Manifesting WinterAgent moments from the comics for Doomsday đ
A silent communication moment where John stops Bucky from going too far sort of like this time from Thunderbolts (2023) #3
Bucky quoting something John said earlier, Bucky not wanting to leave without John, and a someone saying Bucky is John's boyfriend because John is so loyal to Bucky like these moments from Thunderbolts: Doomstrike (2025) #2
John riding pillion on Bucky's motorcycle like this time from The United States of Captain America (2021) #4
Bucky suddenly being next to John after John gets hurt like this time in Hawkeye: Freefall (2020) #4
Bucky being the one to try to keep John from being too rash like these moments from Captain America Corps (2011) #1 and #2
Just because the comic versions of the characters are quite different from the MCU versions doesn't mean we can't get an out-of-context nod to a panel here or there đ¤
Realized it's been a minute since I posted any random thoughts/headcanons (I am elbow deep in my latest winteragent WIP for what it's worth lol), so,
Here are a few more stepdad Bucky headcanons :D
Especially when John's kid is still young, Bucky tends to call him almost exclusively by nicknames. "kid", "bud/buddy", even the occasional "hon/honey."
As he gets older, he obviously doesn't want to be called these names as much, and Bucky has to make an active effort to use his real name. When he's a preteen, Bucky starts calling him "punk." Now I imagine John's kid as actually a pretty shy/awkward preteen/teenager and generally a quiet and well behaved kid, so at first he's really confused about the new nickname. He's like "I'm not a punk?? What did I do wrong??" And John has to explain that Bucky means it as a term of endearment.
(one time Bucky called him punk in front of his friends and it earned him a ton of cool points lol)
I also headcanon that John's son goes through a bit of a goth phase as a young teenager, and Bucky is 1000% down with it. He takes the kid shopping and fully supports the black attire. John's just like "you sure you don't want a splash of color? Not even some dark blue?" but when the kid insists this is what he likes, with Bucky nodding along sagely, John lets it go pretty quickly lol
This may sound dumb, but how would a scenario play out where the reader just thought Marc, Steven, and Jake were identical triplets and has the absolute shock of their life
Hi ! I your "đđđđđđđđ đđđđ đđđđđ" story, is there a part 2 to see what would happen next ? :D :D
đđđđđđđđ đđđđ đđđđđ: đđđđđđ đđđđ đ
Steven Gra
â YOU HAD BEEN CONFUSED AS MUCH BEFORE BUT THIS CONFUSION WAS PARTICULAR. Dating Steven Grant wasn't easy but you didn't mind dating him. No matter how many dates he didn't show up to, how late he was to everything, and how he may come off as. You loved Steven but what you didn't understand was that there were three of him.
Granted, Steven didn't know that others were living inside of him, and Marc and Jake tried to play it off as if they were his brothers. It was very confusing to see two identical people that looked like your boyfriend. As like right now, the man with a black golfer hat, wearing tight black long sleeves and blue jeans walked alongside you down the flea market.
Jake Lockley stood next to you with his arms full of groceries as he stared at all the shining antiques glistening under the sun. "Thank you for coming with me to the flea market!" You said happily as you swayed your tote bag in your hand. "I don't know where Steven is and he wouldn't answer my text. So I thought you would ignore the flea market. I remember that you told me back home that you use to go to flea markets when you were a kid."
Jake knew it was terrible to keep the secret that there was actually just three of them in one body but Jake and Marc agreed that Steven should get to live a normal life without knowing about them. It was easy to keep it that way because they always ask you at the end of hanging out with you to not tell Steven. Jake was lucky that you were kind and loyal to not tell Steven, perhaps even a little innocent and oblivious.
Perhaps that's why Jake and Marc were okay with fronting around you. They were comfortable around you because sometimes, they needed that innocence and obliviousness nature to make them feel okay. They didn't have anyone but at least they felt okay being around you. And Jake's heart swelled from how you remembered one of his talks that was a while ago. He didn't want to fall in love with Steven's girlfriend but it was becoming inevitable at this point.
Even Marc was slowly falling in love with you. It was another reason why Marc and Jake were fronting around you. "You. . .remembered, Hermosa?" Jake questioned with furrowed brows as he glanced over you.
"Of course I did." You said with a huge grin, glancing back at him. "I remember everything you tell me. I even started practicing Spanish to communicate with you better. I just want to communicate with Steven's brother better."
