What do queer Muslim youth care about now? We are content in how we live and practice and we've moved on from defending our side to living our truth.

What do we as a demographic care about, now?

I'll go first:

-To grow into adulthood with financial security.

-Financial security to maintain myself and a family.

-Means of building a sustainable business.

-A cleaner environment.

-Protections agaisnt SA

-Protections agasint discrimination in the workplace/business.

-Personal transformation

and this is just a few of what I want better for myself.

Just like how the wider Muslim world moved past racist/colorist interpretations of the Quran...we will move past misogynistic, sexist and homophobic interpretations of the Quran.

In response to the ongoing collective thought that Prophet Lut would offer his daughters hand in marriage to a mob of intoxicated s*xually v*olent males:

I respectfully disagree when it is said that Lut was offering his daughters to marry the mob of wildly intoxicated males. Because based on other verses, the violent males of Lut's people were not interested in being pure (Quran 7:82). Lut knows this and so he said his guests were his daughters who are pure to them, which have them leave (Quran 15:72). Moreover, to say that a prophet would marry his daughters to violent males is antithetical to what is explicitly forbidden in marriage (Quran 33:30). This verse directly talks to the wives of Prophet Muhammad and note that the "unseemly conduct" (Abdullah Yusuf Ali) is translated from the word "fahishatin". The word fahishatin is used to describe all sorts of s*xual v*olence - inc*st (Quran 4:22), a*ultery (Quran 17:32), and what the people of Lut did (Quran 7:80). Lastly, Quran 7:81 has a specific word "bal" which comes after the phrase "for ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women" (Abdullah Yusuf Ali). "bal" means Nay, Rather, on the contrary etc. Which reads like this in modern in English, "You prefer to have sex with men other than women? On the contrary, you are crossing boundaries." It is important to take heed to any words that is not stated in the Quran in Arabic but is used in English translations which reveals the biases of the authors. Often, translators put in parathensis phrases or words that they say help the English translation but really just takes away what is said in the original text.
