“I guess I’m getting there with it, I mean...I have a good idea of just who doesn’t deserve it. Like some of the bitches at my highscholl, they’re just the worst” She waved off. “You think so? I mean, it’d make sense...”

“You really are the best of them aren’t you?” Amelia chuckled, she found her view of the world rather adorable. “Why would I do that? Plus, you are a kid, that’s off limits in my books, for all kinds of crimes.”
“I try to be. I guess one of us has to be and if people are angling for me becoming the Captain, then I gotta see past prejudices, just like mom” she then shrugged “I guess some people aren’t like you, some villains wouldn’t even care I’m a kid”

“No one has friends in the Society, kid. That’s how you get yourself killed.” Amelia replied, sure she trusted some to more of a degree than others but friend was a term she would use loosely. “Family, sure but not friends. I think you’ll find it hard to find a villain that says otherwise.”
“In my opinion, that just sounds really lonely. I couldn’t imagine not having friends with those I have to spend all of my time around” she admitted, before she gave a gentle sigh to the older woman “You know, you could have killed me by now, but you haven’t....I think you’re better than you see yourself as, Amelia”

Amelia raised an eyebrow as Angel stepped back, “Oh, I mean” Amelia chuckled, “The Society, the villains, low life, whatever it is you want to call them. Was one of them for nearly 20 years, it takes time to adjust to well, not being them”
The blonde nodded slowly, yet she still kept back for the moment “Do you miss them? I mean, they must have been your friends too, right?” she wondered, figuring that Amelia had knowledge unlike no one in the Heroes Union. She probably knew all their weaknesses.

“It sounds to me like the Heroes Union is a bunch of hypocrites. Talking shit about us having no connection with each other only to go ahead and treat their kids like this”
“Us?” The blonde asked warily, backing up a little. The young trainee looked the other up and down, her expression changing to one of slight panic with the one simple word the woman had uttered.

Adria, however, had seen it, briefly. Just the image, the emotion and the name, she took a step back, “I don’t believe it.” She remarked opening her eyes, “You may not be your mother, Angel, but you certainly are her daughter.”
Angel could feel herself getting angry and grabbed her suitcases again, annoyed that Adria had found something she’d wanted to hide from everyone “Stop it, don’t say anymore” she snapped and began to head for the door again, fighting back tears as she stormed off.

Adria stood and crossed the room, “Hold still and clear up anything you don’t want Auntie Adria seeing,” though she didn’t give her much time before her hands were pressed to the sides of Angel’s head, “Permission to see what I can find?” The display of her powers that the foiled execution had presented couldn’t have knocked Angel’s Powers out. Sure it had been a lot and probably draining, but powers didn’t just leave for no reason, something had to have happened.
“Uh...Okay?” The blonde murmured in confusion as Adria held the side of her head, looking confused “You can, but I don’t think there is anything in there-” she trailed off, her eyes widening as her mind quickly flitted to how when she was angry her veins had turned purple and she’d been more powerful than ever. The alter ego she called ‘Demon’. “Oh wait wait...” she said quickly, hoping the other hadn’t seen it.

“You want to see the beach?” It hadn’t even accord to her that maybe she never really had a proper childhood. “You are burnt out. You’ve gone too hard for too long. You need a break. You need to speak up and say you need a break”
“Well yeah, but a nice one...One with real sand and blue water. Like ones you see on screensavers” The girl explained, before then nodding “Which is why I have to get out of here. You know in the current mess that people aren’t gonna be just allowed to go off on a vacation.” she sighed at the other.

“I agree with you. I never said I agreed with you running.” Amelia stated, “You are unhappy here because of what they are doing but I believe you want to be here if they weren’t like that. Am I right?”
“Well, It’s not like I have any other choice. In a couple of hours Liberty is going to drag me from my bed to train. I want to be gone by then. I wanna see the beach” she said simply. “I don’t know, I guess...I mean....It makes me feel closer to the mom I never had”

“Like you are being pushed into a mould that doesn’t fit you” Oh she knew it too well. Her parents had tired something similar. They wanted Amelia to be their vision of a perfect child but it was something Amelia could never be. All they had to do was accept that and her world, possible the world would have been so much different. “I don’t give a shit if you are a direct descendent of them. You are a kid. That’s too much for you” She snapped, her anger wasn’t directed at Angel, it was directed at Liberty and the rest of them for the weight they dropped on to a child. “And that’s not your fault. That’s their problem, not yours.”
“Exactly” she nodded, her lips pursed together that the other seemed to understand her words. The girl cleared her throat and headed to the doorway “Then if you agree with me, why are you bothered about if I stay or not?” she wondered “If I’m unhappy here, I should just be fine with leaving, you don’t even have to say anything about seeing me go. That’s their problem” she pointed out.