The warm summer sun radiated against your face as you stopped in the middle of the busy flea market. You wore the cutest sunflower dress, the dress itself was black but the small litters of yellow sunflowers scattered across your dress. You wore a bucket hat with a Mickey Mouse embedded in the middle of it. Jake felt his heart pounding, he clutched the groceries tightly around his muscular arms. He knew that this deception was wrong and he should tell the truth but it was a bit thrilling to have this secret be kept from you. But it was also wrong because he was falling for Steven's girlfriend.
"Okay, let's hear your Spanish then." Jake waved two fingers off the brown bag as he nodded his head encouragingly.
"Okay." You inhaled a deep breath and spoke broken Spanish in the most horrendous way possible. Jake pressed his lips into a thin line as his lips trembled trying to hold back laughter. He brought the brown bags against his face as a huge smile broke on his lips. "You're laughing behind those bags!"
You pushed his shoulders as Jake erupted into laughter behind the bags. "That's not nice!" You shouted, crossing your arms as Jake lowered the bag laughing more. "I really tried!"
"Esta bien, mi amor. Hiciste lo mejor que pudiste." Jake said as he walked over to the curb of the street to stand out of the way of people.
It's okay, my love. You did your best.
You tilted your head as you furrowed your brows. Jake assumed from your broken Spanish that you didn't know what he said but your lips curled into a frown. "Did you call me my love?" You asked.
Jake froze as he stared down at you. He didn't expect you to know Spanish, that didn't make sense. How could you understand Spanish but speak it so horrible? "How did you know what I said? You can't even pronounce the proper words." Jake replied trying to shrug off that he called you my love. He was supposed to be Steven's "brother" he wasn't supposed to flirt with you or catch feelings and here he was utterly falling into an abyss gazing into your confused eyes.
"I only said I could show you I can speak Spanish." You countered with raised eyebrows. "It's easier to understand it than to speak it but why did you call me my love?"
Jake didn't have an answer. He could lie to many people as possible about his identities, and who he was and make up countless stories. But it was hard to lie to you. Those pretty [color] eyes that he could get lost in for hours on end as he was hypnotized. He cleared his throat as he looked away from you. "It's a nickname for those you hold dear to your heart and you're my dearest. . .friend."
The words that came out of him tasted bitter. Jake knows he shouldn't want more but he wants more, he wants you. All of you. And for you to only see him as Steven's brother was painful to live through. Jake wanted you to be his and he knew Marc felt the same but as the protector of both Marc and Steven, he already felt selfish for still being the avatar of Khonshu so the least he could do was not condone his own feelings.
"You're my dearest friend too!" You said with a wide smile as you bent down to pluck a flower off a bush. You went on your tippy-toes and brush the flower on Jake's hair, pushing away his brown hair out of the way.
Jake shuddered feeling the padding of your fingers against his hair. He definitely wanted more but he couldn't have you. And that was the problem, he couldn't have you because you were already someone else's. "Yeah, friend," Jake muttered. "Let's go get some food."
"Okay. But I'm choosing this time."
No matter how much Jake wants to tell you that he's in the same body as Steven and tell you that he loves you, he knows he can't. So, he pushed aside his feelings as his lips tugged into a smirk looking at you. "Don't choose any white people food, there isn't any taste to their food."
And one "brother" to another, Marc came out and knocked on your door. He asked if you wanted to do a midnight stroll and possibly get IHOP after the stroll. You agreed because you loved hanging out with Steven's "brothers" and you thought you were getting closer to them by spending time with them. You thought it was weird that Marc and Jake asked you to not tell Steven about it, perhaps they wanted to surprise him about the closeness you were having with them?
Whatever it may be, Marc's sweater hung loosely on you as you stared at the twinkling night sky. The moonlights shone brightly against the two of you as Marc walked you down the bristling streets of London trying to find an IHOP to get pancakes.
Marc glanced down at you as your smile formed on your lips watching the stars. He knew it was wrong as well to feel this swelling feeling in his heart. To absolutely be enthralled by someone who was innocent and oblivious. He needed that in his life, just someone to balance his chaos but as Jake was feeling, you were someone else's.
"How's. . .Steven?" Marc questioned trying to make conversation as he twiddled with his golden necklace against his neck trying to calm his nerves. It was always hard to talk to you because of how nervous Marc would get but he tried his best around you. It wasn't hard falling in love with you because of how kind you were to Steven. How gentle you were when Steven missed your dates. You were patient. Something Marc was never good at but somehow, you were teaching him to be all these things that he never imagined he would become.
