crusadc:
Ā Ā Ā Ā heās usually the bearer of bad news, and for some reason heās looking down at jonathan and holding back a moments laugh. So, he just presses his mouth in a line, Ā ā Ā i dare not give you the actual chance of survival, but for the sake of your sanity, we will say itās about fifty-fifty. Ā ā
Jonathanās lips pursed together for a moment at Ardethās words. Fifty-fifty? He shrugged. āBetter than the odds in a game of cards, and Iāve been known to win a round or two,ā he boasted, masking his unease concerning the situation.Ā āIād say thatās a decent chance.ā

Leonard felt his throat start to choke up and tears start to form, but he dared not let them fall. Ā He was a Lord, damn it, a strong, loyal nobleman whoād served his country and then some. Ā Not some bawling orphan on the side of the road, too young to hold up his britches. Ā So instead, he scratched his nose and looked around a little bit. Ā āIās a right shame we couldnāt save his. Ā The war doesnāt end when the guns stop shootinā or when people sign treaties. Ā It justā¦doesnāt end.ā
Jonathanās eyes dimmed, and he nodded. If only there was some way they could have prevented Nigelās death. For not the first time, the Englishman wished he could bring people back from the dead. Nigel, his own parents...all wonderful people and gone too soon.
āIt doesnāt,ā he agreed, eyes cast downward. āSoldiers go back home, but never completely and not always all of them.ā He thought of the man from his company whom had lost a leg, and swallowed. āNot all of them.ā
I can't believe that itās when Iām over on my Jonathan blog and working on drafts that Holden decides to reemerge only to go Dad Mode on Anon.
I'm typically over on my multi blog nowadays, so feel free to IM me over there.
āIād ask what youāre doing here, but I can kinda guess.ā There was a brief pause before he spoke again. āso, what did you do?ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ā Ā you know there is no protection against these creatures. That golden amulet you hold dearly isnāt going to do you any good against the threat of what is out there. Ā ā
"Perhaps not, but itāll at least be worth something, right?ā Jonathan swiped a thumb across its golden surface. āGiven we survive, I mean.ā He swallowed.
Plotting Call
Like this if you want to plot something, and Iāll talk to you on IM
I'm considering moving Jonathan to my new multimuse blog, but not sure if I should. On one hand, itād be easier to lessen the amount of blogs I have, and Iād have more than three muses on that blog. Plus, the Mummy RP fandom isnāt all that active, so Iād have other muses to work while waiting. However, itās also nice to have blogs solely for one muse.
Respects and New Bonds || Ā Leonard and Johnathan

Great, introduction made. Ā Now what?Ā It had been so long since Leonard had met anyone new. Ā The last person was probably the scullery maidās husband, and that wasnāt really someone he was going to be on daily conversational terms with. Ā This Carnahan fellow would be, at least for a little while. Ā āI, I served with Nigel for a little while. Ā He always had a joke that was just on the indecent side of conversational, always made things a wee bit brighter.ā
Jonathan noticed the other manās brief hesitation before speaking again. Ah, this oneās not much for conversation-not surprising given the circumstances. He gave Leonard his undivided attention. Listening to the man share his connection with Nigel brought a soft smile to Jonathanās face.
āThat was Nigel all right. I didnāt get called into service until the last year of the war, and Nigel was in my assigned company. He made the transition easier. Saved my life once, too.ā
I was looking at the script for the Mummy (still need to read the whole thing), and found this. Trouble just kind of follows Jonathan, guys.
okay, the exchange after a disastrous stag night would definitely be something like this @liifegambler

It was always sad to hear of the passing of a good man, and Nigel McKentish had been just that. Ā A brave man, a true soldier, an honorable Scot and a strangely good flautist. Ā That was what Leonard remembered about the man, anyway, that and the way heād saved so many by patching them up, even without being an actual medical man. Ā There was no way he wouldnāt pay his final respects to a man so brave and snatched from life so soon.
So Leonard went. Ā Frances had stayed behind, knowing this was something her husband had to do on his own, regardless of the potential shock involved, and anyway, Maggie was nearing her first birthday. Ā Better the two ladies of the house stay at Fairbairn Hall while Leonard said a goodbye.
There were people he knew there, at the service, as well as people he didnāt. Ā One such man seemed to be moving in his direction now, as the solemnity of the situation demanded only quiet speech. Ā āLeonard Fairbairn,ā he offered, omitting his title for now, extending a hand as he got ahead of the whole socialization thing.
It took little effort to convince his sister he was off to visit an old schoolmate in Scotland and congratulate him on his upcoming nuptials. It was a lie simple enough to explain away. Jonathan could easily list off five reasons to end an engagement. No, a cover story hadnāt posed any difficulties in invention or implementation. The War had damaged enough, and he wouldnāt have Evelyn feel its impact if he could help it.
He arrived in town the evening before the funeral. Sleep hadnāt come easy that night, but he refrained from getting a drink down at the pub near his inn. Drinking could come after. Nigel deserved better than him showing up hungover.
At the funeral, Jonathan spent some time trading small talk with the familiar faces, but excused himself once the subject turned to what happened upon the return to civilian life. He found himself walking toward a man off to the side of everyone else.
āJonathan Carnahan,ā he returned, shaking Leonardās hand.
jonathan carnahan is one of the best written slytherins ever though like he believes in self-preservation and he takes what he can whilst giving the bare minimum back and he sort of runs around confused by everything going on around him but he just sort of rolls with it and he manages to get out of situations by manipulating the people involved and slipping through the cracks
but like the key thing about his character is that heās still a good guy and he still loves his family and protects his friends and heās a bit useless but thatās okay because heās also really clever and sneaky and people underestimate him heās so great