“I know that feeling” Amelia mumbled, the idea of being open and honest with people was still so foreign to her. Being open was how you got yourself killed in the Society. “I…can’t say that you are wrong about they but I can’t say you are right either. It’s an awful amount of weight to put on your shoulders.” She was rather surprised by the fact they had done that, she was just a kid who should be left alone to do kid things not groomed to be her mother. “You don’t have to protect all of us. Some of us are capable of protecting ourselves.”
“Just feels like I’ve been made for something” The blonde then looked at her hands again, but gave her fingers a flex, nothing happening with her powers. It was like she’d lost them completely. “I think that’s what they are expecting of me though. I got told I had blood that led back to some of the original superheroes. They call me a Titan, if that’s true...Then that’s why Liberty wants me here with my moms powers.” she then clicked her tongue “We’re all so disorganized here, we barely act like a team”

“That’s how you push people over the edge, build something around them and expect them to climb out when they know they can’t.” Amelia said softly, gazing at the ruins of the bridge. She once knew the weight of living up to expectation that had been built and failing miserably at reaching them. It was what set her on her path. It was easier to rebel and fight, doing as she pleased rather than live up to the expectation set by her parents. “Oh I knew her alright” Amelia chuckled quietly, her attention turning back to Angel. “You aren’t your mother. You aren’t. No matter the similarities you might share. You aren’t her and they have no right to expect you to be. You are her daughter not her clone. They need to see that”
“I feel like I’m drowning in a bath tub, you know like how when a spider can’t get out and just keeps slipping down” she then looked down at her hands, picking at her nails. “Well, I can’t help but feel it’s what everyone is expecting, even if no one has explicitly said it. All they see are her powers...And assume I’m her. Powers that I can’t even conjure up” she then looked down “We’re all done, I can’t protect any of you guys from whatever the Society are making.”

“Yep. Still a kid” Amelia shrugged, throwing the covers off and sitting on the edge of the bed. “I’m a hero now remember, I care, it’s apart of the job description” she joked, she was right to question her. She had no reason to care, in fact by her standards she should hate her. Her mother had nearly killed her and imprisoned her many many years ago. There was no reason to stop her daughter from running from the Union but here she was. Her eyes drifted over to the balcony, surveying if it would be a good spot or not. “Come on then. Let’s work out what’s bothering you and how to fix it since no one else seems to be able to.” she whispered, moving towards the balcony.
“Trainee hero, that’s all we still are...” The blonde reminded and then sighed, she hated the whole situation she found herself in. The girl padded outside into the cool night air, taking in the city around them- even if the wreckage of the burning bridge still loomed. “I just don’t want to do this anymore. Everyone is just expecting me to be exactly like she was, with her power, with her leadership. I know it’s what I’m being built up for. I can’t be that person that everyone is putting their chips on...” she then paused and looked back at the other. “You knew my mom, you know full well I’m nothing like her, right?”

Despite her new daily activities Amelia still didn’t sleep. She didn’t need to but that didn’t stop her from enjoying laying down in the dark enjoying the peace and quiet. Having to share a room with a bunch of trainees made things difficult, they were loud and proud and loved to gossip but once they were asleep it was peaceful. If she pretended to sleep people questioned her turn to the good side less and less as if being awake all night was evil. She heard someone slip out of their bunk but stayed still, she was interested in what they were doing. Amelia held back a smirk as she heard the soft whisper, thank god for super hearing, “Maybe you’ll get it the fourth time kid” She whispered, as Angel went to pass her. “Come on, put those back. Lets have a chat somewhere we can not wake half the union”
Angel turned when she noted Amelia and sighed almost dramatically “You know I’m 18 years old, right? I don’t actually have to stay here” she whispered to try and not wake others, her gaze glancing around to make sure that no one else was witness to the conversation. “Why are you so bothered anyway?” she wondered as she carefully set down one of her cases, only then rolling her eyes and gesturing to go out to the balcony.
Angel had tried to become more calculated with her escape attempts, having already be foiled a few times before. She knew that she was no use to the Union and that they were all hedging their bets on her being useful to them. But her powers simply didn’t work and it scared Angel so much. The girl slipped down from her top bunk in the Trainee dorm and picked up two of her suitcases, looking around to make sure that everyone had been sleeping. “Okay, third times a charm” she whispered to herself as she began to creep through the space, bags in tow.

As Angel mentioned her mother Adria’s eyebrows rose, “Honey we- I don’t want you to be your mother. Heavens no. I want you to be yourself. I want you to be happy and if that doesn’t include being in our little band, that’s fine- what do you mean your powers aren’t working?” Adria asked, realizing the statement had been more than just an untrained girl’s woes.
“But you do!” she snapped out at her, glaring at the other “You all do, you want me to be just like her and use my powers just because some idiot suggested I have pure blood and am stronger. I’m not her but I’m living in her shadow constantly!” she snapped out, even if she’d been trying to be quiet. “Exactly that, they don’t work” she stated, holding out her hands to try and focus her powers, nothing but tiny sparks of light appearing at her fingertips “So yeah, I’m useless to you all now”