"Oh, Steven's great! I haven't seen him much today since I was with your other brother, Jake." You said absentmindedly as you peered your eyes away from the vast sky. Your eyes twinkled at Marc underneath the fluorescent street light as you talked about your day with Jake and how Jake made fun of your Spanish.
Marc started snickering as he heard you try saying something in Spanish. "No wonder Jake was laughing. That was terrible Spanish." Marc replied. He hasn't smiled this much in a long time and honestly, he was having a good time smiling this much. He hasn't smiled like this since his actual brother, Randall before he died.
"Jake wouldn't stop making fun of me. I don't need another brother to tease me about it." You huffed but a smile broke on your lips as you walked down the street, not paying attention to anything but Marc as you glanced at him. "I've been meaning to ask you something."
"What is it?" Marc questioned, arching an eyebrow at you.
"How come I never see you in the same room as Jake and Steven?" You questioned, gazing at him for answers. It has been on your mind why the three brothers won't' hang out with each other. From how often Jake and Marc visit you, they never seem to want to visit Steven. In fact, you have never seen them in the same room at all.
"She's going to find out," Jake called out from the reflection of a puddle as Marc passed by it trying to think of a response but a sudden gust of wind blew harshly against the two as you suddenly stumbled on your feet.
Marc outstretched his arm and grasp your wrist from falling, pulling you against his broad chest. "Are you okay?" Marc questioned, looking to the side to see that Khonshu had pushed you.
"YOU'RE WELCOME, IDIOT," Khonshu said, disappearing away from thin air.
Marc could only thank Khonshu for this moment because he had no idea how to tell you that Steven was an alter of him. "I'm okay." You breathed out lifting your head to look at Marc with a soft smile. "Thank you."
You hastily pulled away. There was that beating of your heart strumming for Marc. The same beating that was for Jake as well. You hated yourself for feeling a certain way for Steven's brothers but it was hard to not feel your heart swell when Steven's brothers looked exactly like him. Yes, they all acted differently but it was the same face. The same face you fell in love with.
"Let's go get. . .pancakes." You trailed off awkwardly, turning around fast to walk away quickly so he wouldn't see your burning cheeks.
Marc glared at the moon, grumbling to himself about how adorable you looked in his sweater and how cute you looked against his chest. He wanted these thoughts to stop and he knew it was selfish for falling for Steven's girlfriend but he couldn't help himself. "Khonshu, this is the only time I'm saying thanks to you," Marc muttered and then followed your path to IHOP.
After spending the day with both brothers, you decided it was time to go home and get back to Steven. But something felt off when Marc rushed away quickly as he left you in front of the apartment building saying a quick goodbye. It was strange seeing him run off quickly but you shrugged it off, wanting to go back to Steven as you held what he usually ordered at IHOP.
You made it through the building and into your apartment. "Steven?" You called out, closing the door behind you as you locked it. You heard cluttering noises coming from deeper into the apartment. "Steven?"
Walking towards the noise, you saw Steven's body slumped against the made bed as he fluttered his eyes open confused. Steven rubbed his eyes as he sat up. He was confused about what time it was. He knew that he must have overslept or perhaps underslept seeing how it was still dark outside. "Steven?" You called out, stepping in front of you.
A smile broke out on his lips as he jerked his head towards your direction as you entered the bedroom. "Hi, love!" He cheerily said, it felt like he hasn't seen you all day.
"Hi, Steven." You said, walking up to him and pressing your lips against his forehead. "I got you food."
"Can you put it in the refrigerator for me? Some reason, I'm not that hungry." Steven shuffled on the bed as he fixed his hair. He felt like he looked messy from barely waking up. "You went to IHOP without me?"
"No. . ." You trailed off trying to think of what to say since Marc asked not to tell Steven. "I went with a friend. You know Peter, right? He wanted to eat a late-night snack and I didn't know where you were so I just went with him."
"You didn't know where I was?" Steven asked confused, furrowing his brows as you walked out of the room to put Steven's food away. He scrambled off the bed to follow you as a million thoughts went through his head. He's been here all this time. Why would you not know where he was? He shared this apartment with you for two months already and he was always here, if not then at work. "Darling, I was here."
