This man right here is the most underrated Disney Character in the new Disney moves, and here is a lil’ story why I firmly believe this:
I have several points to make, so I’ll start with how he and his Rosalyn (Queen of Corona) rule the Kingdom. If we skip forward in the movie, when Rapunzel and Eugene arrive at the Kingdom, everybody is happy and pleasant with each other, meaning that even after everything this man has gone through, he is still a good man and loves his Kingdom enough to rule.
Now, lets go back to the beginning of the movie, when his wife was ill. He loved her so much, and was so terrified to lose her. You could see his heart breaking when you looked at his eyes when he was standing beside his wife when she was ill. So, he called the guards on a search party to look for something - anything - that could save her life, even if it was of legend. She was running out of time. I bet it took months to even find the magic flower, meaning he had to watch his wife and unborn child suffer in their illness for so long, while also having a Kingdom to rule. The love of his life was dying, but he couldn’t be there for her, because he had the people of Corona to watch over, too, and he couldn’t very well just abandon them!
Then, after such a long time of pain and almost giving up, they find the flower, the only thing that could save the queen.
The queen is finally healed, and so is his daughter. Finally, they are both safe, and the King is now happy. The Queen and his daughter is all he has, and finally, after months, they are safe, after being in danger of their lives for so long, and he can be a good King, again.
But then, one of the two people he loved most in the world was taken from him, again. After finally having his wife healed after a long illness, he is now brought back to being devastated and in grief. He calls yet another search - probably searching with them, as well - but can never find her. Someone he loves more then himself is gone.
After maybe seven or more years, he gives up in the search, but will believe in all his heart that his child isn’t dead.
This Man Can Never Be Happy
First his wife, and then his daughter. The two people in the world that he has.
He and his wife have the Lantern Ceremony every year to honor someone that everyone but he and his wife believe to me dead, but he just can’t believe she’s gone. He has to believe she’s alive or else he’ll break down.
And after eighteen years, it still hurts.
He still thinks about her and misses his daughter everyday. He is still heart broken and depressed as he was when she first disappeared. He had to rule a Kingdom, and he still managed to keep his people happy.
But then, after eighteen years of pain and wishing, finally she returns. A wonderful full grown who he loves and has loved more then himself for so long, even when she wasn’t with him. Yes, finally Rapunzel did have a real family, but
This man finally had a family after almost nineteen years full of extreme pain. But now, he is finally living. His dream came true. He had probably been dreaming of a family his whole life, and after believing for so long it would never come true, it really did.
This man is amazing, and his story says a billion words, even though his character never says a thing.
