It was out on her weekly errands that the figure was watching Gamora. The Zen-Whobarian woman had chosen to make her home here on Earth. How strange, that this little planet was so important in the events that had proceeded and the events to come, the Watcher thought to himself. Yet, it was his duty to observe history as it unfolded. He stood on the roof of a tenement building, gazing down the extraterrestrial warrior as she perused the window of a little bodega.
Gamora was quickly getting her errands done, it was a nice day and she wanted to enjoy it as much as she could without anything else to do. She looked into the window of the bodega, wondering if she should go in or not, thinking about how much food she had left in her refrigerator and her cupboards. As she was looking she could not help but feel as if she was being watched, it certainly was not unusual that someone would stare. She waited a minute or so, and the feeling did not go away, she turned around slowly, looking across the street. No one had stopped, everyone seemed to be minding their own business, she looked again and this time she looked up. There was someone on the rooftop. Gamora crossed the street wondering just who this person was who was so intent on staring at her.
i-do-not-act:
âBecause I must,â the Watcher stated. âI observe history as it unfolds.â His posture was rigid and unmoving. Uatuâs large eyes looked like a swirl of stars and milky white nebulas, staring off a million miles even as they looked at Gamora.Â
Her eyes rolled before she looked down at the street below and everyone passing by. âWho sent you?â It seemed odd to her that he would be sent here to observe, if he was stating his true reasons. She wondered what had alerted something to what had happened here and what could possibly happen. âWhy did you decide to observe me instead of some other person?â
Uatu looked as if he was confused by the question. âNo one... sent me. As I already explained, it is the task of a Watcher to observe.â It seemed that this mortal was having trouble grasping the simple concept of Watchers and their mission. âI have watched many others. Temujin. Julius Caesar. Marie Curie. Jean Grey. Stephen Strange. You, Gamora of the Zen-Whoberis, are just part of a long line of those I have observed.âÂ