You arched an eyebrow at him as you opened the door to the refrigerator. "Uh, no. You weren't." You replied confused. "I tried to hang out with you today but you were gone. Today is your day off as well but I assumed you were at the bookstore getting more Egyptian history books."
"No, I've been sleeping all this time." Steven rubbed his forehead confused as he stared at you closing the fridge door and turning around. "I barely woke up. I shouldn't have been asleep that long."
"Steven. . ." You trailed off equally as confused as he was. You glanced down at his clothes and furrowed your brows. The golden necklace that Marc wears hung loosely on Steven's neck. Marc's necklace. Maybe he was with Marc today? But that couldn't be because you just saw Marc. "Where did you get Marc's necklace? Did you finally talk to him?"
"Marc?" Steven questioned, lowering his hand down from his aching forehead as he gazed at you, confused. "Who the hell is Marc?"
Shit. Jake and Marc thought watching from the reflections.
"Your brother?" You asked slowly. You let out a small laugh, shaking your head. "Wait, did he tell you to pretend to not know that you're talking to each other again? Is Jake on this?"
Steven was in bewilderment. He had no clue who the hell you were talking about. Who was Marc and Jake? Were they people you knew? And why would he know them? He barely had any friends, hell, you were his only friend. "Someone's having a laugh because I don't know who's those bloody men are pretending to be my brother. I don't have a brother."
"Steven, Marc and Jake look exactly like you." You pressed on as Steven stumbled back trying to comprehend what you were saying. You laced your fingers with his as you took him to the couch to sit down before he fell from his confusion. "I wasn't supposed to take pictures being with them but. . ." You took your phone from Marc's sweater. A sweater that Steven has never seen as well.
Steven couldn't help but feel jealous seeing another man's sweater look adorable on you. "Look at this." You called out taking him out of his thoughts as he glanced down at your dimmed screen.
Steven's brows furrowed. He was going through different stages of bewilderment and shock. His lips parted, and his eyes went wide. His facial expressions conveyed the emotions he was going through. Disbelief, shock, confusion, and then, terrified. "Steven, what's wrong?" You asked concern. "These are your brothers. . .Marc and Jake."
Steven stared at the pictures as his breath trembled, he didn't mean to grab your phone rudely but he zoomed in on the picture. It was from today. You snuck a picture of Jake petting a dog. The side of his face looked exactly like Steven's. Then, he scrolled to the next picture of this Marc person. A clearer photo of Marc came through as he ate pancakes. It was him but at the same time, it wasn't.
Steven couldn't recall these memories and they were from today apparently. His hands trembled as his fingers loosen, and the phone slipped through his hands as he stared terrified at the ground in front of him. "That's not me," Steven whispered.
"What? Of course not, they're your brothers."
"No." Steven shook his head as he slowly turned his head towards you. "Love, I don't have any identical brothers. I don't have any brothers at all. . .it's me but it's not me."
"I don't think I understand." You replied with furrowed brows.
Steven was in disbelief. It wasn't him, those photos were him but they weren't. He couldn't believe who was in those pictures. There was no reconciliation of any memories. He knew he had problems with missing days and missing hours. There were blank spaces in his life but the photos you showed him were utterly insane. "I don't have any brothers. . .it's me."
From witnessing how terrified Steven was, you believed him and from the same golden necklace as well that hung on Steven's neck that Marc wore. You put a hand on his shoulder for comfort as you softly asked, "Then who was it?
"I don't know but they're not me."
Jake and Marc watched from the reflections knowing that Marc had screwed up big time and that the consequences of their actions caught up to them. For the first time, they didn't know what to do as Steven sat there horrified and shocked. Steven now understood that the jacket you had on your body was either Jake's or Marc's.Â
Perhaps there will be a part two of this but resentment series and no time to die series is taking longer to write than I hoped because theyâre both going to be lengthy chapters.
summary: you're extremely clumsy. Steven worries. Marc finds it amusing. Jake gets protective. But they all love you for it nonetheless.
tags: pure fluff, oneshot, boyf!Steven & Marc & Jake, gn!reader (no pronouns/descriptions in place), cute slice of life moments, some comedic humor with Khonshu, bc I am a student in London ofc I had to add in English lingo/London tingz, please do not take as accurate portrayal of DID by any means

Steven worries for you. Endlessly.Â
He knows youâre a capable adult. Youâre wicked smart, hard to trick, quick to respond with a sassy comment. But youâre extremely clumsy. He still remembers how the way the two of you first met was because you tripped and nearly fell onto an exhibit piece. Having just finished his shift, Steven was exhausted but his reflexes kicked in as his left arm quickly wrapped around your waist, stopping you from hitting the floor.
