Performance Injuries

I’ve been wanting to make this post for a while now. I cannot stress how important it is to listen to your body. If you feel pain, stop. Even if it’s a small thing, stop. I’ve been dealing with a performance injury for almost four months now. I thought practicing was too important and kept going. I still cannot fully play my instrument because of the pain.

Talk to you teacher about concerns. Whether or not your holding the instrument correctly, if you’re finding tension somewhere. Also check out the Alexander Technique. It is a different way at looking at posture. Even if you don’t have pain, it’s always good to learn about the body and how it works.

In the beginning: Cute solos. Audience is going "wow" and everybody is happy and perky. Can do everything in the world. Tone is amazing.

In the end: The flutist and clarinetist stabbed themselves with their instruments. The audience is rioting. The conductor was poisoned my a viola. The snare drummer disappeared through the back door and demolished the concert hall. The world is destroyed.
