Embrodying a die hard MUSIC dream, Jhay Scratch has pulled himself by the bootsinging as a bystander into a frontrunner in GH Music. Ironically, Scratch’s name has nothing to do with his music game. He was christened Lil Scratch for breaking ankles on the football pitch . These days, all he does is break beats on the mic and the consoles. Scratch is born to Rebecca Mensah to Peter Simpson and Priscilla Mensah Simpson, a chemical graphics/set designer respectively. He heeded his call to music while a student at the Aggrey Road Junior High School. He formed his own set, “TMG,” and made baby steps to a legit career singing and rapping over beats of Hi Life, Hip Hips majors like Nas, Ja Rule etc. January 2014 marked his coming of age. He broke from TMG and teamed up with fellow rapper QvnBerly….. to form the Hiplife duo “FRC”. The turning point in his career came when he met Mr Kennedy Garr who advised them to switch to Hip Hop beats. Jazzed by the in-form hi life trend at the time, Scratch stuck to his stance. Infected by New Rich’s production skills, he won the battle of wills with his mother over her PC which became his first production station. He started to record himself and friends: Rex Russell , Layana Priest and Major Kay (BEAT MURDERS) Scratch was stung into action by the Skillions Demotapes and forged ahead with coaching from Washington. With the game getting thicker, Scratch sought to standout of the horde. The schemed a pidgin tract to chip some attention his way. “MONEY TALK” proved his trump card and he got him a deal with New Rich Records. The single caused a stir on the Hip Hop scene and attracted the legendary Jesse Blinks to appear on the New Track ODO with Bhra Vysko on it. With his reputation build and his notoriety on the rise, Scratch put himself to the test. He dropped two singles off his solo mixtape. His confirmation came in two days. The single –“School” – copped 70 000 downloads and later the Your Love ft Major Kay Mixtape topped 10,000 downloads. Scratch has hogged the airwaves for a minute, producing hits like Breathe by QvnBerly featuring Bhra Vysko and Victor featuring Eminence . Jay Scratch is A Talented Musician, Rapper, Singer and a Pulse racing performer. You may know him from his poplar club bangers,“Akweley”, “BossChick”, “MONEY DEY TALK” and “Your Love”. His Brand ‘Jay Scratch Again’ has become a Ghanaian household term and his music has made him a face of Ghana’s music industry in just a short period of one year. He has gained a fast reputation for his crazy club bangers and spectacular sound. Jay Scratch has had several shows and club performances and is constantly in high demand since the release of his album became Something Else on the 1st of June 2017, not excluding SOLD OUT local performances According to the Notorious JAY SCRATCH’s iconic “MONEY TALK” lyric, there were only two ways for a kid from the hood to get paid: “Either you’re slingin’ crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot.” The irony is that as Jay Scratch. was laying this somewhat fatalistic verse down, he was in the midst of popularizing a third path to the paper—becoming a rap star. Scratch’s meditations on money are legendary and also part of a larger tradition in hip-hop. Since its inception, rap has always had money on its collective mind. The accumulation of wealth and aspirational living are central themes in rap because, of course, it’s the music of America’s marginalized communities. When it comes to money, those who don’t have it will dream about it. And those who do have it will brag about it—especially if they just got it.