Your eyes remained closed, bracing for the harsh impact of the floor, but instead all you felt was⌠someoneâs warm arm wrapped around your waistline.Â
âA-are you alright?â a soft British voice asked you, your eyes slowly opening to be met with a gorgeous curly haired man with a name tag pinned onto his shirt. Steven, it read.Â
âI- yeah, thank you. I didnât mean to fall but I was distracted.â you sheepishly added, looking away from the handsome manâs gaze. You mustâve looked like such a fool, you berated yourself. Unbeknownst to you, he was mesmerized by the way the fading sunlight was illuminating your face, your smile hesitant but pure and your voice even sweeter to hear.Â
âYes, the exhibits are truly fascinating-â he started, only to be cut off.
âI was actually looking at the guide dog.â you interrupted, pointing to the golden retriever across the room. âBut these ancient exhibits are interesting too! I just wish I had a tour guide or something because reading all this printed information on four hours of sleep is really difficult.â you quickly added, making Steven chuckle.Â
âI-I could show you around, if youâd like.âÂ
Steven had no idea where the sudden courage came from, but he didnât want to clamber onto the tube and go back to his empty flat quite yet. He wanted to stay here, with you, listen to you ramble about the most innocuous things. He nervously fiddled with the edge of his jacket, thinking he had perhaps crossed the line, but all you did was smile even wider.
âReally? Are you sure? I mean thereâs only half an hour before closing so-âÂ
âItâs no problem, really.âÂ
âThank you, Steven.âÂ
âNo problemâŚ.â he trailed off, waiting for you to fill your name in.Â
â(Y/n).âÂ
â(Y/n). Nice to meet you. So if you look closely upon this carving, youâll see that itâs a depiction of Anubis. Anubis is the protector of the dead in Egyptian mythologyâŚâÂ
That had been six months ago and now you had moved into his flat, your hoodies carelessly folded over the couch and your mismatched socks stuffed precariously into his drawers. He wouldnât have it any other way though - being able to come home to you each night and to have your face be the first thing he sees every day (more or less given that both of you had hectic schedules) made even the worst days much brighter for him. It also helped that living together meant he could keep an eye on you more: it wasnât uncommon for you to have shown up to dates, prior to moving in, with a sprained wrist, a small bruise on your arm, a twisted ankle⌠All from (badly) doing regular things.Â
You were just so clumsy and out of them all, Steven worried the most. He carried plasters with him everywhere, in addition to filling one of his drawers to the brim with first aid supplies (which had the additional benefit of being of use to Marc or Jake after a night out, he supposed). He would be the first to drop all his books and come rushing by your side if he heard something drop or shatter, his first priority never being about the damaged item but your wellbeing. He didnât care that youâd shattered three mugs since moving in or that youâd nearly given yourself a concussion from tripping over a package you were too lazy to pick up. Your clumsiness never annoyed him, though it just made him worry endlessly and be on high alert whenever you decided to do something even remotely dangerous.Â
âAh, shit.âÂ
You were sucking on the edge of your slightly burnt thumb for less than two seconds when Steven came rushing into the room, the sound of metal hitting the floor followed by your cursing forcing him to sprint out of bed and come to your aid. His hands carefully cradled your left hand, examining it in the dim yellow light of the kitchen, whilst you rolled your eyes playfully in protest.
âStevennnnn, the cookies!â you attempted to pull away from him but his grip was iron tight.
âYouâre far more important than the sweets, love. Hold on.âÂ
Turning off the oven, he pulled out a pack of plasters from the top shelf, ordering for you to run your thumb under cold water in the mean time. Afterwards, he carefully dried off your finger (being ever so careful to ask you to tell him if it was hurting as he applied pressure) and bandaged it nicely with a soft kiss to your hand. The action made your heart flutter.
âThanks, Steven.â you kissed him gently, an action which still made him blush.
