You can do whatever you put your mind to, Dory.

After seeing the absolute magnificent masterpiece that was this ‘Hoppers’ concept art by Daniel Chong, I HAD to do a Finding Nemo rendition!!!

FINDING DORY 2016 — dir. Andrew Stanton

[ start image description: A digital illustration of Dory from Finding Nemo and Finding Dory as a human. She's drawn as a tall thin Black Filipino woman with short curly black hair and a freckled complexion. She wears a pair of pink headphones, and is attired in a terno dress with bright blue butterfly sleeves, a navy blue bodice, and bright blue skirt; she also wears elbow-length yellow fingerless gloves.
Dory stands in profile against a pink, purple, and blue night sky, herself framed by the arc of a crescent moon. In her hands, she cups a floating blue tang, whom she eyes adoringly. She drifts waist-deep in water stylized to resemble stained glass, which reflects the colors of the sky. From her back, a cloud-like angel wing curls. /end image description ]
With this piece, I wanted to place an emphasis on lighting—something I never really made an effort to consciously incorporate into my art until @creatingblackcharacters inspired me to try! In doing so, I ended up discovering a whole new dimension to my work, finally coming to understand characters’ color schemes in relation to the context of their environment, and considering both in tandem with each other.
I want to wish the happiest of birthdays to Ice, an incredible artist and writer!! The love and passion you’ve put into @creatingblackcharacters always shines through, and all the awesome entries to the Melanin Beam Challenge are a testament to that!!! Thank you so much for running this blog, and hosting this incredible event! I hope that you have a wonderful and restful break 💖✨
