The Prophet ﷺ said,

"I know a verse, if people lived according to its meaning; it would be enough (for their salvation).

The companions asked which verse was this and He ﷺ answered:

"And whosoever have taqwa (mindful/fear) of Allah, He will appoint for him a way out," (Surah Talaq, 65:2)

Hazrat Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (May Peace Be Upon Him) as saying: Many a person with disheveled hair and covered with dust is turned away from the doors (whereas he is held in such a high esteem by Allah) that if he were to adjure(request) in the name of Allah (about anything) Allah would fulfil that.

"You would see the people often impressed by wealth, status, and reputation saying about someone, "how nice he is," "how generous he is," "how rich he is, etc, while he does not even have an atoms weight of faith in his heart. A person may be insignificant, low in status, and despised in the eyes of people, but with Alläh he holds a lofty rank."

we look at this verse and think we’re safe because we haven’t "lost hope" in His ability to forgive sins. but the reality is that there’s a twin form of despair that contradicts God being Al-Shakur/The Appreciative

you tell yourself that you believe He is the Most Merciful, but you internally refuse to accept that He cares about your efforts because of how patriotic they look to you

“God forgives people who have had great redemption arcs. me walking to the mosque is worthless and has absolutely no value. God wants people who sacrifice for Him, not people who just walk to buildings”

you start to view your own religious practice as worthless and small, having no real value against your sins. it goes from “what more can I do to improve” to "it’s all worthless anyways”

it ends with a total loss of motivation to even practice religion because you believe in His ability to forgive sins, but you haven’t genuinely accepted His Appreciation of your smallest efforts

it’s like the opposite side of a coin

you believe in His ability to erase the bad, but don’t accept His appreciation of the good. you need both

The most common word for the place of prayer in Islam is masjid — which means “place of prostration.” This is remarkable because it captures an act, rather than a structure.