âNo problem, darling.âÂ
â... Are the cookies okay though?â you pouted, pulling away from his embrace to check inside the oven. Stevenâs hands quickly landed on your shoulders, pulling you backwards in an instant.Â
âHold on, love. Let me get the cookies out, alright? Donât want you to burn yourself again.â he lightly teased, putting on oven gloves. You sighed - admittedly, that was probably the best thing to do anyways. Steven was the one to carefully take the cookies off of the baking sheet with a spatula as you arranged them neatly into stacks into the plastic container, carefully balancing one of the cookies on top of your palm so you could feed it to Steven. He smiled, gently biting into the dessert, a pleasant hum leaving his lips.
âAny good? Itâs a new recipe.âÂ
âItâs marvelous, love. Very sweet. Only second to you.âÂ
âWell it was a team effort, Iâd say. I bake and⌠you make sure I donât burn the flat down. Or burn myself.â you added, taking a bite of the cookie as well. âSeriously, donât you get tired of having to treat minor injuries for me so often?âÂ
Steven shook his head sideways, kissing you softly again - his lips still had the remnants of coconut and chocolate, with a hint of raspberry.Â
âNever.âÂ
---------------------------------------
Marc, on the other hand, finds your clumsiness endlessly amusing.Â
He wouldnât hesitate to pull you away from a burning pot or to help you stand up if you fell, of course. But unlike Steven who worried endlessly, waiting anxiously by your side as you cooked or cleaned, he found your daring efforts amusing and fun. Especially when heâd be able to tease you afterwards, see the adorable way in which your face would crinkle up in embarrassment, thereby giving him an excuse to kiss away the sour expression from your face.Â
Juggling trying to retain whatever was ânormalâ for Steven with a mercenaryâs life and an Egyptian god constantly bothering him in the background, there was something so comforting and normal about watching you. His favorite sight in the world was whenever youâd stay up late waiting for him to get home then fall asleep on the sofa, your face smushed into the cushions, your chest rising in soft breaths as you slept. Being able to carry you back to bed, after arranging the pillows and blankets to be as comfortable as they could, before falling into the sheets with you was how he wished every day could be.Â
His heart burned for you. And amongst the millions of things he loved about you, above all, it was your heart - your never ending desire to help others, your generosity, your need to always give back to others. He even saw one time that youâd scheduled various anniversaries into your phone, each day color coded and neatly organized - he pretended to have not seen the first month anniversary notification and acted surprised a week later when you pulled out a pair of tickets to a new musical. His right arm never left your waist as you clung to him afterwards, the uneven cobblestoned streets of London making walking (especially as you were drunk) ever more difficult.Â
âOh!â you suddenly stopped walking, causing Marc to almost tip over to the side at the suddenness and force with which you stopped walking. Cautious, he quickly surveyed the surroundings, expecting you to have seen something to make you nervous. âRemind me to take out the cake I have in the fridge before Marc gets home.âÂ
His heart was overflowing with warmth as he chuckled quietly, brushing away your hair from your face so he could better see it under the moonlight.
âBaby, I am Marc.âÂ
You simply hummed in response, his reply not seemingly registering in your brain for a few moments before your eyes widened in shock.
âYou are! No, now I ruined the surprise.â you dramatically flailed your arms, almost falling over as you took a misstep. Marcâs reflexes were fast, quickly pulling you into his chest as a black cab rushed by.Â
âCareful, angel. Almost got run over by London traffic.âÂ
Gently walking you towards the other side of the street, Marc was vigilant to keep you away from the side facing the open traffic all the way until the two of you reached the flat. Opening the door took several tries as you insisted on being useful and opening it yourself, but you kept on dropping the key or using the wrong key for the door.Â
âJust help the little human already.â Khonshu grumbled from the background, his arms crossed and his tone unamused. But Marc didnât care. There was something so cute about seeing you get frustrated, your eyebrows furrowing in concentration as you tried over and over again to open the door. When Marc eventually stepped in and opened it in one try, you threw your arms around him, kissing his face and calling him your hero, causing him to accidentally knock against the kitchen counter with a mug falling and shattering on the floor as a result.
âMy clumsy baby. What will I ever do with youâŚâ he commented against your lips, the pads of his thumbs drawing circles on your face.
âPerhaps you could begin by cleaning up the filth on the floor.âÂ
Marc was about to chastise the god when your head suddenly whipped around to the tall creature.Â
âShut it, birdie! It was a mistake.âÂ
â... You can see me?â the godâs voice changed from annoyance to one of surprise, clearly having underestimated your abilities to perceive beyond the mortal world.
