When Virgil got home, Patton took one look at him and asked, "Long day?"

Virgil nodded, plopping down onto the couch. "It wasn't particularly bad, just really exhausting."

Patton hummed sympathetically. "Yeah, you look en-tire-ly worn out." Virgil cracked a smile, and Patton continued. "If you wanna go take a nap, I'll wake you up when dinner's ready."

"Hang on, it's my turn to make dinner today."

"Not anymore, it isn't."

Virgil opened his mouth, but Patton's face shifted to a familiar determined expression, and Virgil dropped his protests. "Thanks, Pat. I'll take your turn tomorrow, okay?" he said. Patton made a "we'll see" noise. Virgil's eyes narrowed, then closed as he yawned.

i cant imagine being janus. like your function and purpose is so closely tied to self-preservation and keeping the most important person in your world alive, and you so infrequently get to Use this purpose. youd burn the world down for this guy, you'd do ANYTHING for him. and not only do you Not get to do that, but also he doesnt trust you. hes starting to come around but hes spent his whole life afraid of you, hating you.

youd burn the world down for him, you never get to. you just sit in the dark corner of his mind, watching, trying to help. saying "if i could. i WOULD" you want nothing except his happiness and survival, and yet still, parts of him hate you.
