I felt so .....distraught but also...a sense of happiness? Like I was able to be there for him and say bye. The owners were so sweet. Nothing hurts more than when a patient I know well suddenly isn't lit up in cornerstone anymore and I didn't say bye, but when I do get to say bye I feel at so much peace...? Like I'll remember your pet forever and am so appreciative to have known this animal

There’s a spider watching you right now. You can’t see it but she’s weaving you a pretty little tapestry bc she thinks you’re neat. She hopes you like it and it keeps you safe.
I was placed with a coworker who never looks like he knows what hes doing today . Which is great cause I don't know either. Luckily in the afternoon, I was placed with the head tech.....who knows far too well what she is doing...and never has anyone placed with her ever when we train people..? Pray for me
Today was actually so . Like I keep staring off into space and pausing like damn i wish I had a bad habit 😭 i cant even smoke the memories away and I dont drink . The best ive got is frosting straight from the container
This field is....well. you walk away wondering why you do it sometimes
