Just now noticing this angle of Leon during the Emily scene, facing Grace’s reaction after pulling the trigger, and the tears in his eyes did something to me.
Loved your interpretation of Chris' evolution, and fully agree with it👏 I actually really like the way he's been written in the later games as well, it makes sense and feels realistic imo.
Also, re your answer on Leon, (and this might be a weird and sensitive ask so feel free to ignore it, apologies in advance), but while it's not specifically implicated in canon previously, do you think Leon's been a victim of SA before?
I might be (and probably am) projecting, but his reaction to Gideon's advances in Re9 did give me the feeling of that. Or at the very least that he's been through similar situations often. And I've heard and seen similar comments from fellow survivors on twitter and youtube, and also seen a thread on the former say it was hinted at in a cancelled comic where he supposedly sent on some kind of honeypot mission? I'm pretty new to the Resi fandom though and unfortunately can't find the thread again now (and not sure how true that rumour was tbh). But your response (and knowledge and understanding of RE as a whole) got me curious about what your thoughts/impression is in terms of Leon's past and whether or not you think it's plausible that he is a SA survivor?

I do want to start out by saying that in canon the closest we've ever seen Leon be to SAed was the creepy ass scene with Viktor. And the way Leon freezes and stares straight ahead... that did tip something off to me. I think a lot of people chalked it up to him having been recently choked out and the fact that he's a trained agent, and while I think those were contributing factors, I don't think they are the only factors. The way Leon crashes into the table once he's free, desperately trying to grab for his gun to the point that he even turns his back on Viktor-- and mind you, Viktor wasn't down, he could've easily grabbed Leon from behind if he wanted to-- yeah I think he was panicking a little. I also find the way he says he's glad Grace got away very telling because it seems to suggest (and I guess this is a hot take) to me that Leon thought things were going to go beyond just playing with his hair and touching his neck and he was worried about what would've happened if Grace, a young woman, had been in that situation. I think sometimes people forget that Capcom, for all their bullshit and fuckery, still makes some really dark content. RE is a dark, adult franchise; its not like SA hasn't been shown/implied before.
The comic thing is interesting-- that's not something I remember. If you or anyone else ends up finding that thread, please let me know. The only RE comics I'm aware of that had Leon are the 90s WildStorm ones, and the ID ones. I know for certain it didn't happen in the ID ones, and although it's been a hot minute since I've read the 90s ones, I don't remember that nor anything that could be interpreted that way, but its possible I just forgot about that. Sometimes people will use 'comic' when they mean manga too, but of all the RE manga I know of, I don't recall anything like that there either.
But to answer your question, I don't necessarily think he is in the sense that it's not a headcanon I personally have, but if something like that ever did get revealed, I wouldn't be shocked. The US military is quite infamous for its SA coverups and other abuse scandals so its not like it'd come out of no where for Leon have experienced something like that, particularly sense he is "teased" about his appearance in-universe (being called pretty boy, Greg's comments about how Leon doesn't 'look military,' the cops in 4 asking if Leon forgot his makeup, etc).
