It was the first ball to be hosted by the newly married royal couple. One they eagerly looked forward to since the wedding. Up in their bedroom, Princess Peach was deciding what to wear for the evening. Despite having gone through these a hundred times, she couldnāt help but still feel nervous. She wanted to look her best, and wanted everyone to like her new husband, too. After finding one she deemed satisfactory, she sat at her vanity and started to apply her makeup. At that moment, her prince consort, Mario, came through the door, asking if she was ready yet. Having just started brushing her long, golden hair, Peach apologized profusely, knowing everyone was waiting for them downstairs in the ballroom. Once finished, she takes one last look in the mirror and adjusts her crown. Taking a deep breath, she turns to her husband and asks āDo I look alright?ā With a loving smile, Mario replies, āYes, you look wonderful tonight.ā
With a trumpeting fanfare, and an announcement, the Mushroom Kingdomās future King and Queen arrived in the ballroom. Arm in arm, they descended the stairs and into the crowd of guests. Everyoneās eyes fell onto the royal couple; their Princess had grown so much, from a young girl to a beautiful woman, ready to sit on the same throne her late mother had. Peach felt the eyes upon them, and started to get a little uneasy. She wondered how Mario was feeling, but he seemed to be doing well. He was smiling, greeting, waving; like he was catching up with old friends. Peach could tell it was starting to get a little much for him, and gently guided him away from the crowd and to the center of the ballroom. As they readied for their first dance of the evening, she asked, āDo you feel alright?ā Mario looked into his wifeās eyes, filled with love and concern, smiled, and said, āYes, I feel wonderful tonight.ā
After a long evening, the ball finally came to an end. As the last of the guests left, the exhausted couple decided to retire to their room for the night. They freshened up and got ready for bed. As Peach snuggled in the bed, Mario turned out the lights, and climbed in with her. He hugged his wife close and kissed her forehead, happy to finally have her right by his side. She smiled and returned the hug, feeling so proud of her husband. Mario placed his hand on Peachās cheek and stared into her star-filled eyes. As they started to fall asleep, he kissed her good night, and whispered āYou were wonderful tonight.ā
This piece was inspired by the song āWonderful Tonightā by Eric Clapton. After hearing this song, I thought it fit Mario and Peach so well!
