I know that the upside down being relatively safe this season is like a major criticism that lots of people take issue with and I get it, I do

however, i also love the idea that the assault on vecna in season 4 weakened him and the hive mind enough that his big ol’ army of demo-creatures was completely decimated

I like the idea that Nancy tearing him apart with a shotgun was enough that he had to retreat to another dimension to lick his wounds. I like the idea that there would have been a full-on assault on Hawkins as soon as the gates opened, but Nancy and El and Robin and Steve stopped it, thus buying themselves enough time for everyone to reunite and El to grow stronger and all of them to learn what they needed to learn about the upside down and the abyss. I like the idea of everyone looking around at the end of season 4, grief-stricken and terrified, never knowing that despite everything, they have already saved the world from a much worse fate

The Dustin and Lucas scene was cute but I stand on the fact that there shouldve been a part where it was Robin that fell while the Mind Flayer was chasing them and Steve should’ve tried to save her but clearly been too slow/he was too far away, and then Nancy comes out of nowhere and saves her just in the nick of time.

That would’ve been the perfect ending to Nancy’s arc with Barb. Nancy saving Steve’s best friend when he couldn’t. Her saving her own best friend when, with Barb, she was too distracted by Steve to save her.