âYes! And you need to stop being so mean to Steven, heâs a good boy.âÂ
The god was baffled into silence as Marc let out a wild laugh at your antics, hugging you closer to his chest.
God, he loved you.Â
The sound of the door finally unlocking snapped him out of his memories, his thoughts running wild when you finally stepped out of the bathroom, nervously pulling at the ends of the fabric whilst looking yourself over in the mirror repeatedly. He knew you were meeting with your best friendâs fiancee tonight and that you want to make âthe best impression possible.â His throat immediately ran dry, his eyes hungrily drinking in your figure whilst you took his silence to be a bad thing.
âOh no, does it look bad on me? Is it too much? Should I change? I can grab-âÂ
A swift kiss to your lips, firm but still gentle, cut your rambling off.Â
âYou look perfect, baby. Now you have to leave if you want to catch your Uber on time.âÂ
âRight.â you smiled against his lips. Quickly fixing your hair in the mirror one last time and grabbing your bag - quickly shoving your phone inside - you raced to the front door in your socks, knocking over a pile of books that the god had been skimming through for the past few hours.
âIâm so sorry, Khonshu!â you felt horrible, knowing that heâd been skimming over the books for hours, as you dropped onto your knees and began to pick them up one by one. The god let out a displeased sigh - at this point, the god had come to oddly respect you and care for you in his own right. But even so, he couldnât help but marvel at your clumsiness. It was unlike anything else heâd ever seen.Â
Marc was quick to arrive by your side, gently coaxing you away from the pile of books.
âItâs alright, baby, you go ahead. Iâll clean this up.âÂ
Apologizing fervently again, you planted one last kiss on Marcâs lips before hurriedly exiting the flat, the force with which you slammed the door causing the flat to shake. Shaking his head sideways in amusement, Marc quickly went about picking up the books as the god watched from above him.Â
âI sincerely do not understand how one mortal can both perceive the higher realms whilst struggling to maintain basic balance and hand-eye coordination.âÂ
Marc chuckled.
âItâs a mystery to me too.âÂ
---------------------------------------
Jake didnât worry for you nor did he find your clumsiness amusing.Â
No, seeing you trip, knock over, cut yourself accidentally or drop things made his protective side kick in, his body immediately wrapping around yours and shielding you from whatever danger was created. It was a bit much at times, causing even Marc and Steven to complain - âtheyâre London cyclists, Jake, theyâre supposed to go a bit fastâ - but Jake didnât care. He hated to see you in pain, to see any markings or discoloration on your pretty skin, so it was primal instinct to be protective around you.Â
Sometimes youâd pout when heâd seat you away from an open flame or insist on holding your hand in open streets, but he couldnât help it. He wasnât the best with words - like Steven - nor with spending quality time with you - like Marc - so his love for you spilled over in his actions. Jake was fiercely protective of you, unafraid to snap, push or get a little violent with people if they could ever hurt you. Or if they flirted with you.
As Jake eyed the menu of the small cafe nestled in the corner of the bookstore, your order memorized like the back of his hand, he missed your figure leaving his side as a certain book cover on the top shelf caught your eye. Having decided what to order, he returned his gaze to his side to ask you if youâd like the usual, before he realized that you were no longer next to him. His eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, seeing that youâd opted to climb up a ladder to reach a book on the top shelf in the historical fiction section.
His brain immediately flashed with numerous scenarios of what could go wrong - youâd fall off the ladder, hit your head on a sharp corner and get a concussion, get a paper cut from flipping through too quickly - and Jake was quick to abandon his place in line, only to be cut off by another man accidentally walking into you as you stepped off the ladder. Engrossed in whatever was written on the back cover of the book, you hadnât seen the man blocking your pathway who was now apologizing to you profusely.
âIâm terribly sorry for that.â the man kept repeating his apologies, bending down to retrieve your fallen book. Jealousy coursed through Jakeâs veins upon realizing that the man was objectively good looking, his brown hair well styled, his prim suit indicating that he probably held a well off, stable job. It was one of Jakeâs insecurities - the fact that he (or Marc or Steven for that matter, but especially him) could not offer you a ânormalâ life free of violence, doomsdays and existential threats. And the way you keep giggling and entertaining the manâs quips caused his stomach to twist and anger to bubble up in his chest, his fists clenching by his sides. Jake wasnât thinking when he stormed up to where you were standing and pulled you right against him, lacing your fingers with his.Â
âMi corazĂłn, we should leave now if we want to catch the bus in time.â his voice was sweet when speaking to you but his glare to the man was deadly, who was now shifting uncomfortably under Jakeâs stare. Your brows furrowed in confusion.
