He is known for his extensive body of work featuring adorable fad and stuffs. The iconic things continue to grace numbers of offices, homes, and schools throughout Roxas City and the rest of Panay.
The man behind these things, Mark Renier Arce-Catahay also known as MR, has devoted some time of his career to internet café and digital souvenir services. He shares: “It gave me opportunities to know a lot of people with the same goals and dreams as mine.”
“I also learned a lot of business management and strategies from people who had been in the business for so long. The knowledge that I have learned from this business experience is way too better than what I should have learned as an employee.”
Studied and graduated from St. Paul University-Iloilo (SPUI), MR was inspired in information technology and developed his signature style of creating yet simple visually arresting stuffs.
He has a business called Plugged. It is an Internet café and specializes in digital souvenir services. Digital souvenirs are items that were made through computers, machines and printers. He specializes in personalizing a wide range of products which includes key chains, button pins, tumblers, mugs, bag tags, digital shirt printing, silk screen shirt printing, vinyl shirt printing, mouse pads, fans, notepads, stickers, vinyl car stickers, tote bags, non-woven bags, calling cards, wall clocks, ball pens, lanyards, CD Printing, digital puzzle printing, ref magnets, metal photos, bottle openers, bookmarks, digital plate printing, pillow case, digital slippers printing, digital print on canvas, tarpaulin printing, digital umbrella printing, name plates, coasters, calendars, and campaign materials.
In November 3, 2007, Plugged opened thru the efforts of MR’s mother, Ruth Catahay. It is located in Gaisano Marketplace. It started as the best and leading internet café in Roxas City. It was also the first and only gaming station that offered PlayStation 3 games.
In early 2008, MR’s uncle, Rodolfo Arce, presented the basics of the business. He has been a businessman for so many years already. He convinced MR to sell key chains and tumblers to birthday parties, debuts, weddings and all possible events. And so MR did what his uncle advised him.
After some time, MR was shocked realizing that he was already supplying giveaways to major banks, universities, and even government offices. Since he was only in college, it gave him a lot of time to do research studies about putting up a souvenir shop in Roxas City.
He was overwhelmed by its outcome. He saw its potentials and possible growth. And so he thought that he has to be serious and create realistic plans about it.
But weeks before he graduated, he received so many job offers from IT companies in Iloilo, Makati, and even Japan. It was quite hard for him but he has to reject all the offers for him to spend his summer focusing on the business that I had been planning.
It was the summer of 2011 when he personally visited suppliers to create good business relations for long term business growth. On June 2011, after MR graduated from college, Plugged expanded its services to offer digital souvenir services.
At first, it was a challenge for him to manage because he didn’t take a business course. All I had were determination, passion, and business thoughts from books. But he gained a lot of courage and confidence to sacrifice employment and go into business at a very young age because I’m very aware all the consequences and successes of going into this kind of path.
“My course helped me a lot since BSIT is a mix of computer literacy and business management. It studies more on how to use technology to help make business processes go easier,” says MR.
Today, Plugged is offering digital souvenirs. But he already captured large corporate market from major banks, schools, restaurants, government offices, private businesses and organizations not only here in Roxas but also in Kalibo, Iloilo, Passi and Manila.
In the span of six months, its product line has been expanding and expanding. Hewill continue to expand his products and services to serve his clients better and to offer the best quality digital souvenir items.
The business mission is to offer a wide range of modern, computerized and top-quality souvenir products that will cater from personal occasions to corporate giveaways. The business vision is to offer the people of Panay the best digital souvenirs that the latest technology can offer.
If things will go easily, he is planning to enter another business industry in Roxas City. With all the plans and goals, he can perceive that 2012-2015 will be very promising years for his business.