âOh, but Spencer was just about to tell me-âÂ
You werenât able to finish your sentence nor get your book back from Spencer as Jake quickly dragged you away, leaving the brunette man confused and alone with your book. Jake was silent for a few moments, simply dragging you behind him as you hurried your pace in an effort to keep up with him amongst the busy crowds of pedestrians.
âWhat was that for?â you pouted.Â
Jake stopped, dropping your hand before letting out a curt sigh.Â
âThat bastardo was flirting with you. Plus, he couldâve hurt you by knocking into you while you were stepping off a ladder.âÂ
The mix of jealousy and insecurity dripping from his voice caused your expression to soften, your delicate hands coming up to cup his face.
âItâs sweet of you to worry, Jake, but Iâm fine, see? Also, even if he was flirting, I would never be interested in him. Not when I have the most handsome, caring and amazing boyfriends by my side.âÂ
His anger slowly dissipated, your lips meeting his in a gentle manner, which he was quick to turn into a full out steamy makeout session by pinning you against the brick wall of the alleyway. You laughed against his lips at his eagerness as a small smirk spreads across his lips.
âYouâre mine, mi amor, arenât you?â he growled.
âAll yours, Jake... But I did really want to buy that book so youâll have to make it up to me.âÂ
He kisses you again, his intoxicating mix of sandalwood and fresh leather flooding your senses.
âOf course. Iâll buy you that book. And anything else youâd ever want.âÂ
âCan I open my eyes now?â you whined, the blindfold placed on your eyes having meant youâd been led in complete darkness for the past ten minutes. Based on the attire you were told to wear and the soft feeling of grass and dirt underneath your feet, you had a feeling you were in a hilly area or a park, but you had no idea why you were here or what Jake had planned for date night. Jake simply chuckled in response.
âIn a minute.âÂ
A few rustles of paper and the sound of fabric being straightened out, then he carefully took off the blindfold from your eyes, revealing the gorgeous sight in front. A hastily sprung out picnic basket laid out with white and red checkered squares, pinned to the grassy floor with a few glass candles. Two wine glasses and a bottle of wine sat in the middle. It was intimate and small, yet so beautifully done, you felt your heart squeeze in appreciation as you looked up at Jakeâs face (which was uncharacteristically shy and withdrawn in this instance).
âSorry for the... rather messy presentation. Steven and Marc helped with a few things but Iâm usually not very good with these things, so-â
âItâs perfect.â you cut him off quickly, grabbing his hands and squeezing them in reassurance. âThank you, thank you all so much. This is just⌠the best thing I couldâve asked for on our sixth month anniversary.âÂ
Jakeâs shoulders quickly relaxed, a sly smirk appearing on his face.
âOh, just wait until you see, mi vida, what we have planned for you.âÂ
As Jake sat down next to you, you popped open the wine bottle and began to pour him a glass, accidentally spilling some onto his pants.Â
âShit! Iâm so sorry-â you quickly placed down the drinks, searching for some tissues and water to help rub out the stain. But Jake simply couldnât care, choosing instead to admire you: the way your eyes glittered in the moonlight or the way the faint glow of the candles below carved your face in shadows.
âGod, Iâm just so clumsy, did we bring any tissues? Or I can run down to a nearby-â you continued to ramble, becoming silent only when Jake's hand reached out for yours, wrapping around your wrist and setting you back down on to the floor.
âItâs alright, mi amor. Just sit and enjoy this night with me, okay?âÂ
âOkay.âÂ
And as the two of you sat in silence, the object in his left pocket felt heavier than ever.
âThank goodness the wine didnât spill onto the ring.â Steven remarked.
âThough, that would have been very (Y/n)-esque to do.â Marc added.
And as he tore his gaze away from the night sky and onto you, all Jake could think about was how much he wanted to spend to spend the rest of his life with you. Even through all the falls, bruises, wine spills, forgotten items and cuts youâd rack up along the way.
a/n: sooo basically I haven't posted any fics since Aug of 2020. Whew. So posting this is pretty nervewracking for me. Sorry if this fic wasn't the best, I am a little rusty. Not sure if any of my older followers are reading this but if you stuck around, thank you!
